      I’m on the Ranch Fairy kick as well. I’m shooting a Scorpyd crossbow. I didn’t have time to get my arrow weight as high as I wanted. I was able to get 125 grain black Hornet Ser razors 4 blade. I shot a nice 8 pointer last week. It was around 25 yards away and quartering away. I was a double lung shot. The deer ran probably ran approximately 75 yards. I have to say that the blood trail was not that great. Keep up the great videos

    I'll tell you guys!!! Weve all got our favorite heads. But i found a head recently that blows all other mechanicals out of the water. I've been bow hunting since 1986 and I'm about as hard core as they come. I've been batteling broadhead problems for years. But I've found a head i can say that I'll never change again. It's my broadhead for life. I almost got the grim reaper but i passed due to front deploy. But the one i chose is the best of the best.

      @@BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA i've whacked and stacked plenty of em through the years with a whitetail special, just wondering how much penetration difference you'd get in a rear deploy vs over the top. i think it'd be beneficial especially at longer distances for those of us that can use either.

    does grim reaper make a practice head for this particular head? How do sharpen these broadheads or replace the blades.

    • @BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA
      @BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure if they do, never needed one they fly true

    • @robertbatista7164
      @robertbatista7164 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Grim reaper has practice heads for all their mechanicals. I think they’re unnecessary as they all fly like field points but it removes doubt for some people. These are super efficient Broadheads. My only complaint is the side blades are very easily chipped and bent either by bone or the ground on pass through shots. Also, the “wack” from these Broadheads really spook the deer into a sprint regardless of placement. Most deer I hit with my old school fixed G5 Montecs are spooked by the sound of the arrow hitting the ground on pass throughs behind them and turn to face it vs running.

    @mikeharryhunt1709 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Didnt penatrate much more then the steelhead when the steelhead was shot with a 45 lbs bow and much lighter arrow I'm guessing. I'd like to see the 125 grain old school steelhead tested but there hard to find. U can find them on ebay but they only last about half a day before they are bought up.

    • @BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA
      @BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting results, the angle of contact with the bone could have came into play there but mechanical heads don’t take angled hard impacts very good like a stout fixed head will

    • @codytaylor2194
      @codytaylor2194 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Was it a standard whitetail special? Grim reaper makes certain heads for crossbow for the faster velocity...that might been your problem..I've shot over 20 deer with the whitetail special and never had the first problem and never lost a deer

    I am sorry to say I had 2 of these not open on my deer last year but it did make for a good blood trail not sure if I just got a bad batch but I am going to give it another shot this season and see what happens

    • @BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA
      @BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve never had a problem with them BUT I am not one to say it’s not possible, with any mechanical there is always a chance of failure it’s one of the man reasons why I’m switching to fixed
      Only question is are you sure they didn’t close on exit of the deer? Because that is common with grim reapers based on the design of them once they pass through and lose the tension holding the blades back they often fold back up

    • @cray-z7404
      @cray-z7404 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the arrow passed completely through the deer then the broadhead usually closes back up after exiting the deer ... its been tested and proven that they open and then close on the exit side

    • @BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA
      @BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree 100%

    • @plopez9152
      @plopez9152 ปีที่แล้ว

      2 arrows didn’t pass through and you could see the imprint of the broad head trying to open on the exit wound. I just had one break on a frontal shot on a bull elk and didn’t recover the elk and will sadly say I will not be trying them again.

    • @BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA
      @BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hell a frontal shot on a whitetail deer is even risky with a mechanical I can only imagine it would be even more of a no no with any mechanical on a elk no matter what your arrow build
      I’ll have to check the anatomy of an elk frontal shot as I’ve never hunted them so I may be wrong but that seems like a fixed head kinda shot to me as of now

  • @savage7477
    @savage7477 ปีที่แล้ว

    Shoot mechanicals and you will have failures

    • @BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA
      @BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA  ปีที่แล้ว

      You could indeed, realistically do anything and you can have failures
      With that said I do trust and shoot fixed heads
