As much as I love Earl Slick and Ronson with Bowie, there's just no comparison with any guitarist to Reeves Gabrels. The guy is amazing. And Zachary Alford on drums. What an epic live band to compliment Bowie and Gail...
@@Tampahop Nothing is better than Robert Fripp's "Original" !! His Style and Fingerwork on David Bowie's Album Scary Monsters and Super Creeps is absolutely incredible....more it's pure Art ..listen to "It's no Game Part 1" and the Guitar Solo at the and of "Up the Hill Backwards" 😮❤
David Bowie...the original. Nothing like him before or after. Never met him, never really understood him but I love his music. This is my favorite song. Thank you for uploading. Amazing drums and bass...Bowie at his best.
Bowie or the epitome of a gentleman... Thanks a lot for posting this hard to find video ! Somehow it makes me nostalgic: did French tv really used to have good programs ?? Never show this to the youngsters :P
Time the band pushed Bowie-Usually, the band his a support-This time Zachary nailed the beat,Gail drove it and Reeves just blistered and spat his way through every break. And DB was in full on competition mode-
She asked me to stay, and I stall her room. She asked for my love, and I gave her a dangerous mind. Now she's stupid in the street, and she can't socialize. Well, I love the little girl, and I'll love her 'til the day she dies. 🎵🎵🎵
David would sound in perfect symbiosis in conjunction with bands like Metallica. His music is heavy metal at the core. If he lived 300 years more he would certainly go in that direction as well. Our contemporary old man primate chameleon.
Thing is he didn't have a core sound, hence why he was so amazing. His style was 'Bowie'. Listen to his early albums, those in between & then his Last you cannot hear a particular "sound" like a Metallica album. He's so diverse. His 'sound' is David Bowie. To suggest his sound is heavy metal at the core is ludicrous.
Comparing Metallica to Bowie is just too weird. Bowie nailed and (rightly) got bored with 'metal' as far back as 'The Man Who Sold the World' album. All his subsequent dabbling with 'rock' was way more interesting than any 'rock' or 'metal' band ever.
Bowie would sound snazzy in conjunction with Metallica. His music is heavy metal at the core. If he lived 300 years he would certainly try even that reinvention. Our old hand primate chameleon.
Miss rock n roll, it’s been dead 2010-2020 more than any decade. Old heavy metal bands releasing reunion albums does not a comeback make. Neither does the strokes doing an album 20 years in that just makes you want to listen to the 2 decade old debut. Jack White is the last genius of rock n roll and he’s needed now, not his side projects, white stripes level sounds is what he needs to do. It died of natural causes I guess, how much more could we squeeze out of a 4-5 person guitar based band. Hope I’m wrong and a resurrection is drawing near.
I really like Reeves in his other ventures but I always despised his playing with Bowie and especially in this track. Fripp absolutely destroys him in the original recording.
What the hell is Reeves Gabrels doing in The Cure ? Wtf , that guy should be working with Scott Walker or someone along those lines ... what a waste of talent .
The Cure are amazing. Scott Walker was too, the ultimate god of dark music. Walker passed and I will miss him every day. Nontheless, his music in some areas is rather reminiscent of that of the Cure (Cossacks Are) etc.
The best Bowie song ever from Bowie
Dont say that. S9 many of them
That Guitarrist is a beast.
Fripy?
@@pt8208 Reeves Gabrels ( he is with The Cure now)
BEST FUCKING VERSION, THIS IS A MASTERPIECE ABSOLUTELY
Reeve's Gabriel's definitely cut from a different cloth
You never know what to expect premier lead guitarist 🌟🌟🌟

Never ceases to amaze Tin Machine SNL he just rips
That's a Parker w a sustainiac -- ⚡
Slick, Ronno, Alomar, and Belew were/are far superior to Reeves
@@ShiroiTengu Nah...not even close. Reeves all the way.
@@ShiroiTengutotally
I like Gerry too
Reeves is a scary monster of guitar.
The guitarist is on fire 😍😍😍
You have to be a very good and very confident player to play that style at that loud volume. Only a real master can pull that off. He's real.
Reeves Gabeks 🎸 ✌️🤘🇦🇺
WOW. Reeves guitar playing is so SICK!!!!!!
This is just insanely good.
The best version of this song ! Perfection.
Reeves is amazing on every live version of this song. I really love the one with Frank Black
One of the greatest live performances ever!!!
I love this version of the song, even more than the original recording, because this version has more raw power in the drum and guitar.
It has a real sense of "urgency" to it - that's what I like!
Saw him 22 times in concert...this is pure Bowie at his best! Love forever! Blessings from Paris France !
🙏🔥❤️🔥🙏
Reeves fucking Gabrels!!!!!
My God what a song! Absolutely perfect.
Surpuissant, je me souviens l'avoir vu en direct 🤩
Increíble
This version eats the original , few people accomplish that , but yeah, the kid on the drums is on fire and ... yeash, it´s Gabrels on the guitar !
yeah, specially since 4:39 is very Ramones!
@@nicolasmrn Power, but no finesse. Sorry, but doesn't compare to Robert Fripp's original guitar work.

Forever wishing I could've been at that concert.

R.I.P. David Bowie.
Que dire de cette version tout simplement du grand Bowie c est la perfection
Love the drummer on this. His playing reminds me of AC/DC's Phil Rudd - just pounding it out and steady as a rock.
Zachary Alford?
Absolutely off its friggin head.
Listening to this everyday 🤘
Trop classe, pour la mise en scène et les costumes...

Fucking fantastic
Fuck ya Reeves! Now that's how you play a guitar!
Increíble 😮 ❤ Me vine.
The Thin White Duke; always ahead of everyone's time. And when they caught up he had set new standards.
Reeves Gabrels literally tearing it up. Who's Robert Fripp again? 😉

@@blackmore4 I agree. Metallica for fuck's sake! Corporate fucking crap.
Drummer pure energy
Holy crap. Always thought that was Belew...have learned something here...
Reeves is amazing guitarist just like Adrian
Must add the amount of stunning guitarists that Bowie played with is phenomenal. Ronson, Fripp, Belew, Alomar, Rogers, Gabrel are 'just' 6!
It is Robert Fripp on the album
@@youjoker9647 Frampton.

Bowie and Nine Inch Nails were great together.
Scary...
RIP Canal➕
Ozzy called and wants his shades back!
Please, I'd like to know who is on the guitar? He is great.
Reeves gabrells, now playing with the cure
Reeves Gabrels. He stayed with David after Tin Machine disbanded.
Red of The Blacklist playing the guitar.
Atomica
For the life of me I cant track this performance down. No performance Feb 2 1997 at all. Im mentioning it in something Im writing
Feb 17, 1997 at Canal+, Nulle Part Ailleurs, Paris, France .
It's Reeves Gabrels.
It probably was Belew playing on the album. But not on this performance. Gabrels didn't join up with Bowie until after Scary Monsters was released.
unitcaptain11 Robert Fripp and Carlos Alomar played guitar on the song on the album.
Bryntorv Reeves blows them both out the water too!
stevobath
Reeves totally lays down the law. He owned it.
Gabrels didn't hook up with Bowie until the first Tin Machine Album in 1989...after meeting him during the Glass Spider Concert Tour.
? where's is the monsters? 😮😮😮😮😮
Why is Yoshikage Kira singing a song about Diego Brando?
@00:36
Ushhhhhhhhhhha!!!!!!!!
BOOEEE 😆
Prince at drum ? :)
NO. That is Zack. I forgot his last name. He played drums for Bowie early on and also B-52's. Watch Love Shack Video.
Gail Ann Dorsey, marry me. (My wife says it's OK)
If polygamy were legal, you would have had to fight Bowie for her first ;)
We would have invited him. (Unfortunately it is no longer possible ...)

Downvoted this only because of the French bloke waffling a the start...the rest was about as unFrench as one can get...
Guitar work sound like a sound fx board. Kinda lame
