    No reason to buy a Prius anymore. You can drive the hell out of the new Camry Hybrid SE and still get 40mpg+ combined. The LE Hybrid uses the new lithium-ion battery which is most fuel efficient & also very comfortable riding, if that suits you best. You really can't lose buying the all new redesigned Camry Hybrid.

      shinkuflame lol! for me I wouldn't die and I don't even needs any screen in my car but when you have that option and choose to used any car GPS or apple/Google/Waze maps (accurate on traffics, road closed, most updated point of interest) you'd know why Car play/Android auto are better. Also try talk to car voice system then Siri or Google to control your phone. I gave up "talking" to my Toyota...

      Use the big ass screen on your console for maps, or pay $1000+ for the trim that has navigation that does the exact same thing your phone has built in?

    Amazin car for sure. Sold my previous car to get the Le hybrid because I was looking to get the max fuel economy I could get. Le comes with a bigger better battery for greater fuel economy. I'm able to average 50mpg after my break on each tank and am super pleased. Car is fun to drive, peppy and doesn't feel underpowered for mh long daily commute. Such a fun, comfortable and practical car. You honestly do forget it's a hybrid. I didnt even care that the car didn't have navigation, even with the base model for 2020 Toyota gives you car play and android auto so I just use Waze from my phone and project it on the screen. Way better and faster. Also much better than standard navigation systems on most cars.

    When reviewers say it has a CVT you're doing a disservice to the Toyota hybrid drivetrain. A CVT is a regrettable feeling rubbery bandy transmission because it's shifting metal bands. These Hybrids have no bands, they use the motor generators to amplify torque and control the engine RPM and they respond as fast as you'd expect a fully electric system to do so, and they last forever.

    I bought a new 2019 Toyota Camry SE yesterday. I love the classic shifter as opposed to other
    manufacturers who get fancy with the automatic shifter and you have to learn where the P/R/N/D is located;
    Buttons in Honda are even worse because you can't shift by feel. I don't like Honda's turbo lag, high
    maintenance CVT, noisy interior, and stuckon iPad as the center console.

    I don't get the whole onboard Nav thing. I'd rather have a $100 portable unit like a Garmin.
    First, I save all that money. Second, I only have to fool with the Nav. when I need it. Third, I can use a single Nav system for both my cars, instead of spending a bunch of money for that in multiple cars.
    Also if the nav gets way downlevel due to tech changes, I can just get a new $100 portable NAV, and be current for each car again.

      Roger Geyer When you have been in Camrys with and without the JBL audio it's not even a question of whether or not to spring for it. Unless you're one of those people who gets their panties in a twist when someone turns it up over 10. For my parents they're just fine without the JBL audio, for me, it is life.

    The blue with the sports trim is just 💙👌🏻🙌🏻. If I had to buy one right now though I would go for the XLE hybrid in white because it's the most visible on the road, but I would also consider this gorgeous blue color. Such a shame that they don't put the brighter red on the highest end Camry Hybrid XLE, and instead opted for a muted red that is less visible to other drivers. The black interior with the leather is gorgeous as well.

    Great Review Sir. I am happy to hear this. I actually have 16 Camry Hybrid and would like to upgrade in the spring. One question I have though is the cruising range from a full tank. My car holds 17 gallons of gas. According to Toyota's website, this new one holds 13. From a full tank, can you tell me how many miles (kilometers) the trip computer reads.

    It’s just surprising to see how toyota revamped this current gen camry. The biggest factor now to consider camry over accord are the NA motors in the camry. I think this factor alone is enough to lure a lot of knowledgeable potential buyers...especially that 300 hp V6😋

It's gets great MPG and it most likely will be most reliable car and not to mention you can get over 300hp in the V6 ? 2021 got all the upgrades you mentioned at the end of the video except the rear heated seats and rear vents which they should have included, as well the new Toyota Camry hybrids use the lithium ion battery which is lighter and enables more battery up time vs the nickel metal hydrate battery.

  • @azaz911c
    @azaz911c 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Zack, I'm in the target demographic for this Camry, and I think this car looks fantastic from the front (0:03) and inside (1:41) and pretty good from the back (0:09), especially in SE trim in Blue Streak Metallic. It's interesting to look at, without being over-styled or bizarre. In comparison,the Accord looks a little boring, even though its interior material quality might be higher. I do not care about smartphone integration, since I'm happy with AM/FM, and aftermarket navigation systems, which I find superior to phone-based maps. I'd probably forego the hybrid option since the 4 cylinder's fuel consumption is already reasonable, and I'd prefer not to worry about possible battery issues if the car is owned beyond the hybrid component warranty, even though that is 8 years/ 160,000 kms and Toyota hybrids are generally reliable.

    Don't understand why they put the better battery (lithium-ion) on the cheaper model. I always get the xle fully loaded version and now the fully loaded has the old battery that gets less mpg. Makes no sense

    • @lockergr
      @lockergr 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I'm actually going to call Toyota and ask about that. I'm hoping to be about five years out from another car purchase so hopefully by then they will have sorted things out. I would be one hundred percent comfortable still with buying the new model because the interior is absolutely gorgeous.

    • @Lucky8s
      @Lucky8s 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Toyota uses a Li-ion battery in the base model because it lacks many of the more expensive features found in the higher trims, so it makes sense, cost wise, to include a better battery.

    Right on the money about Toyota missing the mark without having Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. While it doesn't impact the driving experience, I really do like Apple CarPlay as a feature - it's become a go-to one for many others too. It's actually a easy determining factor to go Accord instead of Camry when both cars are really solid and comparable in many other ways.

Also can use the car screen or voice input (by siri or Google) to control your phone map/phone/most music apps instead of looking into your phone are safer too.

      you dont need carplay or androidauto to control map, music or calls. What is the expected life of the battery?
    Toyota says they give 8 years or 160000 KM (which ever comes first) but what happens if the battery breaks after 160k KM?
    I read somewhere that it costs about 5000 USD to replace it!!
    That would throw all the savings that I would save over 10 years (regarding fuel compared to regular 204 HP 4 cylinder camry)

    • @billtillo
      @billtillo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      its very rare that you need to replace the batteries, they last for 30 years. I work for toyota and we have a prius in our showroom that has 1.2 million kms on it and still the original battery

    • @lockergr
      @lockergr 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The battery on my 07 died out about 3,000 miles past the 100000 mile mark, which means it was out of warranty. They gave me the battery about half off because of that. That means I can drive this thing for about 15 to 17 years.

  • @QuentinQuatermass
    @QuentinQuatermass 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice video, very informative! As much as I hate to say it, if you want a Camry hybrid you really should look at the LE hybrid which gets much better gas mileage than the SE hybrid plus has the better battery. Maybe there's a way to remove the LE catfish front end and graft on the SE front end? ;-) Anyway, I went with the 2019 Camry SE non-hybrid since it gets excellent fuel economy (almost as much as the SE hybrid) plus has the 8-speed automatic transmission instead of a CVT. I couldn't justify paying the full hybrid premium while getting in return a "lesser" hybrid - it's just not worth sacrificing the money and 8-speed AT.

    I believe one of the reasons Toyota is not going with Android Auto or Apple Car Play is because they see long term value on all the data those apps collect in terms of how you use your vehicle. They want to keep and use that data, likely for things like self driving cars and such. I do agree they should improve their offering if they want to capitalize on all that data.

    Zack, I know you might find this hard to believe but the hybrid's get their best fuel economy around town as half the time they are on electric motor. They get their worst fuel economy on the highway where the petrol motor kicks in. This is why most of Taxi's world wide are running Toyota Hybrids. No way are you averaging 7.8L/100 km around town. You should be getting around 4.2L/100 Km around Town with the Toyota Prius Hybrid's often get under 4L/100 km around town.

    its too bad you cant get the upper trim levels with the better performing battery. no matter what they say, it makes no sense. the lion battery has higher energy density, its lighter weight, it can discharge harder with less stress, it can charge faster making regenerative braking more efficient, it performs better in every way. there is no reason to put the old nikel metal hydride battery in any modern hybrid. these are the batteries we used 10 years ago. im guessing they have a warehouse full of these old batteries, thats going to waste, and in order to recoup some lost money, they are using these batteries as a crafty way of getting rid of old stock. when im in the market for a new car, i want my money spent on the best i can get, the best tech available. i dont want to buy a new car in an upper level trim, and go backwards - just to help an auto manufacture clear out some warehouse. they are loosing customers, and taking advantage of those who dont know any better. why not give the option to the customer? - ill tell u why - its because no one would want the old lesser performing battery. if anything they should offer it in the base trim, to customers looking to save money. and the upper trims should get the newer battery type. its a real shame, and a poor choice i think thats going to hurt thier sales, for that part of the market thats educated and know what they want. when im in the martket to buy a hybrid, if i cant get what i want from toyota, ill go to another mfg. and by the way, every other mfg is offering up the best available tech for 2018 - toyota is the only one thats including the old nickel batteries in a 2018 model. all others use the lipo / lion batteries. its a shame, im hoping when im ready, that i can get a camry hybrid LE , the better battery, and maybe work something out with the dealer to get some of the upper trim level options still. that would be the only way i would buy one. its a real shame, its otherwise my favorite hybrid on the market. i feel like these massive auto companies are resorting to shady tactics to push thier products. i mean look at ford, they straight lied about the epa ratings on every hybrid they offer, and have been forced to change many of its epa ratings, to a more accurate and honest rating. i mean dont these companies know, that in todays modern world of business, that doing crap like that is just hurting themselves, it invokes distrust. i would never buy a ford- they should have let them go out of business. thats what u deserve when u make inferior products and lie to the buying public. i really feel toyota is being shady also, buy trying to make people think that their is a legit reason they should include the nickel metal hydride batteries in the upper trim 2018 camry hybrids. there is not. they are doing it because it makes them more money. not because it offers some performance abilities that enhance the cars performance. its a step backward. and the more people that become knowledgeable about this., the more customers they will loose. i promise, i would like to see the look on the face on the guy at one of the big meetings, when he has to explain that sales are down. i hate to say i todoe so, but u know what, i todoe soe, i friggin i todoesoe

    Everything is good except mpg. Toyota claim 44 city 47 highway. But its does not hit those no evers. I drive 80 miles everyday on freeway it barely touch 42.. i notice i you drive a 20 mile trip it does not even hit 40.. so toyota need to be honest to tell mpg..

    Those artificial 6 speeds are a gimmick, Camry will perform better without them. Acceleration is slower with those, not the other way round. And using CVT as a term when talking about Toyota hybrid drive train, always annoys me a little. Average person watching these videos do not understand that you are just referring literally to "Continous Variable Transmission". Average person think about traditional CVT with belts and whistles...and problems. The way they function is totally different in favor of Toyota hybrid drive, it's a bulletproof concept that should be appreciated by someone paying his or hers car themselves.

    Toyota jacked the price of all the camrys up wayyyyy to much! $40,000 for a loaded Camry? GTFOH

    • @RKO859
      @RKO859 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      $40,000 you cant even buy a Komfort Audi A4, which has no navigation, minimum driver's assist feautures, also a much shittier MMI 6 inch screen. Name me a 40K luxury mid-size sedan with everything loaded. Let's not even talk about luxury brands. Go look at a fully loaded Kia Optima or Honda Accord all fully decked out, what are their prices?
      Everything is going up in costs. Inflation, costs of production and labour. What are you expecting, 20K for a loaded Camry?

    • @ro0ster648
      @ro0ster648 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really, I paid $1660 more for my 18' SE with convenience and blind spot monitor package than my mom's base 11' LE back in 2011. For 25k OTD, it has a lot of new safety features. Go to a BMW dealership and look at base 320i with a sticker price of $35k or a base Mercedes CLA, they don't even have power driver seats nor back up camera. The same goes for Honda, Hyundai, Ford and all the other non luxury brands. They are packing a lot of features in their higher end models, way more than the luxury cars in the same price range. They do it because there is a market for it. A 40k Camry gets u a LOT, bird's eye view camera, heads up display, v6 engine, panoramic roof, and a ton of safety tech.

      Jack: To me that's one of the impressive things about the Camry. I got a 2017 with everything I wanted (sunroof and SE edition) for only a little over $20,000 17 months ago. People want SUV's, so they'll really deal on sedans.
      Why in the HELL do I want to pay $40 grand for a bunch of stuff I don't need? I'd far rather have the difference invested, and have it pay for my next car in 10 to 15 years.

    Important fact not mentioned....the scout app costs money after 3 years. That’s why people want android auto or apple CarPlay. Who wants a second rate app through entune and then pay on top of it. Plus...plan on driving to the US? Ya scout doesn’t work there according to my local Toyota dealer. Terrible. Bought a VW instead and this infotainment system was a major factor pushing my away from Toyota.

    Apple Car play and Android Auto? Whats the big deal? Does he realize that almost all the manufactures that offer it force you to also plug your phone into the usb jack to get it to work? We need it to be wireless! BMW now offers wireless Apple Car Play on some of their cars, now that's more appealing. Besides, most of us will just spend $10 and get a phone cradle and use our Navigation in our phones, its faster to input addresses and the screens are usually clearer.

    1.5L inline-3 twin turbo makes exactly the same horsepower while giving constant torque and increasing fuel efficiency almost 50%, especially on hwy. That engine when connected with hybrid tech will reach 60mpg easily.

    They didn't even try on the back...they just drew some lines, added a cliche LED light swish to it, and stuck it on the back. The interior is very unappealing, especially compared to the new Camry...

      The Story of Ai / my issue with the Infotainment is the resolution quality. I'm more concerned that there's no manual transmission available on the Camry. However going back to the subject, The positive thing about this infotainment is that it's UNIX based, which is what Apple Play and Android Auto run on, a very easy add for Toyota to do in the future . Also, growing up I learned how to program and code test in UNIX, which means it's super customizable.
