Het Nederlandse televisieprogramma "Countdown" was van 1976 t/m 1993 “Europe’s Number 1 Rock Show” en werd uitgezonden bij Veronica. Later werd het programma ook uitgezonden in het buitenland en was het op z'n hoogtepunt in meer dan 20 landen op televisie te zien.
Gedurende deze 17 jaar muziekgeschiedenis zijn er opnames gemaakt met talloze internationale sterren, zoals Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Tina Turner, Janet Jackson, Stevie Wonder, The Rolling Stones, George Harrison, U2, The Police, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, Lenny Kravitz, Depeche Mode, New Order, Whitney Houston, Duran Duran, R.E.M., Frankie Goes To Hollywood, The Cure, Run DMC, Cyndi Lauper, Iron Maiden, New Kids On The Block, LL Cool J.
Uiteraard kwamen Nederlandse top-acts als Doe Maar, Andre Hazes, Herman Brood, Frank Boeijen, Spargo, Golden Earring, Time Bandits, De Dijk, De Raggende Manne, Hans de Booij, Gerard Joling, Drukwerk ook langs voor een optreden in Bussum.
Countdown werd gepresenteerd door oa Lex Harding, Erik de Zwart, Adam Curry, Simone Walraven Wessel van Diepen, Jeroen van Inkel, Rob Stenders, Simone Angel en Jasper Faber.
Het Countdown archief is vrijwel helemaal compleet en sinds 2017 eigendom van het Amerikaanse Reelin’ In The Years Productions (David Peck - reelinintheyea...) en Double 2 Hilversum (Jan Douwe Kroeske - www.double2bv.nl). Het archief bestaat uit meer dan 3.000 analoge mastertapes die allemaal gedigitaliseerd en gearchiveerd zijn. So happy someone else mentioned that. John had one of the best looking mullets of the 80's (and also Macgyver (RDA) in the later seasons). I was always wishing i could get my mullet to look as good as his at the time, but never quite could. I miss it. Been itching to grow my hair back, but honestly, 37 years later it won't look all that good anymore

Facts! He is currently recovering from major oral (mouth and neck) cancer surgery. He is unlikely to ever sing again, but he's had a wonderful career.

@@CDubya.82 I attended one of his Concerts and he wasnt Lip Syncing the TV and Recording cams were there to broadcast it and In no Way was he Lip Syncing i was there im a testmant to that
@@traviscarlson6718 I never said he lip syncs every concert. I merely stated that in this instance, the audio is the album track. You are not hearing his live vocal. Its not uncommon for tv performance in the day for many artists.
I too have attended more than a handful or two of his concerts over the last 20 years.
Ok, yes he refuses to lip sync in live performances in concert and on tv. BUT it’s quite documented that some of his media performances in Europe, the tv shows, like this one in the Nederland, would not allow a live vocal….. which is so sad. He did another on top of the pops in the UK, and he is singing live with miming back up singers and musicians…. But yeh this sounds exactly like the album track
