    "avoid risking life and limb, and especially your $5000 bike"
    In that order.

    not a serious cyclist but I can tell you when you're overtaking someone in other sports you should try to stay around 85-90% and save that last 10-15% if they are trying to catch up and are about to. this is when you boost ahead with that last 10-15% and take that last wind out of their sails....or you realise you bit off more than you can choose and you still have some energy left to keep pace.

    Could you guys talk about rocking the bike on sprints and climbs in a future video!???

      thatswhatsup95 use your upper body to push yourself to the side on each pedal stroke. Lifting one side pushing down the other. All comes down to practice.

    Whatever you do, don't follow the Yowapeda guide to sprinting.

      Certainly good for the exercise.... start your sprint 5 miles out and maintain that 95% threshold for the distance.

      Keep a good rythm is one of the best keys. I'm not an expert or pro. But proper rythm is a must for any endurance

    Crank length largely determines your sprinting performance. If the cranks are too long, it's impossible to get low enough for a fast sprint. The lowest, most aerodynamic rider tends to overall be the fastest sprinter. The optimal crank length also makes it easier to recruit the largest, most powerful muscle in the body- the gluteus maximus. This is mainly why Mark Cavendish wins so often despite being at such a huge weight disadvantage. I owe all of my podium finishes to having the optimal crank length because at 137 pounds, a rider my size would normally lose at dead flat courses/sprints, but since I can get my chest to the handlebars, I can drastically reduce my drag and hit very fast speeds. Whenever I fit competitive cyclists on their bikes, crank length is the first thing I focus on and I determine it accurately through mobility/ flexibility tests and not trial and error.

      EatSleepTrain Smart what crank size do you use? do you have any rule to find the right crank size?

    • @EatSleepTrainSmart
      @EatSleepTrainSmart 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** I use a 170mm. Based on the cyclists I've fitted, a few patterns I've noticed is that excessively long cranks sacrifice steady state efficiency for accelerations. It also causes riders to ride out of the saddle very often (mainly due to the tendency to hold a lower cadence). Excessively short cranks improve steady state efficiency, but sacrifices torque for accelerations, so you'll feel the need to spin faster to accelerate. Going too short also tends to keep riders in the saddle more often. When the cranks are too short and you're out of the saddle, you'll get a sensation where it feels like the power phase of pedal stroke gets cut short. This is a large reason why riders tend to stay seated with excessively short cranks.

    • @NikoxD93
      @NikoxD93 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Based on this I think my crank lenght is pretty balanced (172.5). But I might try some shorter cranks for time trial efforts and see if it makes any positive difference. Interesting subject.

    I'm an 80 kg sprinter, my bike is about 8.5 kg, and I can sprint about 45 km/h. If I lose some weights, can I sprint faster?

    • @sth6027
      @sth6027 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not neccessarily, it's all about muscle and aerodynamics in sprinting as far as I know. + muscles are heavier than fat.

    GCN has mentioned before that British races, with breakaways to the finish common, are different from other races, where breakaways get reeled in and then a bunch sprint happens. Why is this? Why is British racing so different?

    • @gcn
      @gcn  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      peter gentle the British races have smaller teams, so it's much more difficult for them to control a race and bring it all back in the end.
