    It would have been great if you could have shown us how to give him the injection by yourself. Not everyone has someone at home that can help them. It's only getting harder and harder to do the more aware she is. Maybe some holding techniques would be good. It would be great if you could do an updated one with a very thin dog. It's very difficult to tent a dog that is very muscular or thin and on top of that, squirrely. It's also important to note that Vetsulin requires you to shake it vigorously per their advice.

    What if you drop the insulin !?Wouldn’t that be equivalent to shaking it? Also can you tell by looking at it if it became inactive?

    The U-100 needles are much more thin than the 40. I switched insulin from Novalin with the U-100 to Vetsulin U-40. What a struggle with these thicker needles. I’m hurting my dog, any tips on the U-40s would be helpful

    Thank you for the informative video. I am new to this and I hate giving the shot. Do you have to push the needle all the way in or just the tip of the needle? Also, is it really important to make sure the dog eats 5 min. before getting the shot?

      Eileen Young I was wondering the same . She was confusing at the end of the video about that. I put the whole needle into the skin. .... she was not clear .

      Yes, go to base of needle so you dont wimd up between dermal layers and cause puddling of insulin. They should have given you a needle length appropriate for your dog...

      Same here! My pup was really good at getting his shots at first, and now he growls at me and sometimes tries to bite. He isn't a normally aggressive dog. I don't where to go from here

      @@heather6404 I dont know if you're on fb but, dogs with diabetes have given me some great tips. I've been doing a few different things to make it easier. My dog was turning around to snap at me and growled so I put an e-collar on him. I also ordered an autoject 2 to hopefully make it easier. I wish you all the luck. This is a hard thing for not only us but our dogs.

    They say to pull back on the needle if there’s blood to start over? Also they say to rotate each side of the? 3 on each side,and make note of it! I’ve been giving it to him in the scruff of the neck, and they say not to do that? Very frustrating! He’s only got one life! Says right on the bottle to shake it! I have a hard time tenting the skin, tonight will be the first time he doesn’t get it in the neck for the past three months, I wish the vets would take more time and show us how to do this properly? Sometimes I do it and he doesn’t even know? other times I’m afraid I’m gonna bust the needle? I’m afraid of hitting something an Oregon or bone, whatever😲 had a glucose test done at the veterinarian and I was To bring insulin in a cooler ,that was ice pack in it and told him to put it in the fridge, eight hours later I came back and they didn’t put the cooler in the fridge and by the time I got home it was almost 65°? One place says the date it and get rid of it after 40 days? The other vet says it’s good till it’s gone? One person says don’t shake it because you’re damaged the proteins! But that’s exactly what it says on the box shake ? Now he has gone blind they want five grand to do one Eye and 6500 to do both Cataracts! 13 year old min pin.

    So pulling the plunger back to make sure your not in a blood vessel isn’t needed?

    • @rneustel388
      @rneustel388 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it’s always needed. If there’s any blood, pull the needle out without injecting, and discard. Then get a new syringe and repeat the process.

      @@rneustel388 Why didn’t they pull back plunger in video?Its not needed come to find out.

    • @rneustel388
      @rneustel388 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rob3393 As a registered nurse, I was taught to always pull back to make sure you’re not in a little vessel. There are videos on TH-cam that direct you to pull the plunger back. I guess a person just needs to follow the directions their veterinary office gives them.

    • @rob3393
      @rob3393 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rneustel388 I thought so too but my vet said it’s not necessary.It was a relief because not all dogs sit still when getting injections.It still bothers me wondering what would happen if the insulin was injected into a vein but vet said something about blood vessels are so tiny in fat layer they’d blow out instantly?? It is confusing because some videos say it’s needed while others say it’s not needed.

      @@rob3393 It will probably be difficult for me to change the behavior, but it’s possible canine vessels are that tiny just under the skin. I’m just used to human anatomy. lol
