I hear a huge difference. To me there really is no comparison. The YDP sounds excellent while the CLP sounds friggen phenomenal. The CLP has a lush full rich resonance (it’s difficult to describe sound lol) that just immediately makes me say “wow!” It’s just so pleasing to the ears. The electric piano sound on the CLP is just mind blowing, nevermind the grand piano sounds. I was looking at the YDP, but I think I’ll spend some extra money and buy the CLP. The superior sound will motivate me to play more besides this is something that I will own for a long time. Great comparison thanks!

Absolutely same in the better sound and more authentic feel motivating to play more. I wanna upgrade from my alesis recital semi weighted I got for Christmas in 2019. The semi weighted keys and absolute opposite of authenticity really makes me not wanna play on it anymore, especially considering I couldn’t even transfer over and play on an acoustic upright properly because of the weight difference in the keys. It just builds up bad muscle memory on your touch if you wanna go play on a real piano or one that imitates one.

The CLP is a bit better, more ambient sound, less direct, but I don't think there's a double price difference. I would go to CLP-745 in this price range, more features and much better speakers than 735. The YDP-165 is fantastic for the price.

The 165 is awesome. Even though Ted is saying the CLPs CFX sample is better, that is just his opinion. Even in the video I feel the 165 sample sounds better than the CLP.

Big difference in the sound. I started off looking at the YDP-165 except that my local store only carries CLP so I liked the CLP-735 but decided that an upgrade to CLP-745 was worth considering. Then I watched your video comparing the CLP-745 to CLP-785. There are good deals so it was affordable and a great piano. The mellow grand even compares to my U3 if you have imagination.

I've taken a lot away from your reviews. Now, if I may ask...
How does the feel and action of the keys for the Arius YDP 165 or S55 compare to the P71 or P45?
I have the P71 created for Amazon that I purchased in 2019.
My only concern to stepping into the YDP 165 or S55 is that the feel of the keyboard will be the same or only slightly different than the piano I already have.
Do you have any comment for us?

There is something about amplifier rated power and included power supply that needs to be understood: just because an amplifier is rated, let's say 30 watts per channel (as in the case of the CLP-735, for a total of 60 watts of amplifier rated output) doesn't mean the digital piano will actually achieve that value, even at maximum volume. First of all, the power supply that Yamaha provides for the CLP-735 is the PA-300C, which produces 45 watts. The included power supply will not be capable of delivering the amplifiers what they can achieve. In addition, turning the volume all the way up is not enough to guarantee the amplifiers are pushing a maximum wattage (even if the power supply could deliver all the power needed). That also depends on other factors that are not specified in Yamaha's manual. For example, is that for a 4 ohm load or 8 ohm load? If that specification is for a 4 ohm load, but the included speakers are 8 ohms, then the amplifiers will deliver about half the power. In addition, Yamaha specifies that the CLP-573 consumers only 18 watts (which is likely to be the upper limit of consumption on certain voices, such as bass, with the volume all the way up. It is unlikely that a piano voice will consume that much power).
The Yamaha YDP-165 comes with the same power supply (PA-300C) than the CLP-735 and Yamaha states it consumes only 13 watts. So, 18-13=5 watts of difference in power consumption is not going to make one instrument much louder than the other, assuming both have the same speaker sensitivity (the YDP-165 has a 12cm speaker vs the CLP-735 has a 16cm speaker). The larger speaker will probably create a more rounded sound, particularly at lower frequencies. But neither piano has a proper speaker box anyway. The main point I want to make is this: amplifier rated output is mainly irrelevant in practice. Let me make an extreme example: I have played the Yamaha N3X, which has, if I remember correctly, 545 watts total (it has 15 amplifiers). If you turn the volume of the N3X all the way up, it doesn't sound crazy loud. In fact, I would say it sounds about the same volume of the CLP795GP, which probably sounds about the same volume of the YDP184. I have played all these pianos, and I don't think there was a major difference in volume among them. If this topic becomes interesting, I can take a decibel meter and measure exactly how loud each piano gets.

Thanks! I currently have a Yamaha CLP-545 (6 years old) that has a very heavy action (harder to push down to activate the sound) and am looking for something with a lighter touch. A friend has a Roland RD2000 and it is definitely a lighter action. Does Kawai lighter touch than the CLP-545? I visited your Austin store (enjoyed the time with your guys) a month back, but they only had a DG, and lots of acoustic pianos. Have you received any CA or CN units in Austin?
