We Accidentally Camped in Big Bend National Park | Taxa Mantis Off-Roading

  • After no luck with our next planned boondocking campsite, we accidentally found ourselves in Big Bend National Park. To be honest, it was our first time camping in a National Park with the Mantis and we were completely clueless. Fortunately for us, there was a vacant site open but with the Park Ranger repetitively stating, “It’ll be an adventure...” it got us wondering what sort of adventure we were getting ourselves into.

    I bet sometimes you think you might know what kind of video your going to be doing and then life just throws you a curve ball! Great job on rolling with it and coming out with a swing and a hit! Love the string cheese dogs! LOL

      You are so right! We do often think we know what we're going to record but life happens. These two dogs keep our lives interesting! ☺

    Next time just wait until the sun goes down and camp anywhere out in the back country. Chances of being seen are slim.

    That road to Big Bend was making me nervous! 😰 Glad you guys made it to see the beauties it had to offer!❤️

      It made us really nervous too! We've done a lot of off-road camping but not on a road as rocky and long as this one. The drive back the second time around was a lot better since we knew what to expect.

    Would like to hear what you guys do re: RV/camping security measures - maybe have an episode covering that alone? Thanks

      Sure! We'll put it on our list of video ideas in the future. Thanks!

    I would have gotten a mile or two down that road and then said "Here's good", and set up camp :D

      That's the very reason why we got the Mantis but this road never seemed to end! I swear it went on for forever. 🤣

    Is this an overland Mantis?

    What kind of camera equipment are you guys using? Drone model? iPhone?

    • @DustTheNation
      @DustTheNation  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We have the Mavic Air 2 for drone footage and film most of the vlog footage on our Android phones. We also acquired a gimbal for this second trip and it makes the footage SO much smoother! For camera footage (when we're not lazy) we use a Panasonic G85.

      Oh, and I almost forgot! We sometimes use a GoPro Hero 5. It really depends on what we're doing and what kind of footage we are aiming to get.

    Very scary adventure there guys! Loved your mask protocol. Would you go back to Big Bend? Did you get the electronic breach sensor sorted out? Very cool on the bear siting, took me years and years to see one in my favorite primitive camp site. You two have extreme courage going down that rough road towing the Mantis! Thumbs up from Iowa Joe. (Soon to be Illinois Joe). Safe travels....

      We absolutely would love to go back to Big Bend some day! We didn't get to experience it fully, being camped so far away from the main road and having to take our dogs along which meant no long hikes for us. The carbon monoxide sensor went out as soon as we aired out the Mantis so it was definitely confused. We're happy to have survived the adventure and don't plan on repeating that drive anytime soon. 😅

    Was it hard to get the Autowbrake working again?

    • @DustTheNation
      @DustTheNation  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not at all! Just a simple process syncing and we were good to go.
