It's up to three games now and more than one betting service. Also some of these were parlays on multiple JP unders with the biggest payout being over a million on a 10k bet. It's all circumstantial evidence but it is highly unlikely that this was just random betting. No one goes in on a 10 grand five way parley under prop bet on Jontay Porter without knowing something is up, no one. Someone got way to greedy.
And, of course, one of your regular sponsors is a sports betting outfit. You are in bed with this upcoming corruption as well. It could ruin sports. See Ohtani.
A way to stop this is that prop bets under should only be processed if the player at least plays in the first quarter, and in the last quarter. Otherwise, it should be a push. The strangest thing about this is that Jontay was showing himself to be a legit player. Like his brother, he worked hard rehabbing his injuries for the last few years, and was starting to really blossom. A 6' 10" guy who can defend and shoot the 3 could potentially make a lot of money over the course of his career. So he really was betting the under ... on his entire career!
Legalized and promoted betting is making the NBA disgusting. Hearing announcers talking about over unders and the betting line is such a distraction from crap games. You don’t help much either taking their ad money.
He is a injury prone player on a 2-way contract. If bettors, with a lot of money to blow, picked up on this, why wouldn't they take their chances? The betting sites should be the one under investigation for even making props for him.
Not sure what was going through Jontay's head, he seems like a smart guy. He spent all those years rehabbing in Denver. But the way Jontay was playing I have no doubt that if not the Raptors, another team would have offered him a contract worth millions. And if he continued to improve he would see a bigger pay day. I don't think it would necessarily be a lifetime ban. All of the league's seem to handle these things about the same way and the NFL gave Calvin Ridley a one-year suspension. I think that was for just betting on football and perhaps he didn't bet on himself so that could definitely make it a more severe penalty but I think maybe 2 years then.
The important thing though is that the NFL stated they found no games were compromised and that there was no evidence Ridley benefitted off of insider info.
