I love this UH- Huey. It is so cute and good looking. When I was a boy, I was very excited when I saw it flew across my house while I was playing with my friends in front yard. It flew so low that I could see the soldiers clearly. I waved to them and jumped up and down. Vietnam in the year of 1973

I was born in 1958 , so by the time I turned 17 and joined the Army in 1975, I missed Vietnam by 2 years , But being the Airborne Infantry 1/509 in Italy there were plenty of Nam Vet pilots still serving , and when we conducted Air Assault training operations , Those guys seem to re live their days in country and fly like hell & we enjoyed the heck out of it, Tree top flight , sitting in the door with the skids kicking up dust & leaves was like no amusement ride you could ever find, Salute to those old Choppers & Crews !!!

049 was in my gunship platoon (Alley Cats ) of the 282nd Aslt Hel Co (Black Cats) in 69-70. Flew out of Marble Mountain air base in DaNang. 049 was armed as an experimental missile ship at that time. Carried six wire guided missiles that packed quite a wallop. I was a doorgunner on one of the other seven gunships of the Alley Cats, which were armed as you see 049 is in this video.

I know it's not realistic but I have this fantasy about being a mercenary flying the gunship all over the world with the back converted into a living quarter.
    It's badass!

    I'm glad to see the short-frame Hueys (# 204, UH-1B, C, E, F, and M) still flying, they had a shorter and lower production run/total than the long body (#205, UH-1D, H, and N)

The gunship is the early version UH 1B. The other, carry troop, supply, is the later version UH 1H

One of the best sounds ever. Only ever seen one flying and it was a police one over the bay of Naples.

I would love to see and hear the Hueys from the "Berlin Brigade" "Freedom City" ... I grow up with the daily flights along the Berlin Wall, where I lived.

My only Huey flight was a Berlin Wall observation flight out of Templhof in 1985.

The ones with the people going for a ride are called "Slicks". The gunships have the machine guns on the side.
