......You know, I'm actually glad that Alisa brought up this point. I never even considered about looking at it at that perspective... From a gameplay perspective, it looks cool, as you're piloting a special robot/mech with your allies as support. However, from a narrative/character perspective, it actually could be sad (especially if you've played all games). That there's the possibility of the other members of Class VII feeling guilty of having Rean shoulder that much of burden, that they can't actually be there and help/support him in mech battles. They know what type of person Rean is, and how many issues that he has. That it must hurt to see him suffer (at least mentally). That attack on Ymir when Rean was negotiated to be taken to the Panteguel in safety of the town (CS2), it must've really hurt and agonized mostly everyone (Class VII) of how they think they've burden Rean of guarantying their safety. Then, there's the ending scene of CS1, where the team stayed behind and try and stalled Crow (along with Celine's forceful methods) for Rean to get away because they've stated (along with Celine) of how important Valimar was going to be in the war; and how heartbroken Rean was when he was carried away and leave his friends behind because of it. I believed that Alisa actually brought it up in CS2 when Rean was reunited with Nord's group. .....Honestly...I'm surprised that I didn't see this the first time watching the walkthroughs. I guess you can only recognize certain things once you revisit something.....

This scene right here all but confirms these two being a real canon couple. It's not just them literally being so close to each other, one of his classmates took the time to view things from his perspective, to try to understand what he goes through when the going gets tough. As cool as everyone else is, Alissa a saint in comparison when it comes to these bonding events, which is saying something given her rather tsundere attitude.

I didn’t like Alisa in the first game, so I never really did any of her bonding events even in the second game, wow did I miss out. I liked her a lot better after playing Cold Steel 2 and 3 and now I’m replaying all the games with her as my romance option.
Yeah, that was my first impression too. The whole boob faceplant scene was so unnecessary and it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. However, I'll give her credit for calling herself out on the whole incident. And after several replays, she finally grew on me. Guess it's just my distaste for Tsunderes in general considering how they always act like they're on their period and abuse the guy endlessly.
I know this comment was 2 years ago, but I just had this on my feed lol She was unbearable in CS1! Never would have guessed she'd have interesting scenes like this hidden away
@@ntrotter1166 Wait 2 years already??? What even is time it feels like yesterday I made this comment. But yeah I am still of the opinion that Alisa in the first game is one of the worst characters I’ve ever seen, I absolutely HATE the “main character is mistaken as a pervert by main heroine” trope. After playing all four games in the cold steel arc I’m looking forward to seeing her again in Reverie.
Scenes like these really illustrate how the writers want to have a canon romance just like in Sky, but the marketability of harem nonsense prevents it. So all they can do is strongly hint at who ought to be together, but ultimately never commit to it. On the one hand, whatever it takes to keep this series funded I guess. But still it's a damn shame we will never get to see any future developments on the romance front for our protags like Joshua and Estelle have. Even Lloyd and Elie dance around the issue, and I'm sure it'll be the same for Van and Elaine.
It’s one of Alisa’s bonding events I forget which part of the game it might be after you free Bareahard. It’s only voiced in the PC (Steam) and PS4 versions of the game
@@si-level yup stupid auto correct at work once again. But yeah Bareahard sorry. I feel like it's after freeing that area up for exploring that you can get this bonding event
How? Cause they're both swordsman? That's even more shallow a reason. To begin with, Laura's frankly even more generic because she's a walking archetype of a character who never truly grows as she ends the series same way she begins it: a swordswoman looking to improve herself. Compare this with Alisa who actually does grow as a character and has to deal with personal issues stemming from both herself and her mother and learn to overcome them. She ends the series very differently than where she started: from a girl running away from her family to a young woman doing what she can to protect it. Relationship wise with Rean, Laura's also generally falls more flat for me. Most of their conversations just boils down to them talking about swordsmanship which isn't exactly titillating conversation. Alisa's is more varied in that regard because she and Rean generally bond over stuff beyond a shared hobby. These topics include stuff concerning their relationships with their families, the troubles they face over it, their desires for the future, and overall their mutual growing attraction towards one another by the latter half of the series.
@@1Tekkaman Alisa has talked to Rean about his situation in the story and worries about him plenty enough, with the above video in question giving perspective to how much she actually worries about him piloting Valimar and wishing she could do more for him. She also understands Rean well enough to actually apologize over her and Class VII forcing him to abandon them during the Battle of Trista as she knew exactly how he'd blame himself for it. The others basically just waved it off like Rean would just pull through it no issue when in reality it just enforced the notion he wasn't doing enough for the people around him which caused Elise to just finally snap and give him some needed perspective. On that note, with his issues are something tackled by Rean's experiences with Class VII (and interactions with people outside of it) as a whole rather than a single individual. It's ignoring the greater picture by simply condensing the matter to a single person. Alisa talks about one thing, Crow talks about another, Jusis also talks about another, etc etc... basically. If we actually had to go into it then Crow and Elise are the ones who do the most in said regard. I also find it curious you'd refer to empathizing with one another over shared troubles and mutual goals of finding themselves as generic platitudes when most of Laura's events again basically just boils down to her wondering how good a swordswoman she is. Yeah, Rean's a swordsman too, but he doesn't let it dominate his lifestyle the way Laura does. He actually has things to do and ponder about outside of it which Laura rarely if ever does. Some of her events are nice granted but Laura overall feels incredibly static and one-note to actually capitalize on it.
@@1Tekkaman There's also the whole boob faceplant introduction, where she slaps him in the face for something that was never his fault. He was trying to catch her and ensure she wasn't hurt, yet ended up in that position, yet she slaps him and holds a grudge against him until the first field study. It's a cheap attempt at creating awkwardness and unnecessary and typical tsundere 101. There's also Emma who could be a good romance option
@@davidtimmer596 I don't blame Alisa for her initial reaction given the sheer embarrassment. Nor even for how long it takes her to apologize. Where I take issue is how she keeps bringing it up long after it's been settled. There's also her tendency to act possessive before it's possible to even hint at a relationship; in Nord, for example, she gets snippy at Rean buying someone a souvenir until he clarifies that it's for Elise. And even leaving all that aside, Alisa is too much of a firebrand. I would argue that given his history and issues, Rean needs someone with a calm disposition. That pretty much leaves Laura and Emma, and while I agree Emma is a viable option, IMO Laura understands him better.

True.
Alisa, like most of class VII, is multilayered and beliveable.
She's not a tsundere caricature and is actually open to Rean most of the time.
