Shite, for that kind of money, I buy the best 4 way stereo DSP including the best preamp, I buy the best drivers I can find o the market with much lower distortion that what this mc is providing. I mean, polypropylene for the woofer at 12k? Common! I can have for 2k, 2 of the best woofers from Accuton or some of the finest extended range drivers from Purifi, or if I want to go for something even more exquisite, I can revolve around Acoustic Elegance woofers, a wonder of sound! For the mids I have such a wide range of incredibly good drivers, from aluminum cone 2-3" Peerless, up to Bliesma 3" textreme or beryllium membrane drivers. I really don't see any benefit of a 4 way design, when I can cross over in a 3th order fashion with 50db down at breakup freq of any of these drivers I can choose from! You really need 4 way when you've got some bad drivers in hand, that really need 4th order crossovers. 12K would grant me one of the best setup possible, including incredibly good class D amps from Purifi or Hypex. The box will also be so much better made than this piece of furniture I see!
@@tunejunky not just overpriced, at least it should have sounded well, but with such economic drivers and crossovers, it's an easy pass! The fact that they use a polypropylene cone for the woofer, says it all! It is the cheapest material for speaker cones and not one that sounds particularly good, especially when you have temperature changes in the room. These speaker's drivers cost at most 500$ for the entire set! You add about 300 $ for the crossovers if not less, 300 for the boxes at most, and you've got there a milking cow for the naive and not educated, that, indeed, are less and less available since the internet. I can assure you I can build a speaker set that would sound better, sell them for 2.2K and still make 1.1k of profit. Of course, it don't bear McIntosh name on them and the customers will never pay for the fancy reviews, but they will surely have a product that they would enjoy far more than this garbage at 12 times the price of production, that if you but the parts from partsexpress!
McIntosh speakers are a well kept secret. and yes they aren't cheap, but no more expensive than comparable high end speakers. obviously these are going with the old school aesthetic, but Mc has more modern looking speakers as well. and as far as performance, there are very few medium sized speakers that roll off @ 27Hz. heck, there are very few floor standing speakers that can go that low. what you're paying for is 1st quality handmade parts down to the voice coils. McIntosh is the only hifi or speaker manufacturer in North America to have a full size anechoic chamber and has maintained it for decades. so if you're a young guy looking for flash, these may not be for you, on the other hand if all you care about is music give these a listen. there are many speakers where job #1 is design aesthetic and i'm not going to pick on anyone because this is far more common than folks know. suffice to say the easiest way to stand out is to look different, and even many serious speakers in the high end spend as much design time on looks as performance.
What's the price of those beautiful speakers?
Nice 🙂
My guess for price was $15,000 until i saw the crossover, and then i dropped it to $12,000.
