Very informative! I'm absolutely shocked by the horrendous salaries and the quality of life there vs taxes you're having to pay. Definitely feel like you should atleast reconsider moving back to Australia. We have a lot of social issues due to the cost of living crisis here, however they are nowhere near as bad as Canada as a whole (or Toronto/Vancouver in particular). Also for skilled professionals, there is absolutely a fair bit of growth both from a remuneration and career perspective (albeit not as much as the US, but trumps US in terms of social capital).
Its all money race here. I worked as a cashier before and I understand what they are going through. However these days i meet very rude cashiers and i dont even do anything but ask short simple questions. PLUS the rent is crazy. Im paying about $3200, a month included car insurance, rent, hydro, gas, etc. with my roommate. Im dying of depression.
Canada is not only Toronto. There are a LOT of places where we can live. I myself live in a city called Fredericton in New Brunswick, Canada. It is a beautiful place but population is increasing here also and causing all the issues but not in the scale of Toronto.

Can someone paint a picture of salaries in Australia, especially in the construction sector? I keep seeing a lot of videos stating that salaries in Aus are higher than Canada. I came to Canada as a student 6 years ago, studied at a good university and have been working in the construction sector for a lil over 4 years. I have been in Vancouver ever since I moved here and love the city! Yes, it’s a costly city, but I was lucky enough to save for a downpayment and bought my own condo at the start of the year. And make north of 100K as a base salary. I have a lot of relatives and friends in Australia who keep asking me to explore that country as a PR. So, need some input here to see if construction pays more or if its relatively the same? I know for a fact that the methodology would be the same, but materials could be different.
The only main thing about Toronto that is really good for both domestic and foreign internationals is higher education. A certificate or diploma in the field of skilled trades, engineering, social worker, chef, firefighter, computer programming, and the list goes on and on, makes perfect sense. And no, I don't mean degrees in political science, philosophy, and other worthless degrees that will not get you a job, except heavy debt loads.
Thanks for the video, its an actual raw outlook on the realities now I would say. I see many people have a negative sentiment on immigration. I think its not the immigrants to blame because the canadian government does promote immigration through express entry. Visa officers vet these people for their qualifications, backgrounds etc. and the country does need to fill its country with people to sustain a growing economy. I would say its the lack of government initiatives to bring down cost of housing mainly due to large scale bureacracy which exists which makes it hard for new construction. Also theres foreign investment on many of the housing which are given on rent and these owners outside the country create a monopoly on the housing market. Also the increase in temporary residents pose the actual problem mainly refugees; yes I agree canada should admit them but not at the rate it is doing now. There are a lot of people who misuse this path and eventually do not contribute much to the economy. So when blaming immigrants i hope people realise people coming through skilled visas are definitely not to be blamed.
I am glad you liked it and shared your thoughts. I completely agree with you and this government is not only doing injustice to its citizens but also to the new people they are inviting to live here. Hope it gets better soon xx

Since the late 90s it's been one of the "Titanics" of the western world, perhaps the country too, but escalating more than ever. That place is simply first world only on paper and the history, but they abused what their forebears had built and created. As early as the late 80s/early 90s, the famous Canadian show Kids in the Hall and 22 Minutes, as well as Canadian comedians already poked fun, and what more when the city and country was still passable back then!

We fought for decades to legalize it - the war on drugs has ruined more lives than the plant. If you don't like Canadian culture maybe don't become Canadian.
Simple solution Ab. The last 5 years immigration was quite unplanned. The last 5 years immigrants totally displaced the poor from their dwellings. Now they are in the street. Last 5 years the population increased by 3 million. The building constructions (affordable) is not catching up to the population surge. To build a house in Canada is expensive. It is not like building one in the outback. You need heavy insulations and adequate heating. You hear about people leaving Canada. That may be true. However "net immigration" is increasing year after year. Also the " leaving people" sneak back to the country after couple years later when nobody is watching. I have seen it many times in my stay here. Still people are coming here because -Canada is still one of the best countries in the world. I live in a small city. Population 105,000. A very green city. All the convenience you can think about. Clean and good roads. Very less garbage (please don't live close a Tim Horton). We go and take a look at Toronto once every couple of years. 55 minutes to TO by a car. 20 minutes to Hamilton, one hour to London, ON. 1.5 hours to the nearest US border. Best of both worlds.🤣🤣
All things you said are right. It’s hard to live here these days. People who moved a few years back, most own homes and have gone through their own struggles but relatively it’s harder to live here in this current situation. @@Whatsnextakanksha You don't have live in Toronto. With connected world now jobs are are also moving from major cities to smaller less expensive cities. life is lot better in small population centers.
As an Aussie with extended family in Canada who have lived over there for well over 2 decades, just wanted to chime in re housing construction "across the pond" - building a house in Australia is also frightfully expensive and rivals Toronto/Vancouver in terms of costs. This is largely due to the country being a literal island (raw material shortages), extremely stringent regulation and exhorbitant labour costs due to trade skills shortages. As a result, a decent 3-4 bed house will set you back approx $1.5M (1.35M CAD) if not more. Having made the minor point regarding construction costs being somewhat equal, I agree that the key issue/underlying factor behind this rapid degradation is unfettered immigration, as you've touched upon in your comment. However, there is another factor that has made a huge impact on the housing situation, and that involves unrestricted foreign investment into real estate by two very specific demographics seeking to park "black money" in foreign markets; as a form of "hedging". Thankfully it appears that a recent policy shift has occured in the form of "Prohibition on the Purchase of Residential Property by Non-Canadians Act". However, on ground realities is that it can be easily circumvented by using anchors and proxies; but it is definitely a step in the right direction. Also, re the "leaving people" , I would surmise this would be owing to the wage growth being significantly outpaced by COL, and looking at the chart in AB's video I wouldn't really be surprised. Sadly, regarding your point around working remotely from smaller towns, it definitely narrows down career options as its not as ubiquitious as one would think and may not necessarily be supported by organisations going on an "anti-Wfh" pogrom lately.
