Informative vid. Food for thought. Thank you. Writing from South Africa. Here, it's statistically usual for up to 5 home intruders to hit you. Depending on the stage of proceeding, when you first become aware of the break in, they may, or may not, all be inside your home. This can be lethal. The one that gets you is the one you don't see. Possibly they could get to your kids or family first. Things get really bad here when that happens. These are all scenarios one has to think through and plan for - and prepare for - well ahead of time in the cold, clear light of day. As you say, early warning is the key. Waking up at zero dark 30 with 5 dudes in your bed room will end in only 1 way. You must know they're coming, take up defensive positions (cover, not concealment) and be ready to welcome them. On these shores, two ordeals must be faced: 1. The fight for your life and the lives of your loved ones. 2. The fight (in a court room) for your freedom, whilst your actions are painstakingly disected - shot-by-shot, by arm chair critics with the power to imprison you for the rest of your life.
Know your legal system very well. Know what can, and, is likely, to happen should you prevail in stage 1.
We do not have the Castle doctrine, or the"shall flee" rule here. What we do have is a Bill of Rights and Constitution that puts life ahead of property. Killing in defence of property here will set in motion a chain of legal fall out that you don't even want to think about.
Have early warning systems in place. Insure your property. Have your tribe safely under your wing. Take up a defensive position behind locked doors. Let them come to you. A forced door leaves no room for doubt in the mind of a prosecutor. There was a threat to your life. The threat was in progress. When they entered your room, they crossed the red line. You legally defended yourself. Call it in quickly. Say very little until you have consulted with your defence attorney and taken advice first. Call the ambulance service. This creates a good impression in court. Think all these scenarios through first. Then practise drills to form muscle memory. Stay safe. Stay alive. Stay free.
Retired LEO here. Keypad locks on exterior doors, ready-to-go firearms within reach throughout the home, a trained German Shepherd, and two spoiled lap pooches. Be prepared and stay prepared.
Love it. I'm never more than 15 feet from a loaded and in-battery rifle or pistol when I'm home.
Sound concise advice by two professionals
Appreciated 💪🏼👑🇺🇸
Glad to help
I’m new to firearms and just wanted to say I really enjoy your content. It makes the learning curve easier for people like me, when things are explained in a down to earth manner.
You guys are great, keep up the awesome work!
They have an OWL alarm. You place it near doorways and outside around the house. It will alarm ring if anyone passes it. Deff a great help to let home owners know someone is outside at night when sleeping.
Thanks for watching and commenting
As an empty nester, I am a safety click away from a trigger press on my bedside AR and pillow pistol. If I had kids at home, my carry gun would still go from my pocket to my pillow, still in holster of course. My bedside AR would be unloaded with a magazine in a ready action safe during the day and under my pillow at bedtime.
Thanks for watching
We don't have kids in the house anymore so I keep two firearms loaded and chambered at all times ready to go. We live very rural with a county road going right by our home. More than once we've had a knock on the door in the middle of the night where someone has ran out of gas or they got stuck in the woods riding around in the lease land across from our land. That's a scary feeling, especially if they're drunk. Handheld lights are a must and a firearm isn't always needed.
Great presentation as always--Thank you!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good advice. Never thought about just defending one position or room , as opposed to your entire home which is almost impossible and high risk. Interesting to hear you’ve got locks on your bedroom door to prevent access.
Mine is sitting on my nightstand loaded and there’s no safety switch except for my pointer finger on my right hand. When I drive for Uber it’s tucked in its holster on my hip loaded there’s a round in every chamber of every gun I own.
Thanks for watching. Stay safe driving out there. 😊
Hornady Rapid Safe…..looks like a clock radio. Love mine.
As always great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you so much for this video. I'm new to this and this was very helpful :)
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching
Good.job
Great info thanks guys
Our pleasure!
Thanks for another great video Kim and Neil. This old dog always learns a new trick. Damn those boats! They got me too 😂😂😂
Very unfortunate
After being able to concentrate on what your video was about (Kim's fault😆) Every "at the ready" pistol we have is kept like you suggest. We do have to safeguard against our 5 year old Grandson's curiosity for a few years till he's taught about firearms but that's our responsibility and it becomes paramount when he visits!
Kim, Neil long time no see and how's the family doing? You guys are putting out some good information that I could use!
Thank you
Great job as always Good video
Thanks again!
It's not about protecting my TV. It's about making the BG think twice about future break ins! I sleep during the day & I'm up all night!
Alarm and camera systems have gotten incredibly good and so much cheaper, there is no reason why you can’t have some perimeter warning.
Layered zone defense.
No children in my house. Locked and loaded and within reach next to the surefire flashlight and the phone.
They are so affordable now. Thanks for watching and commenting
Locked, loaded, leaning against the couch i am sitting on. That is safe keeping.
Thanks for watching
When I'm awake and out of bed, my pistol is always on me or occasionally in a carry bag next to me [ cooking, showering, etc. ]. When sleeping, it's in my carry bag that is at arm's length. I have to sit up to reach it, with my handheld light and phone.
Thanks for watching
I've never owned a gun of any kind and my wife is simply against them. My brother-in-law and I talked about, well if I owned a gun, how could I make sure I do so safely AND, at the same time, have it available if an intruder is breaking down my door. We could never come up with a good answer, so I dropped the idea of having a gun.
To my shock, my wife recently brought up owning a hand gun for self defense. So here I am, doing research. I don't like the idea of a gun having bullets inside, but they're just unchambered (I'm not even sure if I just made sense), but I could see velcroing the ammo to the gun. I want everything in one place so I don't need to go to a closet to get the bullets, then a drawer to get the gun. But I don't want to be yet another one of those stories where a 6 y/o unalives his 3 y/o brother.
Hahaha. I just made a short on my channel on what to do with your gun when you’re on the potty. I used to put on top of the TP, on the floor etc.
Have have a hand gun in a quick access box in living room, same for other end of house in wash room and in my bedroom a 300 AAC pistol in a Shotlock box on wall and each weapon has a light. Finally, since I live alone, if someone was coming into my home at two in the morning I'm pretty sure it is a foe and not a friend

Thank you for teaching an old dog a few new tricks.
Thanks for watching!
Rather have two hands on my firearm and a light attached. Even at low ready (not pointed at a ptoential target being a child or a dog) will light the room up regardless to target identify. Its not a laser its a light, it will light up much more than what you're directly pointing at
My rule is that any gun that’s not in the room with me is locked in my big safe. I don’t like having guns stashed around the house where either a kid or burglar can get to them before I can. But at any given time I have at least a full size pistol in the same room as me, if not a long gun. I keep pistols fully loaded then either in a holster or quick access pistol safe so the trigger is covered. I keep long guns condition 3 typically.
Thanks for watching
If I'm running around my house naked, i wouldn't need a gun **wink** lol perp can't steal when he/she is vomitting and gagging lol great idea for the shotgun. Is it inside of a "box" or just above the door on some sort of mount? I have 12ga I need to replace the seals in and do some shooting (hasn't been fired for about 25 yrs) that I would like to have for home defense but the storage has always eluded me. I just don't have a great space that is accessible for a large safe in the home i rent. We use biometric/coded bedside safes for our handguns and i keep my Olight warrior 3 mini bedside next to my phone, but right now that's all i have in place. Thanks for a great video and reminders to stay prepared.
Thanks for watching and commenting 😂

Hey guys new gun owner (Taurus G3) My safety won't lock with the slide back. Plus my slide won't release with a magazine in it. Have to release magazine then hit slide button release. Am I doing something wrong? Okay just watched a vid on the G3 and the slide release does work with magazine in it. Very hard to do tho, much easier when mag is out. Now if I can figure out about the safety not locking with slide back?? TIA Jay
I don’t own a G3, but have you read the owners manual included in the box or found the PDF online? That may answer some questions. Many firearms are similar in function but can vary by brand, and even then some can still be different then the one you got. If you feel something is wrong with yours, contact Taurus customer support, explain the problem, send videos or picture via email.
Or search TH-cam for G3 specific videos. i.e. “Taurus G3 safety issues” “…slide lock issues” “…slide release issues” “…problems”
Hope you figure it out. I don’t own any Taurus, but over a dozen from other brands. A manual, or searching even “[gun name] table top review” could help. As table top reviews are more hands on with the firearm and break them down. Opposed to reviews that just shoot and review.
Good luck!
EDIT: Also there may be a break in period, say 200-500 rounds before functions of the firearm “break in”. Again that should be in your owners manual.
The discussion is good, but showing actual placement would be great.
would you mind sharing your carry ammo work and conceal and carry? appreciate your videos!
Hornaday Critical duty
@@geaugafirearmsacademy thank you
So how do you store your weapon? Not under pillow, not in sidestand so where?
LMAO, 🤣! LOST ALL MY GUNS IN A BOATING ACCIDENT HE SAYS!
Very unfortunate
Realistically it will probably be the ATF. At 6am sharp..so under the pillow is a great spot..and as soon as your feet hit the floor it goes in the waistband
Okay guys there is a range near me called range USA, I was just wondering if you had heard of them and what you thought of them!
Large establishment many locations very clean.
I live alone so I don't have to worry about all that I got one on me all the time even when I go to the rest room 💯
Safe storage and first aid is excellent. Also if you have term life insurance your insurance company would prefer your TV gets stolen and you remain alive. Don't shoot someone stealing your TV. Pay the deductible, brand new TV.
I store mine within 3ft of me. You’re most vulnerable when you’re on the can, sleeping or in the shower. Guess what? My firearm is always very close to me in disguise.
Do any LEOs believe non violent felons should be allowed to purchase and carry firearms?
If not on body and practice! Its on a magnet next to where I practice! Where i practice grabbing it! ....i live in a blue state and the neahborhoods crime rate has gone up litterly 800 percent!!! Four years ago i could leave my doors open and now when iy step outside it's absolutely normal to find a junkie shitting on the sidewalk or their favorite between my car and my neighbors car!! This shit thats happening is the real deal it's not just the news!! We are in trouble! Si training is more important than ever!!! And its absolutely fun ass can be!! Being safe and practice is awesome!
An excellent "back to basics" overview video! Great job.
(dang...ya'll must have beautiful children)
Thank you!
Nice to see you guys. Nice instructions . Neil your as beautiful as usual. Thanks
Thanks for watching
I have watched your videos for years, even talked with Kim about scheduling a class for my staff before COVID. Great respect for you both but I must say that OPEN BOLT or equivalent is a BAD idea for all except the most vigilant and professional. We all must balance being ready for a threat with daily life. And all people need the right to make such decisions based on their own personal experiences and situations. Government mandates about safe storage are a bad joke. If you live alone and need a hearing aid then a biometric safe is the wrong choice for you!
If you can't teach me to become a ninja in an hour, I just don't know what I am going to do, since my whole safe fell into a sinkhole, and is probably at the center of the earth by now. Great video by the way
Sorry to hear that
Dude looks like a character from lord of the rings! hahahaha I'm sorry I had to say it.
The guy's right arm is much larger compared to the left one. It must be all the weapons he shoots all the time. Yep, definitely the weapons...
never ever have a pistol as ur self defense as ur first choose weapon in ur home but a good revolver, 357 magnum Colt or a SW…pistols might have more rounds but they have few steps to get you ready in the night, use a pistol some where in the house to be used during the day or carry but during the night the revolver is way better
A revolver is a pistol. I think you mean semiauto pistol vs revolver pistol. Aside from that, people are better off to train and become intimately familiar with the gun they plan to use for a self defense situation. Many people cannot afford, or otherwise do not wish to own, multiple weapons. While I’m a fan of revolvers for their reliability, too many of them are double action which can be an issue for novice shooters. Which can be even more of an issue during the middle of the night as they’re half asleep.
My recommendation is to find a firearm you are comfortable operating and train with it. Keep it simple and don’t involve too many fine motor functions to operate it because those skills wont exist when you’re roused from a deep sleep.
😅Well you do you I for one will make Shure it's the last thing you do.
Thanks for watching
whats sad is that Cali Laws make it easier for criminals to have a upper hand when in your home. MEANING if you do go by the laws they put in place. The intruder will have the upper hand. I guess alot of us for our own safety as well as our family members will need to break a law. oops... not sorry. I will protect mine against foreign and domestic
Still waiting on that only fans page 😂😂😂
😂😂
If you have a light, chances are the bad guys will see you before you see them. If you leave the lights off and use night vision (starting around $200) you can own the night and see everything.
Not if you use it correctly, not leaving it on. Thanks for watching and commenting
Tried to listen but too distracted..one gorgeous redhead here, and the display of feminism. There got that off my chest lol
So are you saying a handgun in one hand and a handheld flashlight in the other hand versus both hands on the handgun I think that's misinformation if that's what you're saying and the beam of a weapons mounted light in your house is going to show you exactly what is being illuminated without actually having the barrel pointed at a child or a dog let alone not having your finger on the trigger until you have your Target in your sights?
You are still able to put two hands on a gun with a handheld. There are several holds. Training would teach you both handheld and weapon mounted techniques.
