I completely forgot these cars ever existed. Yet the moment I saw it I instantly recognized it. I road in one when I was a young kid, real young-6-7-8ish. When they were everyday cars.
Such a beauty! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼Spent my childhood amosgest WV TL 1600, Beatles and Passats! Even the first generation of the WV SP2 only produced in Brazil! Good old times
What a beautiful car. The seats and matching cushions look lovely. The couple of obvious updates (rear seatbelts, reversing lights and front foglights) are also subtle and stylish.
Excelente. Recorrí Italia Roma año 68 con este 1600 con mis padres identico pero en azul. Lo más era su cuadro de mandos y su comodidad de asientos y en los traseros se dormía muy bien. TL stands for the VW official german designation touring limousine, that is touring sedan. For its somewhat strange look the car had the german nickname " (T)raurige (L)ösung " which means sad solution in english. 😅 My father had one of these in the 1960's and i must say that was a good car.
@@ClassicGarageDK The VW 1600 had in all versions an underfloor engine in the rear of the car. That way the TL had 2 trunks, 1 in the front and 1 in the rear, many space for the baggage of a family. I remember a 1960's family holiday in the beautiful landscape of carinthia ( austria ) near the lake ossiach. We drove with 4 persons plus baggage from bremerhaven ( north germany) with an overnight stay in bavaria via the großglockner high alpine road. I was a child but i remember the voyage in the car as quite comfy, at the großglockner we passed many cars with boiling cooling water. The VW had an aircooled engine which worked fine, no boiling possible. All versions had 2 doors only, 4 doors were not available, which made it a little uncomfortable to enter and leave the rear seats. My father was a master car mechanic with VW. He told stories that from a professional point of view maintenance and repairs of the engine were difficult and complicated because there was minor space at the underfloor engine.
Had a 67 Fastback...actually got a speeding ticket in it during a rain storm. Cop said I was doing 73, I told him It wouldn't do 73. It was a really cool car.
Wow. Car sits perfect. Looks like early type 1 narrow axels for the wider rear tires. Suspect the 15x5.5 inch rims as well. BTW, what size tires does this car have?
I came close to buying one of these but went for a Dodge Dart instead in about 1968. I had owned a bottle but decided against the VW because of possible poor interior heating

They made 2.8 million type 3s. I’d say that’s a success. That’s nearly as many sales as the Volvo 200 series but in far less time. It was a step up from a beetle not a replacement and as such it was never expected to sell in the same numbers as the beetle.
Ahhh, the good old days, were simple and straightforward. I miss my 1966 Volkswagen bug 😢
Good and simple days indeed!
Das war mal in Kindertagen mein Traumauto....
Meiner auch!!! Ein Nachbar hatte so einen und wir sind noch mit dem Lloyd Alexander rumgegurkt.
I had three Beetles 1961 on. But when it came to a new leasing car in 1975 I chose a Passat, rear-engines had served their time.

Top car for this times ...when i make my driver license i drive this car in driver school...but no new ...it was 1970...

So beautiful, the VW Type 3 , especially 1963 - 1969. They have such a smiling face! ❤

Holy crap, no engine! lol, I know, it's below the trunk. Used to have a squareback.
Nice, squarebacks are lovely too!
Ein schönes Auto, aber auch vor allem wegen dem originalen schwarzen Kennzeichens wegen. Dies ist sowas wie die Seele eines Autos.
I agree! I love when the old classics still have the original license plate!
Back in 1966 I expected the typ 3 to replace the beetle but it never did.
The price tag on the Type 3 must have been a lot more than the Beetle!

I would take off the fog lights and let the suspension in the original level.
Some like the fog lights and some dont - i think they add an even more oldschool touch on the car 😊
