the reason us people who live in Woodstock like me like the movie groundhog day so much is because of how small our town is and i being in a movie where bill Murray is the star just makes us feel happy like we did something right!
Trust me people who live in the town don't relive the movie everyday, I think part of putting the plaques up was to just tell out of towners to search them out instead of having to explain where each one is
Charm abounds in this little town built into a hill. Historic landmarks, an Opera House where Paul Newman and Orson Wells got their start. There are Bed & Breakfasts, and an old Railway Museum with a Campground. The movie house went under a grand renovation and addition and The original theater was just renamed and dedicated to neighbor and director of 'Groundhog Day' Harold Ramis. There is a Dick Tracey Museum also as he was a resident of Woodstock. There is entertainment, cultural and earthy. Food that is cultural and earthy as well. A couple ofnew shops that are dedicated to handmade cottage industry, several kitch shops, diners, restaurants and dives. We still have 2 bowling alleys. One new, one retro (the 6 lane that was in the movie). We have the Challenger Space Center which is an educational field trip venue for the schools and a beautiful renovated Frank Lloyd Wright inspired Library, old victorian homes, and the town square is the jewel.
I know this is old but I found it a fun watch. I've only lived in Woodstock for 14 years, but I love the town. Planes, trains, and automobiles shot here. Also Lovecraft country and I completely missed that other than wondering about the retro billboard. 😆
Seems like a lovely quaint little place. With no disrespect intended, would there be plenty to do if I came for a weekend, or would it be better to wait until the first week of February?
Quite a few restaurants and bars, there's the movie theatre and bowling alley. Your normal small town getup. If you look it up, there are beet fests, st pattys day fest, lighting of the square for Christmas, and other events where parts of the square gets closed down for music, food, and public drinking. There's music on the square every wed in the summer going back over a hundred years and farmers markets every Saturday and I think Tuesday over the summer. Again if you look it up you can find an event taking place worth coming out for.
Starts out a goof in a car saying shitty day. Right about there I figure why watch an uncultured caveman talk badly. Left it on and had some nice info. I would edit out the uncouthness.
