My father captained the DC-8 for United Airlines out of LAX from 1966-1971, including the stretch DC-8 beginning in 1968 before moving on to captain of the DC-10 in 1971 and 747 in 1972.
Growing up I flew as a passenger in so many DC-8s I can remember the smell of the cabin while watching this. I used to love this model so much. In turbulent air the wings would flap and the engines would swing from side to side, while the ride stayed nice and smooth inside.
Helium Road the ride is smooth but the engines are so noisy, I’ve never been in this plane but I remember one has crashed in the front of my eyes in saudia arabia - Jeddah more than 17 years ago
Wow man!.. I'll bet that was terrifying. Just looked that one up, I don't want to depress you but it was 27 years ago actually lol 11th July 1991. www.jetphotos.com/photo/8927385

You are welcome. My best research indicates that there are only 18 DC-8's left in service worldwide. The re-commissioning of this one brings us to 19. Let's hope she has many more years left in the air.

Just curious what is the identity of this aircraft restored from the boneyard? Would love to know the story behind it. Can't help noticing the guy in the right seat was a real chatterbox all the way down, bit distracting don'tcha think?

I was an FE on the 73 myself for three years. Truly a classic plane.
Plane spotted in Doha April 27 2022. now registered as TT-DFJ for CFS Air Cargo. Flying since 1968... you go girl!
Yeee Hah!
I really like the somewhat older birds, especially the cockpit feel. A little avionics upgrade like the electronic attitude indicators is also nice
TheRokko66 it’s why I love the 757, not to new or old, gorgeous design and a mix of avionics
Worked for quite a while on the -73's. Even did turn arounds on some -51's, 61's, 62's and 63's. My favorite was the -73. Quite the airplane.

DC-8's with cfm's are fantastic.
Our 60 series DC8s had the same Honeywell EFIS, but by the sound of the reversers, this looks like a 70 series. So many memories. Nice video.
I can't remember how many LOOOOONGGG hours I've spent riding jump seat in DC 8-73's. However, those were my favorite planes to work on.
The DC-8 is a beautiful airplane... so pleased to see it flying again (thanks to you folks)
NASA has been conducting research in the Great Lakes recently, with some very low flyovers in a DC-8.

The all legendary DC-8! Nice to still see this bird in t he air today. Sadly only a select few remain. It is just there run.
In Roswell, NM, you can see many DC8s in long term storage at the Roswell Industrial Air Center
That's gotta be Vince R. sitting side-saddle! There just weren't that many DC-8 FE's around, even back then. And even fewer with an Anguillan accent!
Yes. You are correct!
Thank you so much for this.
My favorite DC-8 landing at my favorite airport.
Oh wow love the updated avionics.

Correct on the CFM56 refit. What a beast!
If you really did fly DC-8s in the 90's.....you'd know that it wouldn't be called a -73 unless it HAD the CFM conversion.

FAA LAX. May be a Fed, but I bet he’s still “Pretty dang Smooooooth”.
What is the story behind this aircraft being reactivated from the storage?
It's cheaper and easier to reactivate a DC-8 7x then it is to find a 767 now and their role is quite similar.

I wonder back in the project when someone said " hey, let's put this giant windows above the pilot's so they will have to use hats... Lol"
Yeah. Definitely pre-TCAS days
what was the airline you were flying on and what is the registration?
Bravo Air Cargo. Now Defunct.
Wonder if this was a passenger commercial flight ✈️?
No passengers or cargo. First flight with just crew after being recovered from the MHV boneyard.

Configuration alarm
Was this aircraft once registered to ATI as a Combi?
No. However, it was an ATI bird. Sadly, the combi in the boneyard was chopped up and turned into scrap.
Ok is this a UPS or an ATI bird?
Was an ATI

can anyone tell me what company manufactured the gpws on the aircraft in this video? or if those callouts were just built in by the manufacturer?
