- I think I'm detecting a faint sense of entitlement here, kinda like when your kids get home from school and head straight for the fridge without even saying Hello first. Thoughts?

I am just super impressed how calm and relaxed the mother bear was when you approached the cub to open the gate. The mother bear completely trusts you.

Definitely a sense of entitlement. Your porch is on their foraging path. It was so nice of you to open the gate after the little cub took a bit of a tumble on the stairs. I love watching how calm Simone and her cubbies are when they visit.
And what happens when these cubs turn to full grown bears looking for dinner? That guy should stop being so friendly letting them do whatever they want. And possibly find ways to protect his property and himself from them, otherwise its not going to be pretty. My 2 cents.

@@andersontomas55 Simone was a cub once and is now a grown bear, with cubs, looking for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, or at least some berry bushes and birdseed snacks. They're all polite.

Even though I live in an apartment in a big city, every night I can sit on my virtual porch and watch Simone and her cubs. Thank you for sharing their lives with us.

You are right, I don't think she would allow another human approach her cubs. It's a precious privilege indeed to get the confidence from these beautiful creatures !

Black bears aren't nearly as touchy about their cubs as grizzlies.
My goodness! They are definitely more dog-like and human than like bears! The way Simone was sitting on the banister like she was riding a horsey... what funny characters 😂
After knowing Simone for 4 years and then she chooses to bring her cubs to your house several times-yes, I think she feels she is entitled. I think she figures: "The closed gate applies to those "other bears", certainly not me and my cubs". It is so sweet that the cubs are becoming less skittish around you and they are getting closer to you but still cautious as they should be. I think Simone has already let her cubs know that when they are no longer with her they can still come to your house because she knows you won't mind. One day, maybe we will see Luca bring her cubs to meet "Uncle Patrick".
That's a truly beautiful thought. Patrick and Simone seem to have worked out the perfect balance of trust and caution which would allow such an amazing tradition to develop.

Bears have to be protected! I don't understand why dogs are so over loved by humans. Personally i don't like dogs i love other creatures but i definitely don't like dogs!

• That appears to makes a lot of sense. Good on your for having an aversion. He's never advocated people to approach or directly interact with bears.
• There's also a general advice to bring natural water to a boil before consumption, but realistic numbers are around 70°C to avoid sickness. It's easier for the layman to recognise a boil, so that's why no one corrects the rule.
• There's also a saying of "Leave no trace". The idea of breaking a branch is thus often frowned upon. That's a rule which works well for most people, seeing as ~80% of the western world live in or around cities. Here, the few available trails are extremely popular, ergo battered.
• The idea of storing your food away from Norwegian bears is laughable, but in certain American trails it's mandatory. Different bears, different cultures.
All these rules makes metaphorically sense. Your intuition is good, but that doesn't mean they apply equally everywhere at all times.

Thank you for bringing Simone her babies to us. You are always coughing, you need to take turmeric and a pinch of black pepper in coconut milk with honey before bed everyday. You will see the magic of antibiotics in turmeric.
How sweet it was like that little fellow said thank you for opening this gate. The babies are growing so fast and very healthy looking and Simone is big, bold and beautiful. Love how they still love coming to visit granddad Patrick.

I absolutely love that cub that climbs up the gate and shimmies around the post. I could watch these 3 all day, and be perfectly content with that. 💕

The climbing over the gate-thing is a slight adaptation of existing behaviour.
However, that jump up to the railing/balance beam looks new. That's a different utilisation of physical skills.

Simone stopped by to ask Patrick if he could babysit while she goes to the spa.
Don't worry, it's normal for the mother at this stage. The cubs are about at the time that the reliance on Simone's milk weans, usually about 30 weeks. She is basically losing all her baby weight, she'll be as much as herself as ever.

This video is incredibly disrespectful to wildlife. He’s habituation bears to human presence. Those cubs are going to grow up and not avoid people. The responsible and respectful thing to do when those bears started climbing his porch was to go inside. Bears should NOT get used to being near people.
@@hotjanuary You need to go to the first video with the cubs and read the article about what is going on in the community to understand why the Mama bear brought her cubs to his place.

Some day those bears will go somewhere where the person/people they encounter are scared out of his wits or has zero respect for wildlife and the bear(s) will end up being shot. While encounters like this make for a great video, it really isn't good for bears to feel so comfortable around humans.

Yes they appear to be entitled to your porch, nice of you to open the gate for the second cub which side stepped a bit. Simone looks very thin to me & hungry, that’s a lot of bear to fill after cubs. My husband and I live in NH (since late 2016), we never seen a bear during the day, only late at night early morning. They taught us to place our bird feeders high up on a line, what appeared to be a male captured on our web cam took one of the posts down, we put it back up.
We put food out at night hopefully for whomever gets it first, and fresh water it’s a fair distance from the house. Thanks for sharing.

Where I live the skies opened up, thunder boomed & lightening was striking erwhere. My city street floods ertime it rains heavily & basements on my street back up. I rent & ery thang in the joint runs on electricity. My dinner WAS simmering on the stove but hasta just sit there now. s electric

The dogs barking thinking blimey look at the size of those birds feeding at the table! The seed can't be very substantial they must be so hungry to come just for nothing really they get. Love the way the Mums legs splay and hang over the railing, So adorable!

@@HughJorgan1 If you watch his videos you'll see that he keeps a responsible relationship with the bears.
He doesn't "illegally attracts them" so much as he doesn't actively scare them off. If he did, you could argue he'd just be conditioning them to act _hostile_ towards humans.
He doesn't pet them, he doesn't coddle them, and when a bear gets too nosey, he makes a point to stand his ground.
I wholly agree & respect your concerns but (to borrow from an old phrase):
_"These are not the droids you are looking for."_

You’re a lucky man to be able to share their company. From across the pond in Yorkshire, I sometimes get a fox or deer crossing the back lawn but one sight and they’re off!.
Much as I love watching these bears, I still feel quite relieved we don’t have them in Yorkshire! Not yet recovered from being chased by sheep on Pen-y-Ghent

I live in the northern part of Southern Ohio, about an hour hourish from The Ohio River.
We have seen bear but it's been only a few times in 15 years.
I know they have been spotted around the college campus in Chillicothe.
We just had juvenile hit by a car in my county.
Last week I believe.
The ODNR says there are only about 25 bear in Ohio at any given time.
I wish the numbers would climb.

When mom knocked the feeder down, little cub looked apologetic, almost shamed. Aww. And then - "hate to eat and run but".. or was it "old mother Hubbard had a bare bird feeder"? 🤠. Someone in the neighborhood needs to provide a pool and hammock they can destroy while having fun lol
