I’m 21 right now, turning 22 in a few months. I can remember little teenage me just wishing some day I would feel okay. That day has finally come. Listening to this in 2023 is mindblowing. Twenty One Pilots has played such a huge role in my life. It's been almost 8 years since the first time I heard one of their songs. I'm so incredibly grateful to have been able to grow and learn from Tyler and Josh.
I clearly remember sitting in the bus going to school, listening to this song and staring out of the window at the greying sky above me. And it's a nice memory, I was feeling a little less lonely that day.

This band found me when i was 12yrs old and heavily suicidal. This song saved my life too many times to count. I was a kid navigating an abuser leaving me and undiagnosed BPD, DID, GAD, and Bi-Polar. I never thought i'd make it to my 13th birthday, and here I am, 19yrs old, having been with my therapist for a year, going to college for my dream career, and with a new amazing job that's super accommodating. There are still so many bad days, but now the good ones are catching up to outway the bad ones. I used to read comments exactly like the one I'm typing now, sobbing and hoping I could make it, even just through the night. I was so jealous of those other commenters, but now I'm where they were. This band and the Clique saved my life, and even though I don't listen to them every day, or even once a month, I will never forget what those two weirdos from Cleveland, OH did for me without even knowing I exist. If you've read this far, and you're like me, how broken I felt when I found this band, please know that it can get better. I'm here if you need to reach out and talk to someone. I didn’t discover TOP until last year, but they nail touching on mental illness, and they never fail to touch my spirit while reminding me there is hope and helping me to be grateful for how far I’ve come! 9 years ago I was a freshman. Parents divorced, and home was a warzone between my siblings especially my older brother. 9 years ago he tried to bond with me through music and showed me a song. It was an abstract song called kitchen sink by a band I had never heard of twenty one pilots. 9 years ago a bond was made through music and healed a wound caused by betrayal and envy. A bond so powerful I can't listen to the song without thinking about the unprecedented healing it brought to my life and family. 9 years ago I was in the same room as my best friend confused at what I was listening to and now, now there is nothing confusing about it. My brother is my best friend and my family, my family I wouldn't trade for the world. Twenty one pilots, you saved me from becoming a monster. And so did you Jake, if you ever see this comment, you did alright and I love you for it.

This hit way harder than it was supposed to. As an older brother, there’s nothing more that I want than to have a bond with my siblings. Especially my brother. I haven’t been the best, I always was the stereotypical older brother, I was kinda mean and sometimes I’d take it a little to far and if there’s a way I could take it back I would. We’re all older now, and I want to heal a rift that I made. I wish I could share my music with my brother. I wish he got it like I do. I’ve tried to pass what I like and share it with him. Just as he’s tried to do with me. I think we’re doing okay but it could be better. All I can do is be there for him. Just know that even though I picked on him, he’s still my brother and my family. Nobody messes with my family.

This song is such a masterpiece. The lyrics ‘go away’ ‘leave me alone’ really personifies exactly what it feels like to have severe depression. As a person who has suffered depression I know exactly what it feels like. ‘Don’t leave me alone’ I feel is to describe what it’s like to have depression/suicidal thoughts and being scared to be left alone- alone to dwell on your negative thoughts and potentially harm yourself. The feeling of hearing this as a 22 year old and discovering there songs like this is unmatched. I remember clearly how depressed I was and having them as a spark of hope. I remember how heavy I felt everyday just to go to school.. I do not miss those times but I do miss listening to this album and others on cloudy days. I was obsessed and drawn in and I prayed I would be saved.

I used to listen to this band back in middle school. This and the song Addict with a pen were my favorite, but for some reason I stopped catching up with their new stuff. I come back to this song a year through college, approximately 6 years later. I went to the bathroom and somehow remembered this melody. I just can't help but smile that this song still resonates the same way it did for me back then. Going to middle school, highschool and to be standing where I am today, meeting new people and going places where I never thought I would go.... Man, I'm so glad I got the help I needed for my mental health, otherwise I wouldn't have had the opportunity to live this. And this is only but the beginning. Things really do get better. Twenty one pilots may never know the impact they've had for me but I will be forever grateful for their work.

i was 14 when i first listened to this. it's crazy to believe i was suffering so harshly at 14 fucking years old. until discovering these guys, i thought i lived alone in my agony. to hear someone articulate what you're feeling, something so strong and confusing, it was freeing. when i had no words, this band did. it's like they spoke for me. i can't describe it, even today. 7 years later, and although i can use my voice now, this band never left me.
i wrote at the top of my desk at school "go away, go away, leave me alone, leave me alone..." and at the bottom i wrote "don't leave me alone ! ". my teacher saw it and actually searched the song up on youtube and the next day she came up to me and said that she was still there even though she was only a teacher. a truly amazing woman.

She gave me her number, said she new what I was going threw and looked up the music. The next day I found a not saying " I'm so sorry, I have cancer. Please, get help from someone and promise me you will never commit," and signed it. At the end of class I promised. Every time a suicidal thought comes to mind, I think of her and twenty one pilots.
I love the resolution of " leave me alone, leave me alone, DONT leave me alone" makes me think of someone on the edge of a building going to jump, friend trying to talk his down, and when he screams don't leave me alone, I feel that he takes a step to go off but someone pulls him back from the edge and just holds them as they scream/cry.
It’s great to see how far they have come now. I will be seeing them live this year for the Clancy tour, which feels so unreal. And it’s all because I’m alive and here right now. It’s been 8 years with them now

I was in the hospital,for suicide recently. When I was still getting treatment for what I had done to myself (took about 100 Tylenol) There was this girl in the next hospital room beside me. she had cancer and she was like don't feel bad for me. I was in the room beside her for 5 days. she died the 4th day and the 3rd day she showed me this song.now everytime I hear it I just cry so much. I just remember the moments we had. So ig I'm better now. Suicide is not a thing mainstream media wants to talk about! If you need help, call a emergency number or the suicide Hot line. I almost didn't call until I called my councilor and she told me to call 911. if I waited,my liver would of failed and I would be dead. I am so grateful for my councilor and the support for mental health in 2017.

A few years ago I would listen to this and shatter like a piece of glass. This song paints the perfect description of how I use to feel. This was the only thing I had, music. No one will fully understand my connection with this song, especially through the darkest times. Now, I listen to this feeling grateful, cause if I hadn't let this song stop me from all the things going on in my head, I wouldn't be here. I’ve personally always thought it was him saying “leave me alone” to his loved ones because he doesn’t want to be a burden, is in denial that he needs help, feels weak for asking for help, etc. but the “don’t leave me alone” is how he really feels deep down inside. Even though he tells people to go away and pushes them away, he actually wants them to do something, it’s just hard for him to admit that to both himself and other people.
He probably says "leave me alone" to loved ones too because that's who he is( he likes dealing with his demons alone), but at the end of the day, he says "don't leave me alone" in all the built up angst, like the best way to deal with your demons is with a loved one.

i started listening to top back when i was 16. reaaally loved them, and they helped me cope through a very tough period of my life. after a while, things got better, and i didn’t follow them as much anymore. plus their newer stuff wasn’t really my cup of tea. today, i am 23 years old and life has changed so much. life was going so good, but after the whole lockdown and a lot of personal problems, i relapsed. it’s been a long and hard journey honestly. one of top’s song came on spotify shuffle today, and i swear.... it was the most comfort i’ve felt since the past 2 years. i didn’t knew how big of an impact they had on me. been listening to their discography on repeat this whole day. it feels weird, that after 7 years their music still means so much to me

I'm 24 now and gosh, I have so much to be grateful and proud of, especially for keeping my strength somehow back then. Life can be a box of surprises to all of us and not always we have to know what to do. Here's the actual meaning of Kitchen Sink, from Tyler himself. It's a long story, but it's worth reading, believe me... "I feel like, our generation of people, we struggle with some things. We struggle with a lot of suicide and depression, and-- not that I claim to be any sort of professional on those topics, but. What I found out is those two issues are really centered around the idea of purpose. What's the purpose? Like, what's the point? We have a lot of questions-- big questions, right? And we don't have the answers to those questions. And that can really discourage us as young kids that are wanting answers to questions. So I found out... it's like, how can I create purpose for myself? Because I feel like if I had purpose, I'd be able to conquer these two things. And I found, through art, that you can create the beginning of purpose for you. Not all purpose, because that's just, such a huge thing. But the beginning of purpose can be found by creating something that only you understand. For example, in your darkest hour, when you're trying to figure out whether or not it's worth it to stay alive or just to give up, if you have something that you've created, and you know that you're the only person on this earth that can explain that thing, then that can be the thing that you hold onto, and that can be the thing that can help you get through that moment of... your darkest hour. So for me, something happened to me at a kitchen sink, it was very... it was awesome, it was good, it was emotional, it was great, but the point is, I use that moment to help me get through my tough times because... the point is, I'm not gonna tell you what happened at that kitchen sink. Kitchen sink to you is not a kitchen sink to me. Because, I like to use that moment as... "You know what, if I explain what exactly happened here, then everyone knows and then it kinda loses its ability to help me and justify staying around." @@KristieDawn_ Hey did you know you can download a song nowadays and let your Spotify to have access to your sound files in your phone and then you can move the song files from the Spotify playlist "local files" to your own personal playlists, making it possible to add pretty much any song to your Spotify playlists. There's two things tho you should take into consideration. Downloading music for free is always wrong but since this album hasn't seen an official release, they are not getting any revenue from it anyway anymore, so I guess it's down how you feel about it personally. Second one is that one of the reasons songs like this are so special is partly because we don't have access to it all the time since it's not on the streaming platforms. I have personally ruined a couple of really special songs by making them accessible with the "local file" thingy and ended up overlistening to them. Sorry for such long reply, I'm not good at writing only the main points.

Now years later, I'm going into my second year of university working towards a degree I'm passionate about, I have a stable job that I love, I'm in a committed relationship of three years, and life could not be better for me. It's honestly so crazy how much this band helped me when I was younger. I was maybe around 13 years old when I really got into them. The way I was so obsessed with them is actually insane. I laugh at it all, now that I'm 19 yrs old. The cringy videos, twitter posts, poems, drawings, comments, and letters. Everything I did because of this band makes me laugh so much because this band and their music allowed me to live like a normal kid. I was going through so much and I honestly can't even remember most of it, but this band gave me a childhood I can laugh and be happy about and I am so very grateful. I hope that I can continue with that joy into adult life even if I've stopped listening to them for a few years now. They've equipped me with the tools to handle myself and the scary world out there. Honestly what I say aloud and what I meant...
This band found me when i was 12yrs old and heavily suicidal. This song saved my life too many times to count. I was a kid navigating an abuser leaving me and undiagnosed BPD, DID, GAD, and Bi-Polar. I never thought i'd make it to my 13th birthday, and here I am, 19yrs old, having been with my therapist for a year, going to college for my dream career, and with a new amazing job that's super accommodating. There are still so many bad days, but now the good ones are catching up to outway the bad ones. I used to read comments exactly like the one I'm typing now, sobbing and hoping I could make it, even just through the night. I was so jealous of those other commenters, but now I'm where they were. This band and the Clique saved my life, and even though I don't listen to them every day, or even once a month, I will never forget what those two weirdos from Cleveland, OH did for me without even knowing I exist.
If you've read this far, and you're like me, how broken I felt when I found this band, please know that it can get better. I'm here if you need to reach out and talk to someone. You're worth it, you're loved, you're valued, you're enough

It was an abstract song called kitchen sink by a band I had never heard of twenty one pilots. 9 years ago a bond was made through music and healed a wound caused by betrayal and envy. A bond so powerful I can't listen to the song without thinking about the unprecedented healing it brought to my life and family. 9 years ago I was in the same room as my best friend confused at what I was listening to and now, now there is nothing confusing about it. This hit way harder than it was supposed to. As an older brother, there’s nothing more that I want than to have a bond with my siblings. Especially my brother. I haven’t been the best, I always was the stereotypical older brother, I was kinda mean and sometimes I’d take it a little to far and if there’s a way I could take it back I would. We’re all older now, and I want to heal a rift that I made. I wish I could share my music with my brother. I wish he got it like I do. I’ve tried to pass what I like and share it with him. As a person who has suffered depression I know exactly what it feels like. ‘Don’t leave me alone’ I feel is to describe what it’s like to have depression/suicidal thoughts and being scared to be left alone- alone to dwell on your negative thoughts and potentially harm yourself. The feeling of hearing this as a 22 year old and discovering there songs like this is unmatched. I remember clearly how depressed I was and having them as a spark of hope. I remember how heavy I felt everyday just to go to school.. I do not miss those times but I do miss listening to this album and others on cloudy days. I used to listen to this band back in middle school. This and the song Addict with a pen were my favorite, but for some reason I stopped catching up with their new stuff.
I come back to this song a year through college, approximately 6 years later. I went to the bathroom and somehow remembered this melody. I just can't help but smile that this song still resonates the same way it did for me back then. Going to middle school, highschool and to be standing where I am today, meeting new people and going places where I never thought I would go.... Man, I'm so glad I got the help I needed for my mental health, otherwise I wouldn't have had the opportunity to live this.

i was 14 when i first listened to this. it's crazy to believe i was suffering so harshly at 14 fucking years old. until discovering these guys, i thought i lived alone in my agony. to hear someone articulate what you're feeling, something so strong and confusing, it was freeing. when i had no words, this band did. it's like they spoke for me. i can't describe it, even today. 7 years later, and although i can use my voice now, this band never left me.

". my teacher saw it and actually searched the song up on youtube and the next day she came up to me and said that she was still there even though she was only a teacher. a truly amazing woman.

I was in the hospital,for suicide recently. When I was still getting treatment for what I had done to myself (took about 100 Tylenol) There was this girl in the next hospital room beside me. she had cancer and she was like don't feel bad for me. I was in the room beside her for 5 days. she died the 4th day and the 3rd day she showed me this song.now everytime I hear it I just cry so much. I just remember the moments we had. So ig I'm better now. Suicide is not a thing mainstream media wants to talk about! If you need help, call a emergency number or the suicide Hot line. I almost didn't call until I called my councilor and she told me to call 911. if I waited,my liver would of failed and I would be dead. I am so grateful for my councilor and the support for mental health in 2017.

A few years ago I would listen to this and shatter like a piece of glass. This song paints the perfect description of how I use to feel. This was the only thing I had, music. No one will fully understand my connection with this song, especially through the darkest times. Now, I listen to this feeling grateful, cause if I hadn't let this song stop me from all the things going on in my head, I wouldn't be here. I wouldn't see my brother go to college, I wouldn't make my new most awesome friends, I wouldn't be my school sport's champion last year, I wouldn't be an honor student, I wouldn't see my father get accepted in his now new job. Without this song, I wouldn't be who I am now.

Even worse when you think , what if his demons also reside in his family
I’ve personally always thought it was him saying “leave me alone” to his loved ones because he doesn’t want to be a burden, is in denial that he needs help, feels weak for asking for help, etc. but the “don’t leave me alone” is how he really feels deep down inside. Even though he tells people to go away and pushes them away, he actually wants them to do something, it’s just hard for him to admit that to both himself and other people.
He probably says "leave me alone" to loved ones too because that's who he is( he likes dealing with his demons alone), but at the end of the day, he says "don't leave me alone" in all the built up angst, like the best way to deal with your demons is with a loved one.

i started listening to top back when i was 16. reaaally loved them, and they helped me cope through a very tough period of my life. after a while, things got better, and i didn’t follow them as much anymore. plus their newer stuff wasn’t really my cup of tea.
today, i am 23 years old and life has changed so much. life was going so good, but after the whole lockdown and a lot of personal problems, i relapsed. it’s been a long and hard journey honestly. one of top’s song came on spotify shuffle today, and i swear.... it was the most comfort i’ve felt since the past 2 years. i didn’t knew how big of an impact they had on me. been listening to their discography on repeat this whole day. it feels weird, that after 7 years their music still means so much to me

17 years old me has so much to thank to Tyler Joseph and everyone else who's had his back and helped him somehow just so he could be there and write all these amazing songs, especially this one. I'm 24 now and gosh, I have so much to be grateful and proud of, especially for keeping my strength somehow back then. I know you, reading this, can keep your strength too and hold on to the little good thing(s) you have and can still have in life. Life can be a box of surprises to all of us and not always we have to know what to do. Remember this: One step at a time, one day after the other, nice and easy and if you ever feel like screaming your lungs out to feel relieved or something like that, let it all out in the best way you find to do that, you can draw or sing or punch some pillows or cry. All of this helps reminding us that we're humans after all and that it's okay to feel like that. Here's the actual meaning of Kitchen Sink, from Tyler himself. It's a long story, but it's worth reading, believe me...
"I feel like, our generation of people, we struggle with some things. We struggle with a lot of suicide and depression, and-- not that I claim to be any sort of professional on those topics, but.
What I found out is those two issues are really centered around the idea of purpose. What's the purpose? Like, what's the point? We have a lot of questions-- big questions, right? And we don't have the answers to those questions. And that can really discourage us as young kids that are wanting answers to questions. So I found out... it's like, how can I create purpose for myself? Because I feel like if I had purpose, I'd be able to conquer these two things.
And I found, through art, that you can create the beginning of purpose for you.
Not all purpose, because that's just, such a huge thing. But the beginning of purpose can be found by creating something that only you understand.
For example, in your darkest hour, when you're trying to figure out whether or not it's worth it to stay alive or just to give up, if you have something that you've created, and you know that you're the only person on this earth that can explain that thing, then that can be the thing that you hold onto, and that can be the thing that can help you get through that moment of... your darkest hour.
So for me, something happened to me at a kitchen sink, it was very... it was awesome, it was good, it was emotional, it was great, but the point is, I use that moment to help me get through my tough times because... the point is, I'm not gonna tell you what happened at that kitchen sink. Kitchen sink to you is not a kitchen sink to me. Because, I like to use that moment as... "You know what, if I explain what exactly happened here, then everyone knows and then it kinda loses its ability to help me and justify staying around."
So, you don't know what a kitchen sink is to me. But it has to do with purpose, and it helps me."

@@KristieDawn_ Hey did you know you can download a song nowadays and let your Spotify to have access to your sound files in your phone and then you can move the song files from the Spotify playlist "local files" to your own personal playlists, making it possible to add pretty much any song to your Spotify playlists.
There's two things tho you should take into consideration. Downloading music for free is always wrong but since this album hasn't seen an official release, they are not getting any revenue from it anyway anymore, so I guess it's down how you feel about it personally.
Second one is that one of the reasons songs like this are so special is partly because we don't have access to it all the time since it's not on the streaming platforms. I have personally ruined a couple of really special songs by making them accessible with the "local file" thingy and ended up overlistening to them.

These lyrics mean so much to me, because it's saying to just _do something_.
And it really annoys me when songs with such beautiful and meaningful lyrics (often by bands such as Panic!, Fall Out Boy and TOP) are deemed as emo and weird, yet songs about sex are perfectly acceptable. These songs, these words, have meanings and they're not appreciated enough.

It's honestly so crazy how much this band helped me when I was younger. I was maybe around 13 years old when I really got into them. The way I was so obsessed with them is actually insane. I laugh at it all, now that I'm 19 yrs old. The cringy videos, twitter posts, poems, drawings, comments, and letters. Everything I did because of this band makes me laugh so much because this band and their music allowed me to live like a normal kid. I was going through so much and I honestly can't even remember most of it, but this band gave me a childhood I can laugh and be happy about and I am so very grateful. I hope that I can continue with that joy into adult life even if I've stopped listening to them for a few years now. They've equipped me with the tools to handle myself and the scary world out there.
