      John doesn't get it. He's rambling about the laws of physics and thermodynamics and doesn't even understand what fallacy he's presenting. He doesn't know why the laws are the way the are and instead if saying I don't know he says " therefore God". It has absolutely no connection to a god not even in his argument.

    • @mistersippi2945
      @mistersippi2945 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chrisking6695 Funny how he only mentioned the 1st LoT, none of the other ones. Does John not realize that there’s LOTS of people that know what Thermodynamics are? Or does he think he’s the only one to hear about them? Where does he get his information on the LoT, that he thinks they prove a “god”. Does he think that no one else would’ve noticed that and already demonstrated it if it were true
      It’s crazy how narcissistic and entitled guys like John can be, to claim that they are the only ones who could be right “cuz god”. Simultaneously using the research of other people, claiming it as his own, then saying that said research is wrong/inaccurate.
      Therefore his god is real and created everything including Thermodynamics, and it’s unfair to ask for a demonstration of this “god” or “creation”.

    I'm an atheist. And at first I would ask myself why would people invest time talking against religion. But now I realize that it's not exactly against religion, it's more a fight against ignorance. Thank you for this channel and for all your contribution in favor of critical thinking and knowledge. I used to think a lot of atheists seemed to be actively angry at the God they claimed not to believe in. I mean, maybe some people are, but thankfully now I realize that it doesn't work that way. People go around believing things that are contradictory and holding them back, and there's nothing wrong with being frustrated at that.

      People actions are greatly influenced by their beliefs, and I would say this is a major belief, and actions have consequences. What is the harm to society, to the progress of human evolution, if the majority of the population is making decisions and acting from a false narrative or irrational assumptions? Shouldn't we try to remedy that?

      Where I am from, theists are relatively liberal so your day to day religion seems fairly harmless. But you look elsewhere, or dig down to the fact that people believe in ridiculous nonsense and suddenly it is scary. I was so irritated when I was young that everyone around me believes just one guy is magic and can come back to life, and this belief gets a free pass from basic sense.

    John's entire understanding of the topic he called in with is that someone told him "the first law of thermodynamics proves God" and he has no ability to discuss beyond that.
    I'm surprised they didn't raise this issue with him, but if it's so obvious and clear cut that this fundamental law of physics proves a supernatural creator, why isn't it the consensus of scientists in these fields that a supernatural creator exists? John either has to reconcile that by going down a conspiracy rabbit hole, or acknowledge that he completely misunderstands the law.

    • @gavsmith1980
      @gavsmith1980 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just to play devils advocate for a second, actually it IS the consensus of scientists in those fields that if you retrace time to the Big Bang, the laws of nature break down just before you get there, therefore it’s not inaccurate to say that it was not a natural event, possibly not even an event as we think of them to begin with.

    • @DanieleNiero
      @DanieleNiero 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gavsmith1980 It was an important event for this universe, but you can't say it was anything else. You can't labelled with terms such as "exceptional", "unique", "natural". "unnatural" and such. We simply don't know enough and there is the risk that we will never know.
      However, what we can say about the big bang, is that it was a transformation, not a creation (ex nihilo), of energy into... well, all our universe is. Transformations happen all the time and they are all "natural". So the safest bet, as for now, is that even that event that started the Big Bang was caused by what we would call "natural" event or events.

      Love him or hate him, Matt usually does a great job of keeping a conversation on track. Also, he's addressed this point before. The show isn't for the callers' benefit; it's for the viewers. He tries to keep the call entertaining and on topic.

      @@biteyalmighty7874 I've been watching for almost 10 years. Big fan. Yet the show has kinda gotten hard to watch lately because of Matt. Matt was one of my favorite people to listen to talk about atheism and logical fallacies, and he was absolutely instrumental in my conversion to atheism. I watch every debate of his that I can find.
      But I'm not a sycophant and I can still acknowledge things I don't agree with. For example, I don't think the way he handles callers now makes for a good show. He talks over people and often ends up missing or misunderstanding what they're trying to say because he thinks he already knows and just shuts the conversation down. Not every time, but way too often. He interrupts people constantly but absolutely loses his mind if they do the same. It's gotten a bit tyrannical.
      Back to my original point, I just kinda roll my eyes every time he says "OK I'm gonna let the co-host talk to you cuz I'm done" because you just know he's gonna keep talking anyway.

Going back to my previous reply, the most unbearable conversations I've seen on these shows are 30 minute conversations where the caller repeats the same script dozens of times, dodges the hosts questions dozens of times, and tries to change the topic dozens of times. Literally everything he does revolves around us. Lovecraft's gods have no such compulsion for something so insignificant.

    Yet again, callers try to explain what they believe when they basically have no idea what they believe. It's a tragic comedy watching how these inarticulate callers try desperately to express inconsistent beliefs using fallacious arguments, and then keep accusing the hosts of not understanding what they are saying. No, the hosts have heard all this crap before and already know that the callers have no idea what they believe. Most of it is just the same old idiotic Bible Babble that ultimately can't even be made into a coherent idea. It's hard to blame the callers for not being able to make sense out of the self-contradictory hodgepodge of the Bible, but it is inexcusable to think that such incoherent nonesense can be defended rationally. That's an impossible stretch, and I think that's what aggravates Matt the most. He seems so happy and sometimes even patient when someone actually knows and can explain what they think, even if it's completely wrong. But theists who actually know what they think are rare.

      Now if you were to call in to the AE hosted by Dillahunty, he would cut GAZZ MAN apart, as you can't prove there IS NO GOD. Matt would say that you don't have sufficient evidence to prove your claim. Because every Atheist is not convinced that a god exist, as there is a lack of evidence, but they do not claim absolute knowledge.

    I have been told and read a story about a giant Purple Cloud named Gorf that loves us all. And Gorf wants only the best for all of us because we are Gorf's creation. As long as we follow all the rules that other people wrote in the Book of Gorf about what Gorf wants, allows, and prohibits, we'll all be OK. Gorf is Love and Love is Gorf.
    You must find Gorf, but Gorf is everywhere and everything: YOU are part of Gorf, and Gorf is a part of you. Gorf is all and everything. So, really you don't need to find Gorf because you are Gorf. And, because Gorf is infinite, nothing can be outside of or apart from Gorf. However: if anything seems amiss or out of step, that must be caused by Rorf, the evil entity who fell from grace with Gorf. However, because Gorf is infinite and everything, Rorf is also a part or aspect of Gorf. So all is as it should be would be or could be. Gorf knows everything you were, will be, or could be, so whatever you do is what you were meant to do, and all is right with Gorf.
    I KNOW that Gorf exists because I have felt and experienced His presence-not that I could help it because Gorf is the all and everything: infinite and permeating all consciousness and life throughout the universe.
    If you don't believe in Gorf, that's because Gorf made you with the ability to deny his existence just so he could lord that over you at the right time to prove how powerful, loving, and just he is. Gorf allowed you to be born with wicked imperfections even though you cannot be born apart from or aside from Gorf because he is infinite and you are part of Him and he is part of you, and He knows all there is to know about you and all there ever will be to know about you as you are a direct part of Him.
    But since Gorf already knew everything possible about you and knew everything there could ever be to know about you, none of this makes any sense.
    Gorf is Love and Love is Gorf anything else is irrelevant.

      Sorry, but I was born in a different land, and there we know that the real one is Orfg, all the other ones are not. And what makes mine real is that I have faith, and there's a book that was written by Orfg and says so and the reason that what's written in the book is true, is because the book says so, and was written by Orfg.

      David Gerrold:
      1) An object in motion will be moving in the wrong direction.
      2) An object at rest will be in the wrong place.
      3) The energy required to move an object in the correct direction, or put it in the right place, will be more than you wish to expend but not so much as to make the task impossible.
