- It's been a SUPER fun month here on the channel where I have shared only real behind-the-scenes wedding footage! Today's video is all about the bride and groom portrait time. I share what lenses I use, how I pose, and what my thought process was behind these decisions. Of course, I also include some of the final images.

i know I'm kinda randomly asking but does anybody know of a good place to stream new tv shows online ?
From my experience the Bride and Groom react way way better when they see photos that they were not aware of. The ones that they posed for they said it's cute but the ones they were not aware off they went mental and their reaction is priceless.
Aw that’s great!! I love those in between moments
Ohhh!! Thank you sooo much for uploading another new video over here on TH-cam! I just can't afford supporting all the Patreon creators I would love to, but I can totally do so over here, by watching everyone's new uploaded content! For those of us just barely making enough to pay our bills at the moment, this is huge!! THANK YOU!!
Hi emily!! Yeah I totally get that! I don't to Patreon for that reason!
@@Joymichelle - THANK YOU SO MUCH! Where's the love button? Seriously.
Thank you so much for providing this video. It's very helpful to see the settings so that I can mentally grasp the right way to set my camera up in different scenarios. Beautiful shots, my favorite was the one when they were walking on the dock with the green foliage.
Hi Yolanda! I'm the same way. Sometimes I just need to see the settings to understand what was going on with the lighting. :) Glad this was helpful!
Yes yes yes!! This is amazing and exactly what I wanted to see!! Thank you soo much for showing so much Joy! It feels like I’m there at the wedding! Thank youuuu!
You’re welcome!! You guys are my virtual team members 🙌🏼
Joy Michelle Photography aww thank you! I wish I could be on your actual team! 🙌🏻
Love all your BTS series!! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you!
Hey Joy Michelle! ...nobody teaches this and it's soooo frustrating to me. I know my way around a camera pretty well, but some of these more technical types of tricks and effects are things I still have yet to conquer and really figure out. THANK YOU soooo much for doing this for us!! I would sure give the world for you to also do a couple of videos teaching us how to photograph sparkler exits, light trails with wedding reception dance photos, how to photograph those cigar smoke photos of the guys on wedding day, and how to get that hair spray shot when the bride is getting ready. I'd also love to learn how to do some of those trick photos that so many of you do on wedding days - the reflection, shooting through things, bokeh lights, ring shots with an extra fun flair, etc. A super fun photographer that does a lot of this stuff is Jason Martin with Concept Photography. This guy has some super cool photography tricks and effects and I still have yet to figure out how he does a lot of them.
Hey Emily! Thanks for your comment! I do have a sparkler exit demo tutorial on my channel and a few on rings too 🙌🏼✨
@@Joymichelle - AH! I missed it. LOL! I'll look again. Meanwhile, I still need help with the other concepts I mentioned! HA! Pretty please!
Fantastic video...
Lovely use of the 70-200... will have to use a lot more ..
Thank you!! Killer on the arms but worth it
Joy Michelle Photography Thats the downfall indeed... you have to pick your moments 😀😀
Exactly!!
This was incredible! I would love to hear you actually communicating and posing the bride and groom for any future BTS!
Thanks, Claudia! I'll definitely see what I can do about using a mic next time
That veil shot at the end thoooo! Awesome video as always, Joy!
Thank you! It took a bit of convincing from the VERY tall groom 😂😂😂
Gorgeous photos and such a cute couple.
Aren’t they?!? They looked like models
@@Joymichelle they really did!
Thank you! Your work is stunning
Thank you Nina!
Great content. Love your videos and how you write down all the settings of every shot.
Thanks! I’m glad you found this helpful!!
This is so inspiring and will definitely watch this video before each wedding :) Amazing job Joy!!
Yay!! So glad you liked it! Thanks for commenting :) o
Nice. .all photography. .
Thank you for sharing, yr an amazing photographer and you really help a lot of us other semi professional photographers out by sharing yr skills.
You're welcome!!
I LOVE YOUR CAMERA'S
Not missing any of your uploads. Learning a lot from you!
🙌🏼 yay thanks!! :)
May I recommend if you could make a (short) video of what attire do you go for when shooting for the grand day of a client’s wedding?
Such a good idea! Thanks!!
Love you channel. You cannot post too many of these types of videos...please keep them coming.
Thank you!! Lots more awesome content coming in 2020!
Thanks Joy! Another great video!
You’re welcome!!
I'm shooting my second wedding tomorrow and your video was so helpful thank you.
So glad to hear that, Victoria! Where is your wedding? Good luck!! Let me know how it goes
Thank you. The wedding is in London.
I am learning so much from this videos Joy, I have an upcoming wedding to photograph and as I am new at this I really want to learn as much as I can. Thanks for sharing valuable information
So glad to hear it!! Yay! Where is your upcoming wedding??
@@Joymichelle is in march 🙊👏🏻
Love your slings. I have just been using the basic straps and keeping my second in my bag for fear of banging it on a table/chair. Have you ever found a more "elegant" solution for carrying dual body or is the swinging secondary just a calculated risk of being able to get every shot that pops up out of nowhere?
Great job. Nikon is going to make me come back just for that 58mm. Dang you Joy!!!
hahahahh that's how they get cha!!
Thanks again for a great video and again great set ups and explanations! I always look forward to them and they are just the right length and enough information to utilize in a real life settings!
So glad to hear it!
I just love these videos! Definitely my favorite series on your channel!!
Thanks so much!! So glad you love them
I really love your photography
Thanks so much
Anytime
Where are you from??

Nice
You are an amazing piece of energy Michelle
😘
Hah thanks!
i really love your videos and photos. they are amazing! thank you for sharing them.
the only thing i don‘t like that much is that you are leaving so much space above the head on some portraits 7:34
but that‘s just my opinion
keep going!
Thanks for watching :)
Joy this is fabulous content!! I am loving these videos! gorgeous wedding.
Thank you, Eugenia
Thanks for sharing. Which camera bodies are you using?
Nikon d4 and d610 www.amazon.com/shop/joymichellephotography
Love your wedding day style! Gorgeous wedding, I love their venue! The greenery is beautiful 😍
Thank you!! Yes this is one of my favorite venues!!
Hey Joy, this was great to watch in action! On manual mode in the camera, do you choose your own ISO settings? Or do you have it on auto ISO? From going from a dark subject with a light background and turning around and shooting the opposite. Like you did going beside the couple in the garden for a shot and then going behind the groom shots as an example. I choose my own ISO settings all the time but I recently tried the auto ISO at a wedding, and it worked really well.
I choose my own ISO! :) thanks for watching!!
I do Thank and much Appreciated for your efforts making this Video so helpful.
Beautiful shots Joy!
Thank you!!
Hi Joy! Brilliant video and wedding work. But, why do you use D5? It's big, heavy and bulky unit, as well as your objects do not moving too fast. Thanks 🤔
I like the d4 for its color rendering and iso capabilities.
@@Joymichelle Joy, I just worried about the weight that you have to carry all day + two ✌️ cameras?! I am still looking for a new body. I photograph portraiture and landscape mostly, what would you recommend D750 or D4, or D810, or stay with my D610? D610 is a good camera, but I don't like focusing system and ISO capabilities, as you mentioned. We are friends on Facebook, we chat there if you like :-) 👍 Thank you for your advice)
Hi joy, I’m thinking of starting my own wedding photography business, I only been into photography for a couple of years, primarily landscapes. I love your tutorials & your look that you achieve. Thanks for supplying some guidance & inspiration! 😀👍🥰
Super excited for you! Are you in my FB group?? I'm going to be doing an exclusive training inside the group all about how to start a profitable photography business from the ground up.
Joy Michelle Photography...Yes Joy, I’ve joined your Facebook group & am super excited for what I learn & what the future holds. Thanks once again 🙏👍😀
Awesome video, as always! Favorite location was the garden- greenery is the best! Hurry up springggg!!!!
Man I miss spring and summer so much and this video reminded me how GREEN things used to be! haha
Your channel is so awesome 👏
Thanks so much 👊🏼
Awesome!! How do you decide which photos to deliver in black and white? Do you typically send them in color as well? Thanks!!
Good question! I think you just start to find your style as you edit and some images you will find are better suited to be black and white as they are even more impactful in B/W. I will oftentimes also deliver a color version but sometimes I do only the black and white. This depends and is just personal pref! :)
I see that this is an old video... but you did an outstanding job! I would love to see more vids like this!! :)
Aw thanks so much!! More to come 🙌🏼
Great video! I see that you shoot wide open @ 2.8 what looks to be most all your examples even in bright conditions. Do you shoot in apperature priority most of the time? Auto iso? Share your technique and thought process on this if you can. Thx!
I shoot full manual - and yes I loooove shooting wide open most times especially the 70-200mm because of the look it gives. I just know if it’s bright I’ll keep my iso low, & shutter speed high
@@Joymichelle I shoot full manual as well but on days that the sun is contantly changing I go with aperature priority so I dont miss any shots.
@@johncover3103 Ah! Gotcha! I tend to like aperture priority for when theres dappled sunlight and trees moving around constantly changing the light.
Great job
Thank you!!!
As a fellow glasses wearer, can I ask how you deal with:
1. Rain as per in this video.
2. smudges on your glasses when you hold the camera to your face. I am constantly rubbing up against my thumb while back button focusing and leaving big prints on my right eye glass.
I do have to clean my glasses a few times per wedding day - but i also find that using a view finder attachment on my camera can help this too!
@@Joymichelle Thanks, I'm learning to just look out of my left eye most of the day, lol
Love it.
Thanks for watching!
Great Video ..Learning a lot
So glad to hear it! Thanks
Excellent work
Hey thanks so much
@@Joymichelle really enjoy your channel
So glad to hear it! :)
I like it
Thanks Mercy!!
Good Work
Thanks
Looved the vídeo!
Thank you!!
Do you still shoot with your nikon D4?
Yes!
wow, your backup camera right?
And a D610
what do you set your flash settings ? TTL? M?
TTL when it’s on my camera and manual with OCF
Beautiful! Did the 2.8 capture both of them sharply? That 70-200 is heavy😂
Thanks! Yes! It does a good job as long as they’re close to being on the same plane
Very nice
Thanks!!
wow
So you do portraits straight after the ceremony? My couple always get congratulations from
The guests after then, then we do group photos then bridal and bridal party portraits.
I’m wondering if this works better but how do I voice this for them to understand, is this an American thing Mabye
Yes! We did family portraits inside directly after! Then straight to the garden :)
What time of day were these portraits taken?
They started around 2pm at the Annapolis waterfront and then the docks were around 3/330 and the garden was 5pm or so with sunset not being until around 830 this time of year
😀🥰😀🥰😀🥰
Your settings displayed are not noticable on the screen
Sorry about that!
Me lo mandaron por una tarea de artes y esta en ingles
💕💞
:)
more bts plsss
Hahha I’ve got some good stuff planned :) stay tuned
modal cemera use you
Nikon d4
Why no flash on outdoor shots? I see deep shadows under the eyes without it, generally speaking.
I personally don’t love the look of flash during the day outdoors so I generally avoid it until the reception or when shooting indoors :)
you are professional photographer but i might give your advice you should change your outfit to wear short or full sleeve clothes with jaz/blazer dont let your arm naked like that... if you want to look professional... btw iam photographer too but i always wear blazer with long sleeve because i respect the guest who give me a job to shoot their wedding session...
I’m sure it depends where you’re shooting but this isn’t considered unprofessional here.
Im sorry but most of the pics r over exposed :/
I really liked the last pic tho
So white text on a white background is useless
It’s fixed on my IGTV story if ya wanna see the settings more easily
