I own a small farm in Virginia and bought a new F350 because I need a truck. The GVWR is over 10,000lb so it doesn’t qualify for car tax relief. Virginia wants over $3000 in annual PP taxes on it. That’s in addition to income tax, sales tax, registration taxes, inspection fees, gas taxes, etc. I’m going to sell the truck and buy a used car because out of principle I refuse to pay so much in taxes. Guess I can’t have a truck to work on my farm. Thanks Virginia, I was born and raised here but I won’t be retiring here.
It’s a dumb tax. If it’s going to schools, it’s not working… education in the area is horrible. If it’s going to roads, it’s definitely not being used. It’s just a money grab.
I have relatives that live there and VA does have high taxes & lots of them, both state and county. It's going to drive people out of the state with made up tax rates. Farmers will end up selling property to big conglomerates for condos & the peoples way of life will deteriorate eventually. It's my understanding VA has a tax surplus too! .....proof of over taxing. Numbers don't lie.
You fell for the government answer. It’s pure greed in Virginia. You’ll get taxed by multiple counties if you move. Everyone blames DMV who never answers. Sell a car and the new owner doesn’t go to the DMV to get a new title.
Virginia tax you on everything . For example cars houses, gas , grocery, restaurants ,boats, tourists and ect.I glad I moved away . Anyone tell me what you think ? Have a nice day.
I moved to Virginia a year ago from New Jersey. I had no idea about that personal property tax. How can that tax something that you already own? Why is this even legal. Also in NJ they don't charge sales tax for clothing and groceries like here in Virginia.
Well tax rates should go down since the cost of cars have gone up. Paying thousands a year for a new truck is criminal! But hey, that's what happens in blue states. People need to start voting red.
Yearly Propert tax on something you already own and paid tax has got to be the most dumbest thing. Are you really free or do you really own?

Fun fact: if you buy an EV, you pay an EXTRA fee to register your car. This is to make up the offset of not burning enough fuel.

@@AlphaBiker54same thing in Oregon. No property tax and no sales tax
@@kbye4440 New Jersey does have sales tax, just not on groceries or clothes. Virginia taxes everything.
I bought a brand new expensive car, poor me, pity me. Lol.
