I'm sorry to hear of Ben's story. I was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia a few years ago. I was fortunate to have it as an adult; the clinic I was treated at was located in a children's hospital. I salute those kids. For at least an adult can understand what is happening, why, and we adults have had the chance to live life. Please help out these however you can. If you don't have any spare money, consider volunteering to be a blood donor or a stem cell donor (for transplants). Cancer patients and leukemia patients especially survive and enjoy a better quality of life with blood transfusions. Its the difference, say, from having to stop halfway from the couch to the car to catch breathe, to being able to walk 3 miles unimpeded. It truly makes a world of difference. I'm permabanned from ever donating blood again (despite being O-) because of my status as a survivor; I'd be donating blood as often as I could otherwise.

    Rest easy, Ben.
And as a lifelong hockey fan, and a fan of the Oilers, hearing all they did for him, brings some hope for humanity.
Reminds me of my first troop, a celebration of life for a boy that was stopping his treatments for bone cancer. Only got to meet him for about ten minutes, but almost eight years after his passing, I still think of how brave he was. I was really glad I was wearing my Mandalorian kit. The helmet hid my tears.

It is vitual part of human beings, one that makes us different from animals: our ability to overcome natural obstacles like desiase, or weaknes of our own bodies. Sure, currently we can not cure cancer, but what makes you think that we won't be able to do it in the future? Unless some disaster (or stupidity) will stop our technological progress, i believe we will learn how to cure cancer and many other desiases.

In a similar thread, we haven’t been able to cure cancer yet for a number of reasons, chief among them being that cancer is a very random and unpredictable disease. Additionally, the only known way to treat cancer is incredibly toxic for the rest of the body and does not always work.
Is it possible that we will find some way to beat cancer in the future? Perhaps. However, this would require a level of genetic understanding that we just don’t have at the moment and likely never will but who knows

A Canadian youtuber mentioned this kiddo a bit ago and I was touched by his story. Donated what I could. Heartbreaking to hear about his passing. As a fellow parent I hope his can find some solace in how loved he was by so many people and how much we respect the little guy for his strength to keep fighting to the end.

I had always made sure to cheer on Ben and the Oilers when I was cheering for my usual team, you couldn't help but love him. It hit me when I saw he passed away, it reminded me of a person I knew who passed from cancer, a student that I connected with since I also have an illness, not cancer, but a chronic illness. It truly sucks how many kids get sick and can't even make it past a certain age, not getting to live a fulfilling life all because of some roll of the dice chance.

I was always following along with the highlights of Ben & the Oilers throughout the season, being a leafs fan I didn’t watch many games. But I did watch all of their playoff games. And seeing Ben so happy at these games, was really heartwarming. And I haven’t really been on social media much over the last few days and to come across your video when I was looking for Star Wars content to watch. Was a big shock since I didn’t know until I read the title and saw the thumbnail, my heart just sank, really unfortunate news. Ben will always be know as a fighter and the force will be with him, always 💙

I am not at all a sports or Hockey Fan, but when I see when a child's heroes help make their lives more full and such love and support, it makes me take pause and gives me some faith in humanity again. Thank you for showing this, my heart and prayers go out to these kiss and those who help. May the force be with you, and God Bless You All.

As a Ducks fan, I’ve really been into hockey for a long time now, even though I never saw oilers games via tv much outside of them playing my Ducks, all NHL fan bases are saddened by this loss he was so brave and strong willed. Props to the oilers for giving him the time of his life for what he had left. Our hearts go out to his family and the oilers organization.
RIp Ben. You will be missed

As an Edmontonian fan I was following him a ton. He made the entire city happier and better. For people who didn't follow hockey and his story, here's some fun facts:
--He attended the last ten regular season games the Oilers played in Edmonton. They won all of them.
--"La Bamba" became the Oilers' win song this season when another Oilers superfan, Joey Moss who had down-syndrome, past away last year (his favorite song was La Bamba). Ben then became known for saying "Play La Bamba, baby!" after an Oilers win. After an Oilers loss his dad would post on social media Ben saying inspiring words to the team. He was an inspiration to the team as the Oilers reached the western conference final for the first time in about 15 years.

What an awesome little man, and bless the Oilers for everything they did for him. I work at Rogers Place where this all happened, albeit an earlier shift so I was never actually there for it, but this still hits home for me. I'm not a huge hockey guy but the Oilers are my home team, it makes me proud that they made such a positive impact on Ben before his time on our plane was over.
Farewell Ben, I hope you score every shot you take in the hereafter.

Thanks for sharing this. He was a special little man to Edmonton and has cemented himself in Oilers' history. They started playing La Bamba as a victory song due to another Oiler legene Joey Moss, but with Ben's "play La Bamba Baby" line and what he has meant to the team there is literally no way they can change the victory song.
