We farmed in Western Canada with a 3588 back in the mid 80`s. A really good tractor for all the reasoned stated by others. It could always pull way above its horsepower rating! Put it in a tractor pull once and nothing could touch it for traction! Great memories. Thanks so much.

In the late 80's I had a choice between one of these or a 4690. My buddy bought the international and loved it. We bought had little problems with bought tractors.

I worked on an 8,400 acre farm in eastern Oregon from 1983 until 1985. They had several 6588s and 6788s. They grew nothing but shell corn at that time. I put a lot of time on a 6788 during the 1985 planting season pulling a 20 foot disc. The tractor was new and very comfortable to drive. Plenty of power, excellent visibility, easy to drive, climate controlled cab, and a good stereo. It didn't get any better!
This video brought back some memories.

It's nice to see these modern tractors at work.
It seems strange to me to see tillage done with wheeled tractors. When I was growing up on our farm in the north valley of California in the 1940's and 50's we used only track engines for tillage. I suppose that's in part because we didn't have these powerful wheel tractors available, but I understood it was mainly to avoid compaction of the heavy clay ("adobe") soil we had.
We used International TD-40s, mainly pulling disk harrows and a heavy wooden frame spike tooth harrows, and occasionally a military surplus disk plow. We later got an International TD-18 for heavy work, mainly pulling a ripper to break up "hard pan" that developed after a few years of shallow tillage.

Awesome find...it seems like there are a lot of classic finds, that are actually STILL IN GREAT CONDITION, in WI. When I was a boy my one uncle's family bought this exact model brand new and pulled a 6 btm IH in-furrow plow; I always liked when IH went to red cab and black wheels (really modernized their look)... I was in "hog-heaven" riding with him...Our biggest tractor at that time was a 1086 with 5 btm plow.

It wasn't mentioned here, but it was a tractor you could set up tread width for 30" rows and it would turn amazing...................not something others from any other maker could do. I liked the concept but there was not any around me, ended up buying a 6588 out of IA that needed work to see. The turning, ride, and low noise levels are awesome, and they can really put the power to the ground with the weight distribution and about float on mud. Would love to harvest processing tomatoes with one in mud, would think it would be a heck of a outfit.

Lot of the people who sold them told farmers it would work like those large articulated 4wd tractors and lot of those tractors ended up being junked. It was really for row crop operations instead of being like a Big Bud or Steiger tractors. That design probably would be a great seller today if CaseIH or Deere or New Holland had it.
