This is the single most unuser friendly thermostat I have come across in all my years of renting. I hope the people who designed this realise how much time they've wasted looking at these comments and take a good hard look at themselves
I am a programmer by profession and I have been doing electronics since I was born, yet I was not able to understand how to configure this even when looking at the manual. Extremely badly designed, I was able to program the previous thermostat without reading anything, but this one is so difficult to understand its like they tried to make it difficult to configure. Stay away from this product.
I agree, I got this yesterday & the instructions are dreadful! I don't want to use the program settings but can't switch them off unless I slide the switch on the receiver to manual. Then the heating is just on all the time?? The idea of a wireless thermostat is so you don't have to keep getting up & down to switch the heating on & off.
@@lisajohnson478 Keep the receiver on auto. you can then use manual mode on the programmer and select your desired temperature. Its so silly they have two meanings for manual in this item
Please invest in writing a proper manual and troubleshooting guide, there area many basic issues that aren't covered in your quick guide, such as receiver lighting configurations, how to switch manual mode off from the thermostat (e.g. 'cog' button as you state below). It's taken a lot of trial and error to work out some stuff with the RT520 and receiver, most of which has been learnt from people replying to other people below your videos, not from the actual videos itself. It's really poor.
Can anyone explain how Boost mode works - not one of these videos or manual notes mentions it. Also if you press Manual button to switch to Manual mode how do you turn it off again (deactivate)- the instruction booklet is useless foe basic stuff
Boost allows you to enter a higher temperature for a number of hours (or you can also chose to have that higher temperature until you manually deactivate by holding the 1st button down
Press the manual button (hand icon) on the controller and then set the temperature you want with the up and down arrows. If you set the temperature down to 5 degrees it will then stay off unless the temperature really plummets
My heating keeps coming on overnight and wasting so much gas. Our minimum is set to 16. Does the minimum need to be turned down some more to prevent the heating from kicking in? This has only been since the weather has got so cold. Like so many other comments, the manual doesn't tell you
I'm struggling to figure out how my schedule is going wrong. I follow all the steps as in the video but with the same settings for all 7 days in one go, but nothing happens - no changes in temperature at all. Is there a final step I'm missing somehow?
are you sure your boiler is firing. MAke sure your boiler hasn't got a timer clock on it. Even when the salus unit is demanding heat from your boiler to folow your schedule, your boiler might be turned off at a seperate control
Having this installed in a rented house, going from a 15year old boiler should have been a delight - instead I was mystified by stuff like " why does the off time for the heating have a temperature?". If I'm not in the house why would I want the heating on?!! Sadly might be going back to manual on/off as I suspect this is going to end up costing a fortune if I don't work out this controller.
Instead of seeing it as on and off times, think of it as desired temperatures at different times throughout the day. During the times you consider off, set the temperature to a comfortable set back
If for example you don't want to use the midday period just leave the times as factory set but dial in a low temperature, 6 degrees for example so the heating won't come on during this period. simples!
Leave the on and off toned the ssme for the ones you don't want to use. For example if you set your morning as 6 till 9, you can skip the afternoon by setting program 3&4 to 12:00. You will jump straight to program 5 which can be your evening times. Happy to share written instructions
Ah I know now why the heating engineer who installed our new boiler did not want to show use how to program the heating or did not want to set it up really bad device I just wanted to switch on at 6am and turn off at 9pm can you do this yes probably but using 3 or 4 programs not just 1 on and 1 off absolutely awful
Please help used the 5 and 2 option programed 1st on time 6am off time 7am temp 16c 2nd temp 17c, 2nd 2pm off 15pm temp 16c off 17c 3rd 9pm off 10pm first temp 16c off 17c. Problem I have the boiler keeps turning on even though the ambient temp were the thermostat is, is 21c but the boiler still comes on why?
Pressed the reset button on the back and now it's completely locked with just the battery level being displayed I've left the batteries out for 24 hours it seems to be the only imformation I can find but doesn't make any difference?
Renting a house, a SALUS controller is paired to a Vaillant boiler. In my old house the Vaillant boiler was paired to a Vaillant controller. I truly wish I had a Vaillant controller here, this thing is crap and must have been on special offer at the plumbers merchants. Might be an idea to do a proper video as a lot of details have been left out and your manual is total shit too for the ordinary user...perhaps again you might learn something from Vaillant, who probably aren't the best but are streets ahead of you ..
Hi does anyone know how to clear ALL the programme schedules? Reset does not work, batteries out does not work. I had an engineer turn up and he messed up all the on and off because he could not figure out how to use the sodding thing. Can any any clearly tell me how to get rid of all of the programmes on schedule?
What happens if my room hasn't reached the minmum temperature by the "off" time? Does it switch off until the next "on" programme where it will look to reach the temperature again?
Eddie Help yes - tap the cog button then use the arrow keys to go through settings, there is a holiday setting there. I’ve no idea how to use it though.
In my thermoster screen, hand icon sign is constantly visible. And I tried to reduce the temperature from 24c to 15c. But it doesn't remain on 14c ,goes back to 25c. Could I text a solution. Thank you
When 15 is flashing, that is the target temperature you have set. The reason it goes back to 25 is because the home screen shows the current room temperature. Open a window and the temperature will be allowed to drop down to 15
Click the down arrow and you will override the schedule until the next set point. Or you could use boost mode to set your own temperature for a set number of hours
@kirilllasis3720 is right! The programming system itself is really stupid. You basically have 3 imposed cycles during a 24 hrs period, wich is idiotic because you cannot really customize the time intervals by your own daily needs. The trouble is that you will fully realize that when you'll try to set it up... :/
I had to watch the video a few times to understand what the designer of this shambolic system had in his head. I bet he was the one who was kicking kittens as a child.
Not specifically difficult to understand the Salus is, however, needlessly obtuse to program. You have no real sense of agency and there seems to be something very conceptual rather than ergonomic about the product.
This device is useless. Even if one can get to grips with it, it doesn't take into account people's age, lifestyle, type of property, the ever changing winter weather in Britain or an induvidual's need or not to keep bills low. It's a waste of space.
I have an old thermostat what was only connected to the boiler through 2 wires, that's it. Now I got this shit Salus RT520RF that require those 2 wires plus another 2 and a 220 socket to plug it in. That should be on the package, on the site, on the product description, before people purchase this. I don't have an extra socket to plug this in, as my old wireless one worked wired to the boiler

Lmao its very annoying I've given up and put it on manually instead just on and off simple. I sort the temperature from the boiler if I want it hotter
I took the batteries out of it
I couldn't agree with you more- this thing has made me want to self-harm!!!

@Aarav Clark Thank you, I went there and it seems to work =) I really appreciate it!
I don’t understand. I’ve set the schedule but it’s not following it. It’s currently on 29 degrees and I don’t know how to turn the heat down
How do u turn on and off heating

What's the difference between the RF and the TX?
We need to replace our thermostat control and we have the TX but can only find RF ones to replace it.

I would expect so. 16 would definitely require heating when it's 3/4 outside, esp if your house is old/draughty.
