He looks great in combined mode. I bought the set for the individual bot modes. I think that is where this set shines. Just my personal opinion.
Thanks to my viewers for pointing out a lot of these things I missed the first time around. I'm really loving this figure now.
I just got my Vortex today and finished my Bruticus. I'd already accepted what I thought were lack of bicep swivels and was fine with it, but damn thankyou. They're totally there, theyre just really tight and hinded by the surrounding plastic.

Imo this is the definitive Bruticus, I know a lot of people like the Zeta because of the height but the arms are inverted and they're the wrong color, plus the chest is more of the g1 toy look. I rather have this just because he looks more like the g1. As always great review.

@@anthonyortiz4254 no, what I mean is that the Zeta shoulders at the top of the arms are facing the wrong directions. If you look at the cab section of right arm is facing in towards his head, its supposed to be facing outward and on the left arm the top of the tail is facing inward towards the face as well. That's what I meant, happy Thanksgiving:)
According to the Sunbow diagram, you are wrong. The unique toys version wins for individual bots, but zeta wins hands down in combined mode.
My guess is that the alternate chest piece is supposed to be the "toon accurate" bit of the whole figure.
If you want 90 degrees of bicep swivel in either direction, you have to break up the arm sculpts a bit. For Blast Off, you have to separate the shuttle's upper section. It leaves a gap though, with only the nosecone hooking the section into place. For Vortex, the bicep swivel works better, but you might need to angle out or separate the helicopter's upper section a bit for more movement.
cadsux Thanks. I saw that was possible but didn't think it was worth breaking the sculpt to get swivel.

Which toy does the "cartoon accurate chestplate" come from? Specifically the part that looks like Blast-Offs windshield? Is that a part of the Blastoff toy or does it just come with Blast-Off as an extra piece that happens to look like his windshield?
It's blastoffs canopy and wings combined with engines from vortex. In theory you could make it with just blastoff alone

Great update video. Very informative. Toy world or Zeta toys Bruticus is going to be good however this version also has its merits in my opinion if you were to take the onslaught from Zeta and the unique toys version of the Combaticons of put them together in my opinion you would have the perfect Bruticus.

Looks way better with the legs collapsed. The other reviews I've seen for this really did the figure an injustice.
GibDozer1 For sure. Reviews are all biased so it's a matter of opinion. I try to be fair but I know I have my own bias too.
Late to the party with this guy, but damn - the biggest issue with this set was the instructions, it just leaves so much out. I can 100% understand why other reviewers missed some of this stuff (although the split back-cannons thing IS in there, for one brief step). Plenty stable enough set once everything is all tabbed together, and no need for the BS fake legs.

I had his legs extended without realising that they collapse down, and the skinny thighs were the only thing that I didnt like.
Then I had a closer look at the instructions, and noticed that they can be shortened, and he looks so much better!
I'm not a stickler for toon-accuracy, but I definitely prefer the orbiter-cockpit-chest and added hip-skirts.
I didnt find that the instructions were unclear for that part of the process, but there is the occassional step that is overlooked elsewhere.
I've been using Blastoff's gun as an underslung grenade-launcher, but I will have to try sticking it on the muzzle of the combined weapon.
Also, if you find that the front section of Blastoff isn't quite fittting snugly in vehicle mode, the reason is two tabs that have to wedge into too small an opening. I used a craft-knife to widen the slot, and now there are no unsightly gaps.
Vortex's weapons are definitely the biggest let-down. They even seem to be made from a shittier type of plastic. They will probably go permanently into a spare-parts box.
Overall, I love this set. Not cheap, but I was unimpressed by the Zeta effort. Robots too kibbly, Brawl's tracks ridiculous, ugly feet on Swindle, colours too intense, etc.
I hope UT do Defensor next. They have proven that they do contemporary vehicles well.
Drew Lovelyhell Ya I was also kind of disappointed with the leg stability until I found the collapsing thighs. Did you buy Zeta or you just referring to pictures?
I was very tempted to get the Zeta versions, mainly because of the price, and Blastoff looked okay, (but way too chunky in robot mode).
But Vortex was revealed, and his feet looked bad, so I waited.
I didnt like the colours of the remaining three, or Swindle's wedge shaped feet etc...
On the other hand, I snapped up UT Swindle and Brawl right away.. they nail both modes and I was commited to buy the whole set at that point.
I had no problem with Onslaught, (though others had complaints,) but Vortex and Blastoff have a few issues.
The size is just right. Toyworld Constructor is a little too big, (though who said all the combiners had to be identical heights?) which is forgivable because he is made of huge construction vehicles.
I have no regrets about my UT Combaticons. I give them a 9/10.
I'm getting the Zeta Aerialbots, and the X-Transbots Stunticons too. (They're cheap).
Drew Lovelyhell Sounds good. I'm going for the xtransbots menasor too. I currently have no Autobot combiners so I need a really good set to compete. Zeta had some minor qhality issues with their first two jets so I'm gonna wait to see how it turns out. Combined mode looks great tho.
I like the Zeta jets. They are quite hollow due to the nature of their transformation, but look great in both modes.
And unlike Maketoys Meteor, they don't have tail-fins that are constantly being knocked out of place.
They don't feel "premium", but they are affordable.
Fanstoys' version of Superion looks like it might be awesome, but it will probably come to $600+ for the set, which is just too much for me.

Toe Tagz I wasn't saying he missed the swivel. I said he missed a few things like how to store the extra chest parts on the waist. Everyone is entitled to their opinion including Bobby, but for me this is the better set. Buy whatever you prefer.
