I have been recently using this camera for filming wildlife, especially in low light and it's performance is excellent. It has so many great other functions too such as time lapse etc.
I feel like I’ve searched your site pretty thoroughly for specific notes/links on how to build the Panasonic battery to cannon dummy battery adaptor for the micro rig (your other micro video). Also the 7.2 output to BM video assist. I’d be happy to buy all parts including the suggested batteries through your site. It’s the least we all can do to say thank you for your creative impute and generosity. Actually I’m surprised that Blackmagic or = has not nabbed you up and put you on their team. You’d be a perfect fit to take their ideas and put them into user friendly, real world applications. Once again, thank you for sharing.
Thank you for posting this. That battery plate is the last piece of the puzzle I needed for my rig. I hate those little Canon batteries. I have a Pelican case full of the things and it is never enough.
Something to consider before you buy: The Battery V-Mount that MrCheesyCam linked and used in the video above is not the only (or best option) for this kind of rig. On amazon, MOVO sells a V-Mount Battery Plate that not only has more options with connecting devices to one battery, but it is $50 more affordable. This mounting plate also has a wide variety of reviews that makes it a more customer friendly option due to the qide amount of FAQ already answered for you. Also, the LP-E6 dummy adapter is removable; therefore, the V-Mount can be used for all sorts of set-ups that do and don't require that specified battery. Another thing to take note of is the build quality. The MOVO mount comes entirely made out of metal, and the look & feel of the mount is much more durable. All in all, I am sharing with all of you an alternative to the listed V-mount Plate that can save some extra bucks and give you more powering capabilities at one time.
I love your rig setup. I like how you covered the lcd with the vmount battery but I’ve heard you can’t get the lcd touch screen menu on any external monitors so you still need access to the lcd screen to change settings like codec and other things. Is that the case with the black Magic video assist?
Thank you for good information and I have a question. Do you have power supply for bmmcc body problem like me? I use Beiilen 190 battery and the body shuts down repeatedly.
Great setup. I traded in my Sony A7'sII for bmmcc and am happy so far, even if only recording to HD, raw DNG HD is the bees knees. Almost went full V-lock battery too, until I took a risk and grabbed the NP-F bridge plate, similar to what you built on here. From that I can power camera, and monitor via one lightweight battery. The crop factor is a super pain however, even with a speedbooster attached. Still, dynamic little camera.
Awesome job with the set up. My V-Mount battery only powers the monitor but doesn't power the camera... I'm trying to figure out how you connected yours
Thanks for all this great infos and ideas. thinkin about buying one used. what happend to those control buttons you showed in the modding video. Do you still use the Micro at all?
This is an awesome set up. I have and use the bmmcc as my main camera. And its a powerhouse. Did you ever have any issues with power surges while using one power source for both the camera and monitor?
Great Video. Im a novice and just purchased the camera along with a Rokinon 85mm 4/3 cine 1.5 lens. However I notice that I get a super zoomed cropped image and the subject has to be VERY far to get into frame. Did I do something wrong?
Really smart rig, thank you for sharing. I have the camera, the cage, a top handle and the same monitor so I’m 1/2 way there. You mentioned that you made your own cable. Does the cable split at some point to power the camera and the monitor off the same d-tap? Did you make your own cable because there is not an aftermarket version? Thank you
Thanks for the video. Since I haven't updated my Video Assist in quite a while, I was getting pretty excited when you mentioned waveform on the 5" VA, only to find out it's VA 4K only. Or did I miss something?
Nice rig! Sort of what I was thinking in my head. Would you still go out and get a BMMCC today with the BMPCC4K out? I have a 4K 24 fps super 35 camera and sometimes I can’t tell 4K from 2K on my 4K monitor. But having BRAW or say ProRes RAW on any new camera system would be great. I was thinking of (after being so unimpressed with all the new cameras that came out in 2019) of getting the BMMCC and hooking it up to a gimbal system. Be like an Osmo on steroids but still small enough to be fun. Do you think that is possible, or is it firmly in the heavy world? Also I’m confused.... did Blackmagic ever get the Micro to EVER have a global shutter working?
Can you explain how you made the d tap to video assist cable. My next purchase will be a v mount solution and I want to power the same monitor as well. Thanks
It is basically two wires RED and Black. You can cut a barrel tip from any old power adapter from other electronics and connect to a dtap adapter. But you can always buy the cable. Lots of companies already make it.
Any words on your experience connecting field recorders through line outputs or shotguns into the bmmcc? Both the bmpcc and bmmcc seem to have a different set up regarding pre amps compared to Dslr. I’v been able to do it but would like your thoughts on it. Thank you.
Does the micro shoot 4k raw? For some reason i can't find this info online... It just says "raw"... Yeah but, 4k raw? Or just 1080 raw like the pocket?
For these Micro cameras, they have one camera that records to sdxc up to 1080/60 RAW. Then they have another 4K camera that has no sdxc, and cannot be recorded to raw. You will need a separate recorder for it.
@@MrCheesyCam thanks! I did some research, never realized the micro "studio" and the micro "cinema" are totally different animals. Always thought one was just the 4k version of the other.
Do you have any issues with the Rokinon lenses being wide open going into the speedbooster? I have the same setup but I can't use any of the rokinons lower than a T/2.0 because they suddenly get a huge magenta shift, bad chromatic aberration, and become so soft that it looks like there are fingerprints all over the lens. I know no lens is optimal wide open and I figured it was just a fault of the lens but then I tested the kit on non-speedboosted cameras like the EVA1 and C100 and none of those things were an issue. Have you noticed anything similar with your speedbooster and lenses not playing well together?
Did you talk about that problem in your Rokinon lens kit comparison? That's really worth a video, particularly for those considering a speedbooster on m43. If I lose a stop anyway, why did I buy that lens other than to one day move off m43 to full frame? I'm basically buying the speedbooster for nothing and might as well go Veydra. Especially if I plan a migration path up to APS-C instead of full frame. Yes, I know it's a T2.2 vs T1.5, but the Veydra glass is better.
This happens because of the speedbooster specifically, not only does it increase light and reduce crop factor but it does this by condensing down the entire light projected by the lens. Without a speedbooster the small s16 sensor would only use the very middle of the lenses optics which is the very best part but also have a horrible crop factor, this is great for old lenses which have a cinematic look but are often weak wide open. As the speedbooster uses the entire lenses image projection then you really will notice it's flaws. it's why the sigma 18-35 is so popular because it has such great image quality with very little flaws.
Just bought that camera, really looking forward to it. One question, is it the EF-BMPCC speedboster or the EF-MFT speedbooster. I heard you couldn't fit the MFT on the BMMCC
EF-BMPCC T Speedbooster. Mine didn't fit at first, but I contacted Metabones and ordered a flange backing plate that fits the BMMCC. This took a while bc customer service is slow, but once you swap the original plate with the BMMCC one it works like a charm. Just be really careful and mindful of the TINY screws when swapping out the backing plates. I accidentally broke a screw the first time, bc there was one so small that I didn't realize it was on there, which resulted half of the screw to be stuck inside the plate. Metabones sent me a second backing plate, but they forgot to thread the tiny screw hole, so the screw didn't stay in. The third time everything came out perfect. It was a big headache, but well worth it. For speedy customer service, go to their website and order what they call a "service request". Then, email them and make sure to include the transaction ID of the service request, pictures of the Speedbooster including serial number, write the serial number itself, and description of what you need (i.e bmmcc flange backing plate for EF-BMPCC T Speedbooster) and your shipping address. The third time, I ordered it this way and it took about a week for the new plate to get to me, since it skips over any back and forth e-mails between you and customer service (this process can take days due to time-zone difference.) Hope your experience goes smooth; you might get lucky and get a Speedbooster that fits right out of the box. If it's too tight to turn, don't force it and order a new plate. Hope this helps. Cheers!
Actually mine is the ‘Micro Cinema’ camera as it records HD RAW and writes to an internal SD card. The other is a ‘Micro Studio’ camera which does 4K, but has no card to write to. You need an external recorder like the Video Assist 4K (larger monitor), and you will not be able to capture in RAW format. - I like RAW...
Thanks so much for your video! I needed a camera for studio use. A camera where I could record my Gospel Music TH-cam shows and promos for my sci fi scripts/novels I am publishing. Don't intend on using the Micro cinema camera for the field. Mainly a webcam/cinema camera.
I did consider buying one of those but I built a remote, it was super cheap even using quality pushbuttons, case, wire, plug and heat shrink and cable.
I am not into this camera at all. Sure, it shoots raw. So what. Only 1080p with an S16 sensor. Give me the Panny G85 @4K or a trueblue GH4 with Atomos any day. Which, for the money you spent on that (very nice) rig, you could buy a GH4 and Atomos no prob. The big advantage of the Micro Cinema is global shutter. For what, whip pans? And if you're considering the GH5/5s and Atomos, consider the Ursa Mini. Which, for the price, is an amazing deal. That's a great camera if you can control set and lighting.
Oh come on. The GH4 is as old as the Micro Cinema and a bit cheaper. You do have to spend for the recorder though to get 10 bit. But at least you get 4K@30p prores. The micro cinema gives you gorgeous raw at 1080p. But what do you need that for? I'm not hating on Blackmagic here. They make some great stuff. And I'm not hating on you or your channel either. I'm watching and wish you well in your productions.
1080 RAW is better than 4K compressed. If you are outputting to TH-cam or other social media 4k is a waste. I would take this camera over a GH5 any day.
I'm thinking about a Ursa Mini-pro.... I've heard that it doesn't get a good job unless you can have perfect lit scene is it true? (because I will film a lot of outdoor, so... it is harder to make de light fits my needs!)
Yes I hope they make some type of announcement at the NABShow this year about a new Pocket Cinema Camera with 4K. It has been too long, and I think they would do really well with a new consumer camera. Best wishes from USA!
Your battery is completely blocking the camera monitor .. as far as I’m aware the HDMI doesn’t output the Camera menus. Keep having to move that battery would be impractical for me.
I have been recently using this camera for filming wildlife, especially in low light and it's performance is excellent. It has so many great other functions too such as time lapse etc.

Just found NP-F bridge from one of your followers so save your comments for someone else, thanks again.
Best compact rig ever.
Hey, love the form factor! Looking forward for a similar setup around a BMPCC 4K.
Thanks for sharing your rig with us. I got this camera earlier this week and found your video while searching for rigging ideas.
Beautiful set up
Impressively compact and powerful!
Very nice rig. I have a similar rig for my pocket cinema camera. Works quite well.
Jelly of this rig. Thanks for sharing!
Nice set up man! Almost looks like a mini RED dragon setup 👌🏻
Thank you for posting this. That battery plate is the last piece of the puzzle I needed for my rig. I hate those little Canon batteries. I have a Pelican case full of the things and it is never enough.
Great video and nice setup!

So cool! What is approximately it's hight and dimensions?
I love your rig setup. I like how you covered the lcd with the vmount battery but I’ve heard you can’t get the lcd touch screen menu on any external monitors so you still need access to the lcd screen to change settings like codec and other things. Is that the case with the black Magic video assist?
Looks great! Does the video assist monitor power the camera through HDMI? How does the vmount battery connect to the camera? Thanks!
Thank you for good information and I have a question. Do you have power supply for bmmcc body problem like me? I use Beiilen 190 battery and the body shuts down repeatedly.
Great video. How did you attach the 15mm rod across the top?
Great setup. I traded in my Sony A7'sII for bmmcc and am happy so far, even if only recording to HD, raw DNG HD is the bees knees. Zach B Interesting battery workaround. Mind sharing how you connect it to the camera, via the extension port or a lp-6 to np-f adaptor?
You can use a Indi pro tools Sony L-series Type Plate, if you have the SONY batteries or similar. This for my purposes is more field portable.
Check out this for the bridge: www.starvingartist101.com/
and
Check out this battery to use with it: www.amazon.com/dp/B01M189SS0
since the battery is so close, how do you access the menu from the original touch screen? or any alternative?
Awesome job with the set up. My V-Mount battery only powers the monitor but doesn't power the camera... I'm trying to figure out how you connected yours
You’ll need a Canon LP-E6 dummy battery with a D-Tap.
Thanks bro
Thanks for all this great infos and ideas. thinkin about buying one used. what happend to those control buttons you showed in the modding video. Do you still use the Micro at all?
I will buying this camera at some point. I am looking at the Aputure Len Regain thing to allow remote focus. Its a bit expensive but looks awesome.
I have it and don't like it. Doesn't work well with my sigma on the bmmcc, while it did on the gh4
Thanks for making out this video. Cool !!!
This is an awesome set up. I have and use the bmmcc as my main camera. And its a powerhouse. Did you ever have any issues with power surges while using one power source for both the camera and monitor?
Nice affordable setup!

Great video! Where do you get your d tap connectors for your custom cables?
How big of a Delta between this and the OG BMPCC?
Beautiful rig my dude! great inspiration for my next build.
Wow, what kind of set up do you use when you use this camera with jimbal or steadycam?
just curious what is a good setup if you're just going to use gimbal like moza air 2 or do most professionals usually just use tripods/shoulder rigs?
Really smart rig, thank you for sharing. I have the camera, the cage, a top handle and the same monitor so I’m 1/2 way there. You mentioned that you made your own cable. The bmd video assist doesn't have waveform only the 4k version has it.
amazing man... beautiful.
What is the price of this camera including the rig and accessories.?
I like building your camera! 🤘🏼

It is basically two wires RED and Black. You can cut a barrel tip from any old power adapter from other electronics and connect to a dtap adapter. But you can always buy the cable. Lots of companies already make it.
MrCheesyCam thanks. I wasn’t sure if there was a voltage difference or not from what’s sold compared to what you made
Would you recommend this set up towards BMPCC? I would imagine the only difference is the cage... Thanks!
So detailed introduction. Looking forward to more reviews from you. :)
Any words on your experience connecting field recorders through line outputs or shotguns into the bmmcc? Both the bmpcc and bmmcc seem to have a different set up regarding pre amps compared to Dslr. I’v been able to do it but would like your thoughts on it. Thank you.

What did you end up spending on the full rig?
I've heard that this BMD has no build in stabilization, so I wonder, Is that lenses stabilized? how do you proprely shoot handheld with it?
What do you use to control iso?
can this rig work with BMPCC 4k?
Very nice set up! I like your power solution! Something I’d be keen to add to my setup :)
Waveform on the 5" Video Assist????? counter+/- 6:37. How?
My bad, I was thinking of histograms. I use waveforms on my other monitor.
Must be very hard to hold while shooting, with the handle behind the monitor.
Whats the crop factor with the speedbooster? Close to s35?
Smaller than micro four thirds..
Do you have any issues with the Rokinon lenses being wide open going into the speedbooster? Yes the Rokinon lenses are not good wide open, and worse with a speedbooster wide open. You have to stop down and then its fine.
Did you talk about that problem in your Rokinon lens kit comparison? That's really worth a video, particularly for those considering a speedbooster on m43. What a dream setup ! Waveform in 5" assist ? How ??
I probably meant histograms.. oops.
Thought there would be footage
Nice
where is OneLittle Remote. your older version i think is better, with controls and sony battery adapter.
I did consider buying one of those but I built a remote, it was super cheap even using quality pushbuttons, case, wire, plug and heat shrink and cable.
Nice video though you should have color grade this video haha
Too dark that I can barely see the details of your rig.

I am still using the BMPCC and wait for a new 4k model. Best wishes from Germany.

MrCheesyCam what's the total cost? Nice setup btw
Sexy! Great setup!

Such a funny comment. Do you realize that there is no screen on this camera?
