    Some great picks here. A few of my favorite crossover albums from the 80's that don't seem to get much recognition are from the English Dogs. Where Legend Began, Forward Into Battle, and the Ends of the Earth (EP) are all great. They are primarily a Punk band but those were their "Metal years".

    Interesting nostalgia. Nice to hear some old stuff. My choice for Crumbsuckers would be Beast on my Back and Money Talks for Cryptic Slaughter. And Gang Green was a favourite. I was expecting to see SDI somehere in the list.

      SOD is not really underrated. And is usually at the top of all crossover list

    You’re already intriguing me with the Crumbsuckers Lp t-shirt alone. Yes I’m totally with YOU!! I spoke with Chris Nataro back in 1987 on a gig they’d showed up for as well as Dark Angel lol ( obviously this was their issue for both bands at the time. He said his father needed help with his landscaping business and so being a nice Italian boy from Brooklyn N.Y.? Obviously 🙄 he chose to do something for his family and we never heard of that 3rd Lp supposedly coming out any day back in’88 or so and Remain In Light 💡 never saw the 💡 of day and I HATE Pro-Pain so once he left? That was it! We toured with both Corrosion and Dr.Know and I cannot believe We have the exact same taste in a few minutes alone bro’ Aye? Seriously. We toured with Canada’s Sacrifice in 1987 and they were such nice guys as well; but as I watch your video Sir, I am just waiting to see my old vands which I know you’d love ❤️ Absolutely began with a doomsday type of style more like Black Flag/ Sabbath meets Captain Beefheart post 90. Our first 2 however will be right up your alley It would seem my friend so try it out! Sincerely yours truly xoxo 💋 DJP ex PostMortem and Kilslug Boston Massachusetts USA Amerikkka of course 🇨🇳🏳️

    These picks are classic crossover as you defined it: the emphasis was on hardcore punk that added in some metallic flavor. Today's bands that are labeled as crossover, most specifically Powertrip and Enforced, are totally more metal, with more in common with the NWOBHM than hardcore punk. I dare anyone to listen to the new Enforced and see if they hear anything like The Accused or Cryptic Slaughter. I think the original crossover sound evolved to be more metal as the thrash movement continued to grow, resulting in a style more like that of S.O.D./M.O.D., and later D.R.I, releases. Certainly, bands like Powertrip, Enforced, and Municipal Waste are a nod to D.R.I., but I hear much more of a traditional metal influence on the majority of those band's songs.

    Cool List and Channel, some more I would add here could be.
    Ludichrist Powertrip 1988, Aversion The Ugly Truth (1990) , Sudden Impact No Rest From The Wicked 1986 and also Split Personality 1988 , Suckspeed Day Of Light 1989, Gothic Slam (If they are viewed as crossover, I think they are ), Deathrage Self Conditioned Self Limited 1988, Deadspot Adios Dude 1988, Chronical Diarrhoea Salmo Says 1988, Cerebral Fix Life Sucks and Then You Die! 1988. Think got most of them, minus all the mainstream ones like COC, DRI, ST,M.O.D., the ones you mentioned etc.

    Dr. Know had releases before This Island Earth- arguably even better than this record.

      @@sethcohen4119 Wasn't Plug In Jesus an EP?

    • @sethcohen4119
      @sethcohen4119 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe - it's definitely shorter than this island earth. Their Wikipedia considers it an LP tho.
      I would probably call it an EP but a long one. It's got enough songs and was important enough where I would consider it their debut, especially since it was way closer to a full length than a single.

    • @sethcohen4119
      @sethcohen4119 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you don't have it, definitely get your hands on it as well as the best of Dr Know comp!
