Hey Ya by Outkast. everyone’s losing their mind and fainting in the audience and there’s literally a casket on the stage. it’s a perfect encapsulation of the song
@@noemiequenum8767 The lyrics act as a stark contrast to the mood of the song and the video. The lyrics break down the underlying issues of blind love/ worship (which leads to further issues such as failed marriages). Melanie Martinez' albums 'Crybaby' and 'K-12' are about her alterego and each song has a very stylistic and creative music video that tell a story matching each song, and when watched in order form a progression of this character's life. The second album was actually created in the form of a whole movie which was uploaded for free on youtube. Her music style is probably not for everyone, but the creativity and planning that goes into her stuff is amazing and I really recommend watching her videos/movie if you like cute yet creepy thought provoking art.
tbh i perfer her crybaby music videos over the movies simply for the fact of how mysterious and dark it was. i feel like for k/12 it was mostly dancing and had vibes that made it less... dark and mysterious
@@zontzooit2415 yeah exactly. i think k-12 felt off compared to crybaby cause it was made to be a movie so everything made sense and had a story and the budget was huge while the crybaby music videos were made in a 4 year span and we saw her grow so much from dollhouse to mad hatter and each music video just had such a unique feel and vibe to it and always brought something new while i feel a lot of k-12 music videos were too similar to each other so they lost their originality and uniqueness to me. k-12 was still amazing but the visuals of crybaby were just so much more versatile and intriguing to me
@@m20047 yeah honestly what really killed it for me completely was the fcat that Melanie and her friends where basically invincible and at any moment could take over the school/do something about the teachers. there was basically never a-threat or a real conflict. they just for some reason decided not to use there powers to save themselfs and the school... which was so odd.... like melanie literally bardged into the classroom... yelled and bam her friend was saved... its too easy yet they make it seem hard when its not
as an enjoyer of kpop, i just love the music videos, and while every artist i love creates music videos i cant help watching over and over and never get sick of, there are 2 groups that really stick out to me--specifically for their narrative music videos. newjeans abd enhypen. the newjeans ditto music video is genuinely so good. it creates an entire story that is both related to the song and not related, it has a part a and part b to see both sides of the story, and they even made a WHOLE DIFFERENT TH-cam ACCOUNT for the main character of the video, which still posts. as for enhypen, all of their music videos find a way to tie back to their main theme as vampires, but my favorite music video of theirs is given-taken, which is kind of like the story behind the group. the visuals are incredible and the story telling is great. i also really love their concept videos--with the most notable to me being the dark blood concept video. highly recommend
When the subject of music videos comes up, my parents always talk about how the upcoming premiere of Michael Jackson's "Black or White" was on the news. I think they said it even premiered simultaneously on multiple networks! The last must-see music video I recall was "This is America." My coworkers dropped everything to gather around my phone, watch the video, and discuss it for like 20 minutes. Nothing else has even come close.
david bowie was the first musician to make a music video with a budget over 500K in 1980 with his release ashes to ashes. at the time, it was considered as the most expensive music video made.
Then Michael Jackson came along and revolutionized the music video/short film industry, and raised the bar the highest. Michael holds the title for the most expensive music video of all time.
Awesome video, you sound so passionate and all the variety in the clips you used actually got me hype to revisit some of my old faves I forgot about! Also your editing skills are insane. Hella talented
Tyler’s visuals are especially amazing to me because you KNOW he’s behind everything like it’s so obviously him. There’s very few people who you can say that about.
Michael Jackson is The King of Pop for a lot o reasons! God, hes short films are the reason why there's an industry for the music video format in the first place.
there were music videos before him lol, queen and the beatles for example. MJ just made them better and elevated them to another level I'll give him that.
@@NotJoegoldberg No, back then there was no music videos with a story narrative. MJ was the first musician to do it and made it to what we have now. The Eternal Sunshine director, Michel Gondry, has directed some incredible music videos, such as Björk's Bachelorette, Radiohead's Knives Out and my personal favorite, Daft Punk's Around The World, where everything that happens on screen mirrors something that happens in the music.
Michael Jackson's real dream was to become a Movie Director or Producer but as a poor working kid he never got that Freedom to follow his dream career, that's the reason why he incorporate movie theme into his music and helps to revolutionized and popularized MV .It ended up opening the door for all Black Artists in mainstream. What a beautiful example of Butterfly Effect #RIP 👑
As someone who stopped listing yo music shortly after high school, this video turned me onto some of my favorite songs, music videos and artists in years.
The music video of "Nightmare" by Avenged Sevenfold is amazing that really elevates the song. The badass look of M Shadows wearing aviator glasses with a backwards hat and a tank top against a pitch black background is something that absolutely makes you feel awesome. It makes you feel empowered.
I feel like lady gaga really brought people to watch music videos more back in 2010 bc here was so wild and started an era of so many artists going all out in their videos
music videos are EVERYTHING! i cant imagine what would it be like to listen to michael jackson's music without watching the music videos, and same goes for beyoncé and her self-titled album. You can't enjoy the music the same way as you do when you see the visuals.
I think ASAP Rocky has the most underrated music videos, the colours used, the camera angles, the clothes everyone has on, even some of the storytelling is absolutely out of this world
At 10:01 you can infer that Nathan’s standing outside in the rain and when we cut back to him at 10:06 he has taken the form of a woman. This is a metaphor intended to show that the true spirit of the feminine form lies within nature and only when we seek a return to nature can we embrace this part of ourselves. An understanding humanity through the understanding of femininity
I used to dislike music videos overall (with some major exceptions) but the way that some music videos have literally changed my life and how I hear the song forever has made me appreciate them. Videos that I found randomly as a kid or that I searched up as soon as they dropped. You don’t know my name by Alicia keys is the biggest one for me, but also no church in the wild, all night, formation, feel good, who dat boy, flawless, wait for me, that 48 second clip of new magic wand from the rollout and so many others that I can’t mention them all are like core memories. It literally can connect the music I listen to to a whole new world like it’s magic. But still, there are some videos that I will never forgive for not matching the the image in my head (looking at you king kunta), and with a few exceptions (Tyler, Beyoncé, etc) I don’t go searching for visuals. Sometimes I can appreciate a new interpretation, tho
the attention to detail in these vids is simply unmatched also if youre wanting a journey in concept, visuals, execution, etc. then i'd recommend you look into Bastille, their recent few bodies of work tell whole stories and are just *chefs kiss*
The Lumineers create basically movies for each of their albums. I mean, The Ballad of Cleopatra is simply incredible. They manage to tell stories and vibes and put them all together so it makes sense. That’s why they’re one of my favorite bands! On the opposite spectrum, you have BTS, yes! that had this continuous narrative throughout their MVs which connected in ways that everyone tried to analyze. That plus dancing! I mean, what?! Brilliant and so entertaining!
Really appreciate you using the actual music in the videos even if it might get claimed - really makes these videos pop. Great work Nathan!

Yes I couldn't agree more with you ... and the fact that she also produced the movie is so cool!
tbh i perfer her crybaby music videos over the movies simply for the fact of how mysterious and dark it was. i feel like for k/12 it was mostly dancing and had vibes that made it less... dark and mysterious
@@zontzooit2415 yeah exactly.
i think k-12 felt off compared to crybaby cause it was made to be a movie so everything made sense and had a story and the budget was huge while the crybaby music videos were made in a 4 year span and we saw her grow so much from dollhouse to mad hatter and each music video just had such a unique feel and vibe to it and always brought something new while i feel a lot of k-12 music videos were too similar to each other so they lost their originality and uniqueness to me. k-12 was still amazing but the visuals of crybaby were just so much more versatile and intriguing to me
@@m20047 yeah honestly what really killed it for me completely was the fcat that Melanie and her friends where basically invincible and at any moment could take over the school/do something about the teachers. there was basically never a-threat or a real conflict. they just for some reason decided not to use there powers to save themselfs and the school... which was so odd.... like melanie literally bardged into the classroom... yelled and bam her friend was saved... its too easy yet they make it seem hard when its not
I was thinking of her when he brought up visual albums immediately
as an enjoyer of kpop, i just love the music videos, and while every artist i love creates music videos i cant help watching over and over and never get sick of, there are 2 groups that really stick out to me--specifically for their narrative music videos. newjeans abd enhypen. the newjeans ditto music video is genuinely so good. it creates an entire story that is both related to the song and not related, it has a part a and part b to see both sides of the story, and they even made a WHOLE DIFFERENT TH-cam ACCOUNT for the main character of the video, which still posts. as for enhypen, all of their music videos find a way to tie back to their main theme as vampires, but my favorite music video of theirs is given-taken, which is kind of like the story behind the group. the visuals are incredible and the story telling is great. i also really love their concept videos--with the most notable to me being the dark blood concept video. highly recommend
I can confirm without a shadow of a doubt, he doesn’t miss.
Tyler’s visuals are especially amazing to me because you KNOW he’s behind everything like it’s so obviously him. There’s very few people who you can say that about.
that’s true, A$AP Rocky even said it when Tyler won that Innovator award; they both create and direct their own visuals and you can tell 🔥
@@alejandrafaura9273 Rocky's L$D MV is fucking insane. Dexter Navy got crazy directing with rocky
Rocky’s A$AP Forever MV is the best I’ve ever watched
Just found you randomly and I can't lie you opened up my creativity to 1000 would love to work with you on some projects
Michael Jackson is The King of Pop for a lot o reasons! God, hes short films are the reason why there's an industry for the music video format in the first place.
there were music videos before him lol, queen and the beatles for example. MJ just made them better and elevated them to another level I'll give him that.
@@NotJoegoldberg I did not said he was the first.
@@NotJoegoldberg No, back then there was no music videos with a story narrative. MJ was the first musician to do it and made it to what we have now. Before that, musicians were doing music videos with no purpose of a story telling either there mv’s were performing on stage or just doing something “artsy” Get your facts right.
@@primeracalledelasoledad8439 No you were right the first time, he was literally the man that invented short films with story telling in his music videos and popularise it to what we have today.
7:42 - "We all know that every single Michael Jackson video is peak" yeah same with Nathan. Each upload is like a breath of fresh air. I'm out here waitin for the day you become a legit producer and everyone gets to see your genuine talent. Can't wait for the next magnum opus
idk if anybody corrected it but from 5:08 to 5:11 (right after Psy) it's the group NCT (not Seventeen) and they are in fat 23 in total !! great video btw !! keep up the good work !!
The Eternal Sunshine director, Michel Gondry, has directed some incredible music videos, such as Björk's Bachelorette, Radiohead's Knives Out and my personal favorite, Daft Punk's Around The World, where everything that happens on screen mirrors something that happens in the music.
it’s a classic. he literally said the word ‘visuals’ and it’s a classic.
You should definitely do a “The Power of The Unreleased albums/songs”
Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson is an entire film on its own
That's the best video ever made for me
Moonwalker, right?
Bad also has a 18min short film
To this day, I still can't figure out how he leaned forward without falling down.
When you started playing 80s I knew I was gonna get fucking Rick rolled
Once he mentioned “memes”, I saw it coming.
This is why MJ is the ultimate G.O.A.T.
Absolutly!
The music video of "Nightmare" by Avenged Sevenfold is amazing that really elevates the song. The badass look of M Shadows wearing aviator glasses with a backwards hat and a tank top against a pitch black background is something that absolutely makes you feel awesome. It makes you feel empowered.
alternative title: nathan slowly finds out he has synesthesia
Lauryn Hill, "Ex factor" and Diangelo "Untitled (How does it feel)" are some of my favorite music videos
I feel like lady gaga really brought people to watch music videos more back in 2010 bc here was so wild and started an era of so many artists going all out in their videos
I legit thought of Leave the Door Open, I liked the song before, BUT AFTERRRR I truly love it
music videos are EVERYTHING! i cant imagine what would it be like to listen to michael jackson's music without watching the music videos, and same goes for beyoncé and her self-titled album. You can't enjoy the music the same way as you do when you see the visuals.
Anything Tyler puts out is such a beautiful video
the weeknd’s after hours saga should be made into a movie
or just watch After Hours, Casino and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas??
Yessir
Janelle Monae's Dirty Computer album, Make Me Feel was so goodddd
I think ASAP Rocky has the most underrated music videos, the colours used, the camera angles, the clothes everyone has on, even some of the storytelling is absolutely out of this world
At 10:01 you can infer that Nathan’s standing outside in the rain and when we cut back to him at 10:06 he has taken the form of a woman. This is a metaphor intended to show that the true spirit of the feminine form lies within nature and only when we seek a return to nature can we embrace this part of ourselves. An understanding humanity through the understanding of femininity
My favorite part of the video 💁♀️
pur
Kids by MGMT mastered the art of matching the sound to the visuals. Literally spot on for what I had in my mind
yessss
Sometimes I can appreciate a new interpretation, tho
the attention to detail in these vids is simply unmatched
also if youre wanting a journey in concept, visuals, execution, etc. then i'd recommend you look into Bastille, their recent few bodies of work tell whole stories and are just *chefs kiss*
The only thing is disliked about this vid is that it ends. Can't wait to watch your first music video in the future.
There's something wholesome about youtubers like Nathan talk about music so passionately :)
