Perhaps a silly question. But with knocking down a house with an existing mortgage in order to rebuild, does the cost for the new build gets added to the balance of the existing mortgage and thus you end up with a larger mortgage? Thanks

I know this was a while ago... but typically, the lender will not let you knock down the house, since that is the collateral for your loan.

Thank you, this was very insightful. We are located in VIC & currently have tenants in the property. I’m struggling to figure out how long in advance of build start (say Feb 24) would I need to get the tenants to vacate the property & how to coordinate everything so that I get whatever is possible done while they are still at the property. My goal is to reduce the time the property stays unoccupied as it would be out of pocket costs for me. Thank you
