i honestly just met this man today and wow the testimony he told was incredible. he spent 36 weeks in solitary confinement because if he took a step outside that box he would have been killed. he began reading the bible and books after books explaining the scripture and he also had a Walkman listening to preachers preach, and listening to the word of god. and as the bible says, god has a plan for all of us.

Lol. The interviewer was actually good and had some interesting questions/comments. A lot of the interviews on youtube are real "fan" /softball interviews. This one is a pretty tough interview, probably because it's done by an actual reporter. Franzese answered them well as usual, but I really liked the interview.
My story is similar. We didn't have a "Mafia," in Australia---but we had something worse, and I was a fully paid up gangster and a member of the Federated Ship Painters and Dockers Union of Australia. If you were a member of the P&Ds, you had it made. We had a reputation as hired hitmen, murderers, thieves, armed robbers, drug dealers, extortionists, we casually committed so many Felonies that I, personally, stopped counting by age 23. I'd been accepted as a member at 20yr old. It was virtually impossible to break into this particular Union, as you had to have a long criminal record and served time in prison just to be eligible to join. You had to have two very well connected P&Ds to vouch for you and, if you were very lucky, you might get in. You see, we didn't want informers or dogs as members. You had to keep your mouth shut, no matter what. If there was a shooting ( which was common amongst P&Ds), you saw nothing, heard nothing and said nothing. Our code of silence was taken seriously by all members, and NEVER once did any Painter & Docker give evidence against another P&D. In 1982, there was a Royal Commission into the alleged Criminal activities of the Painters & Dockers Union, but not even one P&D cracked or broke the code of silence in the Witness Box or anywhere else. Some P&Ds were charged with Contempt of Court and received a heroes welcome when they got to jail, but the Union took very good care of our brothers in jail, and frequently passed the hat around to look after our Comrades in Prison. After the Costigan Report into the alleged criminal activities of the P&Ds, a few members were fined, but the fines were paid by the Union. If for some reason, a Comrade couldn't work---the Union passed the hat around for him. I saw this happen on a number of occasions, and everyone chipped in at least $50. In Brisbane, the P&Ds had about 90 members, most of whom were- like myself--- incorrigible criminals. If a member was in Jail, he didn't have to pay Union Dues and would get any job he chose as soon as or whenever he was ready to get back to work. We only worked casually, so the money was great. For those who didn't want to work, they just took their Roster Number off the board. This roster was arranged so that those who wanted to work could get as much as he wanted--- and those who didn't have to work didn't have to do a thing, as long as they paid their quarterly Union Dues. I loved the flexibility this gave me, but when there was a large vessel in the dry dock, I would put my roster no' on the board, as there was always a lot of overtime and the money was great---we even got taxis to and from work, no matter how far we had to travel. We really had it made, and whatever there was to steal, we stole as much of it as we could. It really is a great life, and I still cannot believe- given my lifestyle---that I've lived to be 50yo. Nobody, myself included, believed I'd live to be 30, and I was constantly running hot. Every day was a party, and that's how we treated it. If we needed money, we just went out and robbed some more. About 80% of my mates from that period are dead. But, the "Life," was intoxicating and very hard to get out or break free from it. I'm a writer now, but I'm still living "the Life." I read everything I could find about JTR, and even speculated about whom he really was. And, 40 yrs later, I am still not persuaded that my conjecture was mistaken. I have always had an abiding interest in Forensics too, which came in very handy when I embarked upon my career of crime as soon as I was expelled from high school. But the nature of my crimes were entirely devoid of fiduciary accumulation. They were senseless and inane, possibly a manifestation of my pent up fear and rage. With respect to the nature of some of my earlier "work," when you have a habit of destroying property, as opposed to stealing it, it is a very clear indication that the ships' Captain is highly disturbed. I committed such an abundance of crimes against the type of people I so thoroughly despised, such as successful businessmen, people with expensive cars, anybody who had something I wanted but, due to my profound hatred of authority, was not in a position to obtain or earn it myself. I had so much pent up rage and contempt for humanity that I so frequently resorted to this kind of senseless conduct. I was a very malevolent, vicious and sadistic individual who got my kicks out of hurting others. I was so full of anger and hatred that I gravitated toward others like myself, who also had such hatred and contempt for authority. Needless to say, we quickly developed a ganglike mentality. I very much respect the fact that this man turned his life around and is trying to now positively influence other people's lives, but make no mistake, the reason he never testified against anyone is because he still fears for his life and his family's life...not because he "doesn't believe it's his job to help the government put people in jail" or out of some noble principle he is interpreting from "Bible scripture". The main reason why many mobsters "flipped" and chose to help the FBI and law enforcement over the last 30 years is because they were strictly looking out for their own butts in trying to get plea deals and reduced sentences. This man was no different as he agreed to forfeit millions upon millions of dollars in restitution and fines in addition to his jail sentences he served in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Tony K. You can't really blame him though. At this point in his life all he just simply wants is to just live for his family. Plus I think testifying against the mob for him would be the final nail in the coffin for him and his father's relationship. Mr Millard -- given the criminal lifetime of thuggery, extortion, robberies, money-laundering, horrendous murders and body dismemberments that John Franzese, Sr is personally responsible for, I strongly doubt that he could be convinced to "come to Christ" or if that is even remotely relevant at this point. He is now 100 years old and is awaiting release from prison on June 25, 2017, which is a miscarriage of justice unto itself. If there were true justice, he would be forced to serve the rest of his life in prison until he eventually expires. More convincingly, it would be better argued that John Franzese Sr's best "life achievement" is that he is currently the oldest federal prisoner in the US and probably the oldest surviving federal prisoner in American history. Congrats to him. I am sure Christ is waiting for him upstairs in Heaven to give him a gold medal for that.
I'm likely sounding naive but people can surprise us Tony. Michael certainly surprised a lot of people when he left the mob and became a Born Again Christian. We Christians just simply have a hope for people that can change. Even John Franzese is capable at his age. I hope my comment didn't snap any nerves or anything.

But I don't feel that subject area is even relevant as it pertains to Mr Franzese Sr's history. He is a life-long career criminal and murderer who would be incapable of meaningful change, restitution, rehabilitation or feelings of remorse at 100 years of age. I only ask that as you read the remainder of this comment, please have an open mind and allow me to share with you a piece of evidence: In my view the strongest piece of evidence is Jesus' resurrection. Jesus' existence is a historically established fact. Even non-Christian scholars agree on this. We actually have 12 distinct extra-biblical sources from the time period of Christianity's earliest days to confirm this, both Roman and Jewish (one of which I’ll quote at the end of this reply). They were against Christianity, yet their sources give credence to the existence of its central figure. As such, the Christ-Myth theory is complete rubbish and no serious historical scholar takes it seriously. The historical consensus is that Jesus did indeed exist. The proof of The Christian God hinges mainly on the resurrection. In order to prove this we need to establish a) Jesus was indeed dead and b) he was alive again later. One of the gospel writers was also one of Jesus' 12 apostles, John. He was present at the crucifixion. He describes the stabbing of Jesus lung as a sudden outflow of blood and then water - this is exactly how an uneducated laymen would describe the rupturing of the pericardial sac, giving credence that his death was authentic. The Romans too were very thorough in their executions, which is why they stabbed Jesus to make sure he was dead. Jesus could not have faked it. Historically, the Jews circulated the story that Jesus' disciples had stolen the body. This was not only addressed in the gospel of Matthew, but in the second century Justin Martyr recorded that it was still being circulated in his day! There would be no need had the tomb not been empty. But the disciples could not possibly have stolen the body. Pontius Pilate sent out a detachment of Roman soldiers who took shifts day and night guarding the tomb, so as to prevent anyone from stealing the body. A Roman guard was a group consisting of 10 to 30 soldiers. They took shifts day and night, so there was never a time in the days before Jesus' resurrection that the tomb was never being watched - they would have seen the disciples approach. Even if they were asleep the stone, weighing about 3 or 4 thousand pounds would have needed to be pushed by multiple of Jesus' followers to have a chance of being moved; so they would have been seen, heard struggling and the heavy stone heard moving, arrested and killed. This did not happen. This leaves us with the fact that the disappearance of Jesus' body from the tomb could not have happened from an outside source coming in. It had to have happened on the inside, where only the dead Jesus lay. Hence, we can conclude he was resurrected. Giving further credence to this is that 10 of the 11 remaining (after Judas' betrayal) disciples were executed because of their Christian faith, as attested confidently by historical sources. To quote Sean McDowell of Peter: ''The early, consistent and unanimous testimony is that Peter died as a martyr;" and of the martyrdom of the disciples as a whole: "It shows the depth of the apostles’ convictions. They were not liars. They truly believed Jesus rose from the grave and they were willing to give their lives for it." They needed only to deny their faith to be saved, but did not. Would you seriously die for something that you know wasn't true? These men died fully believing in their contact with the risen Christ. Some have theorised that they merely had hallucinations, but this isn't true for 4 reasons: 1) The theory does not explain the empty tomb 2) Multiple people shared in group-visions of Jesus 3) They had group-conversations with the risen Christ 4) They touched Jesus and ate with him, which is impossible with a hallucination. The gospel of John speaks of Thomas physically touching Jesus' wounds to prove to himself he was real! Another evidence was Paul's conversion. Luke (as said, a first-rate historian) records in the Book of Acts that Paul persecuted the early church before being converted after seeing and talking with the risen Jesus on the road to Damascus. This was also confirmed by Paul in his own letters, in which he also expresses his deep remorse at persecuting God's church, saying he doesn't even consider himself worthy as an apostle after the way he persecuted early Christians (see 1 Corinthians 15:9). He hated them, then he became arguably their most influential apostle. Historians report that he too was martyred for his faith. This would not have happened had he not encountered the risen Jesus. In one of Paul's letters to the church in the early days of Christianity, First Corinthians (Chapter 15 for reference), he speaks of Christ's post-resurrection appearances to people (over 500 in total), even encouraging the Corinthian church, if they don't take his word for it, to speak to the people who saw the risen Jesus if they don't believe - that they may have mental assurance of his resurrection. If the resurrection was something he and the other apostles made up he would not encourage believers to speak to people who could discredit the apostle's claims. And consider this, that the someone did not just sit down and write the bible. 4 independently written narrative sources (the gospels) and even more letters from different authors such as Paul and Peter, are consistent on this fact of Jesus' resurrection - with secular sources testifying of the earliest Christians' convictions of the resurrection as a fact - to the point they died for their beliefs. If we take all of these together it becomes clear that Jesus rose from the dead, which would be impossible unless it was a miracle of God. i honestly just met this man today and wow the testimony he told was incredible. he spent 36 weeks in solitary confinement because if he took a step outside that box he would have been killed. he began reading the bible and books after books explaining the scripture and he also had a Walkman listening to preachers preach, and listening to the word of god. and as the bible says, god has a plan for all of us.

Lol. The interviewer was actually good and had some interesting questions/comments. A lot of the interviews on youtube are real "fan" /softball interviews. This one is a pretty tough interview, probably because it's done by an actual reporter. Franzese answered them well as usual, but I really liked the interview.
My story is similar. We didn't have a "Mafia," in Australia---but we had something worse, and I was a fully paid up gangster and a member of the Federated Ship Painters and Dockers Union of Australia. If you were a member of the P&Ds, you had it made. We had a reputation as hired hitmen, murderers, thieves, armed robbers, drug dealers, extortionists, we casually committed so many Felonies that I, personally, stopped counting by age 23. I'd been accepted as a member at 20yr old. It was virtually impossible to break into this particular Union, as you had to have a long criminal record and served time in prison just to be eligible to join. You had to have two very well connected P&Ds to vouch for you and, if you were very lucky, you might get in. You see, we didn't want informers or dogs as members. You had to keep your mouth shut, no matter what. If there was a shooting ( which was common amongst P&Ds), you saw nothing, heard nothing and said nothing. Our code of silence was taken seriously by all members, and NEVER once did any Painter & Docker give evidence against another P&D. In 1982, there was a Royal Commission into the alleged Criminal activities of the Painters & Dockers Union, but not even one P&D cracked or broke the code of silence in the Witness Box or anywhere else. Some P&Ds were charged with Contempt of Court and received a heroes welcome when they got to jail, but the Union took very good care of our brothers in jail, and frequently passed the hat around to look after our Comrades in Prison. After the Costigan Report into the alleged criminal activities of the P&Ds, a few members were fined, but the fines were paid by the Union. If for some reason, a Comrade couldn't work---the Union passed the hat around for him. I saw this happen on a number of occasions, and everyone chipped in at least $50. In Brisbane, the P&Ds had about 90 members, most of whom were- like myself--- incorrigible criminals. If a member was in Jail, he didn't have to pay Union Dues and would get any job he chose as soon as or whenever he was ready to get back to work. We only worked casually, so the money was great. For those who didn't want to work, they just took their Roster Number off the board. This roster was arranged so that those who wanted to work could get as much as he wanted--- and those who didn't have to work didn't have to do a thing, as long as they paid their quarterly Union Dues. I loved the flexibility this gave me, but when there was a large vessel in the dry dock, I would put my roster no' on the board, as there was always a lot of overtime and the money was great---we even got taxis to and from work, no matter how far we had to travel. We really had it made, and whatever there was to steal, we stole as much of it as we could. It really is a great life, and I still cannot believe- given my lifestyle---that I've lived to be 50yo. Nobody, myself included, believed I'd live to be 30, and I was constantly running hot. Every day was a party, and that's how we treated it. If we needed money, we just went out and robbed some more. About 80% of my mates from that period are dead. But, the "Life," was intoxicating and very hard to get out or break free from it. I'm a writer now, but I'm still living "the Life." Hello GB. Great to hear from you again. We seem to have common interests. I have always been interested in serial killers, even as a child. At 12yo, my hero was Jack the Ripper. I read everything I could find about JTR, and even speculated about whom he really was. And, 40 yrs later, I am still not persuaded that my conjecture was mistaken. I have always had an abiding interest in Forensics too, which came in very handy when I embarked upon my career of crime as soon as I was expelled from high school. But the nature of my crimes were entirely devoid of fiduciary accumulation. They were senseless and inane, possibly a manifestation of my pent up fear and rage. With respect to the nature of some of my earlier "work," when you have a habit of destroying property, as opposed to stealing it, it is a very clear indication that the ships' Captain is highly disturbed. I committed such an abundance of crimes against the type of people I so thoroughly despised, such as successful businessmen, people with expensive cars, anybody who had something I wanted but, due to my profound hatred of authority, was not in a position to obtain or earn it myself. I had so much pent up rage and contempt for humanity that I so frequently resorted to this kind of senseless conduct. I was a very malevolent, vicious and sadistic individual who got my kicks out of hurting others. I was so full of anger and hatred that I gravitated toward others like myself, who also had such hatred and contempt for authority. Needless to say, we quickly developed a ganglike mentality. I very much respect the fact that this man turned his life around and is trying to now positively influence other people's lives, but make no mistake, the reason he never testified against anyone is because he still fears for his life and his family's life...not because he "doesn't believe it's his job to help the government put people in jail" or out of some noble principle he is interpreting from "Bible scripture".

Mr Millard -- given the criminal lifetime of thuggery, extortion, robberies, money-laundering, horrendous murders and body dismemberments that John Franzese, Sr is personally responsible for, I strongly doubt that he could be convinced to "come to Christ" or if that is even remotely relevant at this point. He is now 100 years old and is awaiting release from prison on June 25, 2017, which is a miscarriage of justice unto itself. If there were true justice, he would be forced to serve the rest of his life in prison until he eventually expires. More convincingly, it would be better argued that John Franzese Sr's best "life achievement" is that he is currently the oldest federal prisoner in the US and probably the oldest surviving federal prisoner in American history. Congrats to him. I am sure Christ is waiting for him upstairs in Heaven to give him a gold medal for that.

I was an agnostic for most of my life. When I was 17, I started searching for the truth regarding God and whether or not he existed. I researched Atheism, Christianity, and Islam as well as learning of a few others for about 6 months. By the end the conclusion was clear: Jesus Christ is the only truth. I only ask that as you read the remainder of this comment, please have an open mind and allow me to share with you a piece of evidence:
In my view the strongest piece of evidence is Jesus' resurrection.
Jesus' existence is a historically established fact. Even non-Christian scholars agree on this. We actually have 12 distinct extra-biblical sources from the time period of Christianity's earliest days to confirm this, both Roman and Jewish (one of which I’ll quote at the end of this reply). They were against Christianity, yet their sources give credence to the existence of its central figure. As such, the Christ-Myth theory is complete rubbish and no serious historical scholar takes it seriously. The historical consensus is that Jesus did indeed exist.
The proof of The Christian God hinges mainly on the resurrection. In order to prove this we need to establish a) Jesus was indeed dead and b) he was alive again later. One of the gospel writers was also one of Jesus' 12 apostles, John. He was present at the crucifixion. He describes the stabbing of Jesus lung as a sudden outflow of blood and then water - this is exactly how an uneducated laymen would describe the rupturing of the pericardial sac, giving credence that his death was authentic. The Romans too were very thorough in their executions, which is why they stabbed Jesus to make sure he was dead. Jesus could not have faked it. Non-Christian scholars agree that he indeed died on the cross. To quote a JEWISH scholar - Pinchas Lapide: ''Jesus' death by crucifixion is historically certain.'' The MUSLIM Scholar Reza Aslan said: “Islam doesn’t believe that Jesus was crucified. Jesus was most definitely crucified.” The ATHEIST scholar Gerd Ludemann: “Jesus’ death as a consequence of crucifixion is indisputable.” Another JEW, Paula Fredriksen says: “The single most solid fact about Jesus’ life is his death”. Even Bart Ehrman, arguably the most well-known ATHEIST critic of the scriptures says: “One of the most CERTAIN FACTS OF HISTORY is that Jesus was crucified on orders of the Roman prefect of Judea, Pontius Pilate.”
Historians agree that the tomb was indeed empty, for various reasons. The belief in Christ's resurrection is dated soon after his death. To quote James DG Dunn, speaking on the resurrection: "This tradition we can be entirely confident was formulated within months of Jesus' death." If the tomb wasn't empty then the Jews and Romans, noticing the fast spread of early Christianity, would have either removed the body and hung it at the city gates (in the case of the Romans) or encouraged the early Christians and the Jews around them to take a look at the body in the tomb. But this didn't happen, because the tomb did not have Jesus in it.
Secondly, Jesus' tomb was first discovered empty by women. Women were viewed very lowly in first-century Palestine (First-century Jewish scholar Josephus wrote that the testimony of a woman could not be trusted, the predominant attitude among the Palestinian men at the time under the false guise that they were naturally mentally inferior). Yet the gospels, and in particular the gospel of Luke (whom archaeologist Sir William Ramsay said: "should be placed along with the very greatest of historians'') attributes a woman as the first witnesses. If Christ's resurrection were false and the early Christians wanted the people of their day to believe he was risen, they would have attributed the initial witness of Christ's resurrection to a man. The reason they didn't is because they wanted to record as accurately as possible the events that occurred - the true resurrection of Jesus.
Historically, the Jews circulated the story that Jesus' disciples had stolen the body. This was not only addressed in the gospel of Matthew, but in the second century Justin Martyr recorded that it was still being circulated in his day! There would be no need had the tomb not been empty.
But the disciples could not possibly have stolen the body. Pontius Pilate sent out a detachment of Roman soldiers who took shifts day and night guarding the tomb, so as to prevent anyone from stealing the body. A Roman guard was a group consisting of 10 to 30 soldiers. They took shifts day and night, so there was never a time in the days before Jesus' resurrection that the tomb was never being watched - they would have seen the disciples approach. Even if they were asleep the stone, weighing about 3 or 4 thousand pounds would have needed to be pushed by multiple of Jesus' followers to have a chance of being moved; so they would have been seen, heard struggling and the heavy stone heard moving, arrested and killed. This did not happen. This leaves us with the fact that the disappearance of Jesus' body from the tomb could not have happened from an outside source coming in. It had to have happened on the inside, where only the dead Jesus lay. Hence, we can conclude he was resurrected.
Giving further credence to this is that 10 of the 11 remaining (after Judas' betrayal) disciples were executed because of their Christian faith, as attested confidently by historical sources. To quote Sean McDowell of Peter: ''The early, consistent and unanimous testimony is that Peter died as a martyr;" and of the martyrdom of the disciples as a whole: "It shows the depth of the apostles’ convictions. They were not liars. They truly believed Jesus rose from the grave and they were willing to give their lives for it." They needed only to deny their faith to be saved, but did not. Would you seriously die for something that you know wasn't true? These men died fully believing in their contact with the risen Christ.
Some have theorised that they merely had hallucinations, but this isn't true for 4 reasons:
1) The theory does not explain the empty tomb
2) Multiple people shared in group-visions of Jesus
3) They had group-conversations with the risen Christ
4) They touched Jesus and ate with him, which is impossible with a hallucination. The gospel of John speaks of Thomas physically touching Jesus' wounds to prove to himself he was real!
Another evidence was Paul's conversion. Luke (as said, a first-rate historian) records in the Book of Acts that Paul persecuted the early church before being converted after seeing and talking with the risen Jesus on the road to Damascus. This was also confirmed by Paul in his own letters, in which he also expresses his deep remorse at persecuting God's church, saying he doesn't even consider himself worthy as an apostle after the way he persecuted early Christians (see 1 Corinthians 15:9). He hated them, then he became arguably their most influential apostle. Historians report that he too was martyred for his faith. This would not have happened had he not encountered the risen Jesus.
In one of Paul's letters to the church in the early days of Christianity, First Corinthians (Chapter 15 for reference), he speaks of Christ's post-resurrection appearances to people (over 500 in total), even encouraging the Corinthian church, if they don't take his word for it, to speak to the people who saw the risen Jesus if they don't believe - that they may have mental assurance of his resurrection. If the resurrection was something he and the other apostles made up he would not encourage believers to speak to people who could discredit the apostle's claims.
And consider this, that the someone did not just sit down and write the bible. 4 independently written narrative sources (the gospels) and even more letters from different authors such as Paul and Peter, are consistent on this fact of Jesus' resurrection - with secular sources testifying of the earliest Christians' convictions of the resurrection as a fact - to the point they died for their beliefs.
If we take all of these together it becomes clear that Jesus rose from the dead, which would be impossible unless it was a miracle of God. Please consider this, and may The Lord show you the way my friend. Amen.

What can we learn from this ancient reference to Jesus and the early Christians? Notice, first, that Tacitus reports Christians derived their name from a historical person called Christus (from the Latin), or Christ. He is said to have "suffered the extreme penalty," obviously alluding to the Roman method of execution known as crucifixion. This is said to have occurred during the reign of Tiberius and by the sentence of Pontius Pilatus. This confirms much of what the Gospels tell us about the death of Jesus.
