@Ryan Gromoll Those are not Volkswagens. Being in the same corporation is a totally different thing. The Aventador (not Avenador) is actually a pretty shitty car if everyone is honest. It's much too big, it's too low, it's too wide, and it has a miserable transmission. You cannot even buy a plastic bin and take it home with that car. It's not a car, it's a codpiece. Cool-looking though. There are probably 10 better options than a Bentley as well. I'd say any of the high end Audi sports models are better than the Bentley and so is the A8. But those aren't Volkswagens wither. Try putting a Lamborghini badge on your VW Polo and go flex at the next car cruise if you don't believe me :-P. I wish VW would sell the Golf R Variant in the states though, I'd buy one.
I think the Golf Alltrack is going to be a good seller for VW. It was very much needed in their lineup.

I own a 2018 dsg. Press traction off and hold for ~4seconds to turn off traction. Sport mode makes it that much more fun to drift. Rear end kicks out real well in manual mode, first gear.
Our 2017 alltrack is now 8 years old with 118k miles. We bought It new. It has been bullet proof reliable and the best car we have ever owned.

I bought a new 2018 Golf Sportwagen 4Motion S in July and have been anxiously waiting the first snowfall. Finally a couple of days ago we got pretty hammered here in the Northeast. After about 5 inches of unplowed snow was on the ground, I took her out to navigate our back country roads here in the hill country of Litchfield County, Connecticut. I was like a 16 year old kid driving his first car. I couldn’t believe how she ate up the steep inclines- without snow tires, just the original equipment tires. Granted, this is my first AWD car in my 40 years of driving, so perhaps I’m easily impressed. However I don’t think so- I think this is a superiority balanced vehicle and I’m not kidding- not a hesitation, not a fishtail, not a sideways slide- she was true straight ahead on all inclines. These cars are absolutely awesome. I traded in my 14 year old Volvo V40 FWD which I loved- hard to see her go- for this car. I looked at Volvo and just couldn’t stomach their new $50K+ price range. This car’s sticker price was $26K and change- the base model Sportwagen- and I got it online for $5200 off sticker. I couldn’t beleive it. The quality and performance feels like a $50K car. How long will it last? Only time will tell. But the styling blows away its Subaru counterparts and I think performance is superior too. I hope to see a lot more on the road!
I have a 2005 VW Jetta 1.9L tdi I still get incredible fuel mileage with over 200k miles, vw all the way!!!
LOVED the way my VW handled and felt driving. Unfortunately, it started to break down just 4 years owning it. Everything from the electronics, windows, locks, engine problems. Costs 1000s to fix and maintain. Don't think I'll ever own a VW again...
If you are smart enough you will stay away from the whole VAG group of "vehicles".
Frank, Check which brand of car maker is 2016 Consumer Reports best vehicles/most reliable. These are not your fathers VW's/VAG..
Check with actual real world experience for once, stop talking about bullshit consumer reports and reviews.

Edit: actually my grandfathers VAG cars are much more reliable and REAL actual cars in comparison with the new plastic depreciating unreliable worthless moneypit cars;
I'm no advocate of Consumers Reports, but they do provide real world testing and data, so in this instance, it is relevant.
I have owned several VAG products trouble free, so I guess taking your advice, I'm all set based on real world experience.
Of the 5 cars, only my 96 GTI gave me issues, but my 92 Jetta, 2008 A3, 2012 Golf r and 2016 S3 had no issues.

+Why Not that's good for you. My ex boss has a q7 and friend had a golf. The golf overheated on the motorway and the g7 had an issue where the engine needed fixing (cost £6k)
Problems all vary i guess.
I've had friends with vauxhall, Ford, BMW, merc, Fiat and Peugeot, Toyota with heating, radiator, electric, gearbox, dash, bearings, clutch issues.
All cars will break down. Now the question is, how much is it to maintain and how much to fix.

The Golf R may be more appropriate.
Almost every VW now is dual clutch & turbocharged. The AWD is what makes the alltrack standout from the regular line up.

So when in Off Road what actually is the system doing in terms of locking? Also is there an option like Suburu's X mode or others Lock Mode up to a certain speed?
You should mention what the standard OE tires are. They can make a big difference.

Pretty cool VW all wheel drive! Like the color a lot! Anymore, with so many off-road closures these cars make pretty good alternatives! I enjoyed the scenery shots! Makes me feel warm here in Calif... 😜
This car has a quiet, comfortable ride also. Definitely my next car.
If you turn off the traction control then press the button and hold it for a few seconds it will put the car ESC into sport mode like the Golf R.

Does the AllTrack have a different suspension than a regular 2017 SportWagen (trendline/Comfortline) with the 4Motion option? The AllTrack's price is touching Mercedes GLA250 territory, or ForesterXT, or Pilot/Highlander/Pathfinder...

Can you disable stability control at all? Looks like it'll drift a little, but wondering if you can turn off the nannies for some fun. (Assuming if you can't VAG-COM will allow it at some point.)

Nathan, you're big like me. The next time you sit in an AllTrack I'm curious if the non-moveable seatbelt receptacle digs into your hip/lower leg like it does mine? It's made worse when belted because the buckle is about 3/4 inch thick too which further reduces hip space. Really hurts when you're taking left hand corners. The SE seats are worse than the SEL ones for this. I couldn't even buy an SE because of that problem. It's a simple fix for VW, just make the receptacle move like it does in most vehicles. Unless someone is super skinny or small, it's perfectly angled and non-movable to dig right into you.
Question: the engine powering the Alltrack is the the 1.8T that shows 199lb/ft of torque on the VW website. This is the same engine that powers the Jetta and the Passat but then it shows 184lb/ft. Why there is difference of torque when it is the same engine?
BTW, if you check on the Golf models, it also shows 199lb/ft.

I live in Ireland and over here you can't get the VW Golf Alltrack. But over here you can get similar cars from the VW like Skoda Yeti and Audi Allroad
My 2019 VW Alltrack was purchased from a VW dealer in 2021 with 7,755 miles on it. It now has 29,400 miles on it. The sunroof’s drains were clogged, and leaked into the headliner and rear hatch carpeting. VW Manhattan says this will cost me $5,900. This car is still under warranty and is covered under the extended sunroof warranty, as well as being one of the models included in the sunroof class action lawsuit. I have taken this car for all of its regularly scheduled maintenance as recommended by VW. I called VW USA and they are telling me that they consider leakage due to clogged drains to be a maintenance issue and they will not cover the damage. This is outrageous.

Test drove one .Steering not bad.Suspension is stiff.Not great if you ride rough roads.Fairly low profile tires,which Subaru would never do on it's Outback.Otherwise very nice,fairly quiet.
looks like an updated wagon of my 02 A4, in terms of capabilities, engine and AWD system (Quattro).. I was expecting something a bit more.. exciting but I don't see much "new" in this one. Can we see this thing in a more difficult environment?

How is this car in real snow. 12" and more. Is there enough muscle to get uo a driveway?
I wish I could test drive other AWD cars in snow. I know Quattro and Subaru's AWD systems are superior to my Acura SH-AWD in snow, but I want to experience it for myself to feel the difference.
Stick some Michelin Cross Climate tyres on it and it'll handle snow well. My mk7 Golf had done great in winter with the Cross Climate Michelins and it's only 2wd.
Are those winter tires?

Could you please test the Fiat Panda 4x4 at Colorado Road ? I saw your video about the Fiat 500X FWD and I would like to see the capability of the Panda 4x4 offroad. The foresters here in The Netherlands use it a lot . One forester said that it was better offroad then their VW Amarok pick-up truck :)

I think you're looking for the Golf R Variant, then - 300 hp, 4Motion and 0-62 mph in 5.1 seconds. It's not raised, and has no "off-road styling" (thankfully), so it's not gonna excel off road though, but it's sorta built with something else in mind and on good winter tires, it'll cope with snow and ice just fine. :)

Love this channel, love the car. The car looks great, performs well and does what is being attempted here. This video, however, is an epic fail. The sound is awful and I can drive around in circles in the snow myself (and have). LOL!
new Golf R rear diff can send up to 100% of the power to each of the rear wheels... they say....

Haldex gen 5 can not go side to side. It uses the ABS to do that.

Probably due to the fact that they were up around Loveland Pass which is very prone to avalanche right after a storm, especially if there was a lot of wind with it.

Thanks. It's still hard to justify the extra cost of the Alltrack vs the Sportwagon S 4motion. Thousands of dollars more for a little more lift, an offroad mode, and a DSG (just get a manual)

The Golf and the Audi A3 share the VW MQB chassis design. I don't think they have put A4 on that chassis yet.

Does the Alltrack come in DIESEL ? You know, like those millions of transport trucks we see all the time; they all run on diesel.
I find the choice of the DSG over the regular 6sp auto curious since the torque converter would handle a lot better creeping around forest service roads that you would buy this for.... VW needs to Hyundai route and have a 100k mile warranty that way they will fix their quality or go bankrupt.
Not sure why VW says Subaru Outback is this car's competitor: did they forget the Forester? Anyway, Alltrack seems like nice car but perhaps someday VW will drop other shoe and option R's engine (or detuned version) for this vehicle (would make it solid Forester XT competitor).
I agree, its expensive so it should have come with VW's 2.0 TSI. Probably the GTI version though not the R.
The Forester is a CUV, so its direct competitor is the Tiguan. Aside from 28 year olds with tiny dicks, no one actually wants to drive an R. That's why so few are sold and almost all are totaled before they reach the age of 10.

this just in...CDOT has to regrade their parking lot because some twit decided it would be a good idea to do donuts on a gravel lot with 2 inches of fluffy snow on it to test out a AWD system thinking it would be a good substitute for the real thing on a real road...snow, yes, but not an ideal "test" of the 4-motion system...why not try accelation runs with each of the 4 settings since the primary benifit of the 4-motion is forward propulsion; the ESP will handle keeping the car from getting sideways...One of these wagons (in blue) will end up in my driveway WITH a 3rd pedal.
K03sport we tried every single mode we could in every form of driving condition that we could utilize during that test. I'm sorry you didn't like our test in the flat area, but I assure you, much of it was for more than 2 inches and there were SEVERAL areas covered with ice. Sometimes logistics to work out, and other times we make the extra effort to try every terrain we can get our hands on. If you pair this with what Roman did with the vehicle during this press event, we have utilized more driving conditions in a short amount of time then reviewer's. Sorry you didn't like to review
for the price tag that they are going to be at, you'd think they would've made it a little more punchy with hp And torque.

I cannot get up my driveway if there is any snow on it with traction control on - I have a short steep hill and must come to almost a complete stop to turn from the street into it. No car that I have owned has made it up with the traction control engaged even ones with AWD. I have read that the TC on Volkswagens cannot be completely turned off. If that is true, then as much as I might like the car, I would not buy one.
The thing that this car is SCREAMING for is the TDI!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is a very disturbing interior design flaw in
golf and jetta models. Doesn't matter how you set up your seating position, if you are over 165cm tall, your knee will be in constant contact with the middle counsel. It get really annoying in hot weather and during long rides.
I'm getting close to picking one of these up. All you Subaru people can have your boring CVT transmission while I zip along with the DSG.

Well I have a GTI and 90% of the time I would rather be driving my GTI. Every now and then it sure would be nice to have a lit bit of extra room to haul stuff though. Still I dont think I would trade for it, I'm 43.

I have a 16 Jetta sport TSI. Loving the space and styling. I'm 35.
I have had a 2012 Jetta sportwagon TDI and this new golf may be its replacement. Simple reason:
I can throw sports gear or the dog in the back, fold down the seats and haul a lot for a small wagon. Yet still get a reasonably sporty drive and pretty good mileage. That concept works well for me and I'm 56, Colorado boy.

I bought this car thinking it would be great in snow... it’s not. I blame the AWD system that transfers power when it detects slippage (i.e. too late). My old 2003 WRX, with full time AWD, was better in the slippery stuff on summer performance tires than the Alltrack is on all-season rubber. (Yes, I know, dangerous, don’t do that, yadda yadda...)
Vw brings us a 4 wheel drive golf sport wagen but doesn't want to give us a golf r wagon?!

Nice review, but I will keep my 09 Forester. No problems at all with my Forester and it has 2 inches more of ground clearance.

First off, no one is offering you a car. No one. You came here of your own free will. Second, this is a compact hatchback, not an SUV. Don't compare apples to oranges.
Put the diesel engine back in it and it'll be a perfect car.
