You're clear, concise, and don't fluff up anything unnecessary, while still keeping a friendly and informal tone and pace. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the world.

    As a fire fighter its really important to look up a districts/departments ISO ratings. Also consider their funding, low funded departments mean you usually pay more for insurance.

      Ever heard about ion detectors vs photoelectric?
      TAMU TEEX Brayton Fire School, College Station Texas, did a video comparing detectors years ago.... After a Lady lost 4 of 5 Children, an ion detector in every room, She was home & the HEAT kept Her from being able to get the Children out. The ion detectors did not sound until LATE.
      Most places have ion detectors because They are less expensive & People didn't know there's a difference in how detectors SEE particles.
      The TEEX example, the photoelectric sounded almost 30 minutes sooner. 😮 By the time the ion detectors went off the room was basically almost at flashpoint.
      Have You noticed how detectors are becoming a 2 in 1 type? I believe that's because of the difference & _______ doesn't wanna accept liability by alerting PUBLIC to the difference.
      After 16 years TAMU Fire inspecting, I swear "BEWARE of FALSE PROFIT" is GREED based, not Religion based. 🙄🙈
      There used to be a Good Morning America video that interviews that Lady about the detectors not sounding soon enough. And maybe that TEEX video is still out there?
      Again, the difference between ion & photoelectric isn't advertised. 🙄
      Regular People assume it's the 🔥 They have to outrun, not the HEAT that moves like the WIND.
      PUBLIC Oughta get more info training about Fire Science. The amount of stupid electrical cord issues I've witnessed across campus, People are NOT educated about electrical fire potential.
      I explain it like this: Water hoses have water pressure.. too many sprinklers equals PUDDLES. Extension cords are like hoses that create FIRES instead of puddles. 🙄
      PUBLIC tends to think if it can be plugged in, it's "safe". They don't know to think about the LOAD & that friction is HEAT & Heat is unseen "FIRE" & Fire is basically a Tornado. 😝
      And remind PUBLIC of "KNOW YOUR LOCATION" = Addresses are located on Fire Extinguisher tags, code is every 75', beginning at the entrance, for Business Occupancy.
      And teach Children to evacuate to a location outside & practice escaping & meeting there. Children tend to hide in closets or under the bed ... Teach Children to LEAVE the house and go to a location the FD will find Them.
      I swear, basic Fire Safety Oughta be a class in school... People outta be made aware of USEFUL life skills. ❤

    Full of closure, I’m a licensed property and casualty and life insurance agent with Farmers insurance in California.
    Something that a lot of home insurance clients need to know about is making sure that they have mortgage protection as well. The way that we approach that in my agency as we make sure that our clients have life insurance. Your home is one of your biggest investments, and you most definitely want to protect it with the correct home insurance with all the right endorsements and coverage limits. But, if you pass away and your mortgage still needs to be paid off, life insurance can do that for you.

      I talked to my insurance agent and we talked about the increase in rates on homeowners insurance. He told me that in 2021 there were eight storm systems in the US that caused $1 billion or more in damage. He said in 2023 there were over 20 of those catastrophic events and the insurance companies are adjusting rates to cover their costs for those excessive number of storms. I trust my insurance agent to tell me the truth as I have known him for over 20 years as a friend and trust he wouldn’t lie to me. He’s an independent agent so he looks across many companies and is seeing the same thing.

    I am in the process buying a home in Florida. The home will be completed in December. I watched your video to learned about homeowners insurance because I received two vastly different insurance quotes. My current company USAA quoted me for $1900 per year and the insurance company associated with home builder quoted me $760 a years. As a first time home buyer, the big difference in my annual premiums has me very confused. Thanks for your informative video. I learned quite a bit from your video, but I still need more research before I feel comfortable in deciding which company to go with.

    Great content! I am in the process of renewing my homeowners policy which was bundled with my auto policy 4 years ago. The insurance agency Geico who I have been with for over 20 years with auto coverage, finally persuaded me to bundle my homeowners insurance with the auto policy. I have been claim free for both auto and homeowners insurance. Both home and vehicle is paid off. Unfortunately, Geico bundled me with Traveler's Insurance for the home and kept the auto under Geico. I have not seen any minimal discounts on either policies since bundling. Your video has pushed me to do some serious research on insurance companies to evaluate the best coverage and cost for my home and auto. Thank you!

For any homeowner umbrella claim outside the US it is a carry down meaning homeowners has 300,000 liability it will carry 1.3 million worldwide. The most highly recommended endorsement for homes is Water backup limited: this covers any water sewage claims as utility companies are only responsible for lines from left to right of the roads then you're responsible.

    • @ThinkInsurance
      @ThinkInsurance  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're not wrong(depending on the company)! This is a common thing I see with agents too.
      That's where the customer ratings come into play where reading reviews on a company will make a huge difference. You see where people are getting denied and why. If it relates to you then you might want to think twice about that company.

    • @macc240038
      @macc240038 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In addition to what you've said, they are quick to write you a policy without even coming to look at your house, let you cancel your present insurance, than way down the line, up to 5 months later, send a contracted inspector to do a drive-by, and then complain to you about your house AFTER THEY TOOK YOUR MONEY. There really should be laws to protect the consumers that require insurance companies to come inspect your house for problems BEFORE they write a policy and take your money. This way, if they don't like what they see, don't write the policy.

      It’s cheaper and more expensive at the same time. The cost to replace a sprinkler system in your house likely outweighs a discount you will get. But a lot of companies will.
      The way some companies look at it is, if there is a small fire but the sprinklers go off, there can be more damage to your property from it going off every where vs just repairing the fire damage.

      Hi sir I'm Indian working for an American Insurance Company who gives services for home and auto. I need some tips with you as an agent to close the deal with Americans effectively.

    • @ThinkInsurance
      @ThinkInsurance  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The three best tips I can give are:
      1. Know as much about the coverage your company has to offer, especially what makes your insurance different from others.
      2. Focus on the needs of someone first and then explain how you and your insurance can help.
      3. Learn to speak the language of your customer as fluently as possible. If it’s english then practice it and learn it to the best of your abilities. It makes a difference.
      Bonus: Time is as important as saving money. Be mindful of how much time it takes you to quote people.

    Hi great video. My question is: when exactly do I purchase homeowners insurance? I am at the stage in the homebuying process of getting the appraisal done.

    • @ThinkInsurance
      @ThinkInsurance  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When you have a close date they will ask you to get proof of home insurance. Then you’ll be able to buy or shop it.

    • @Mybeautytales
      @Mybeautytales 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThinkInsurance i have a close date but why would I buy insurance before the final approval? Or do they not charge me until closing is complete?

    • @ThinkInsurance
      @ThinkInsurance  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It depends. Most of the time it’s escrowed which means your mortgage will pay the insurance and then yes it’s not paid until you close on the house.
      If you’re paying it you can get the quote but you wouldn’t buy it until you’re 100% sure you’re locked in.
      Worse case scenario is the house falls through and the insurance is cancelled and refunded.

    Amazing video. How do I find/what is the google search term I need to use so I can find an insurance agent like yourself that will check with multiple companies for policies rather than have to go directly to separate State Farm and Progressive agents. Thanks!

    • @ThinkInsurance

      Google "insurance agent near me" and use the map and ratings to find which one to call.
      Who ever has the most and highest overall rating I would lean towards them as your first call.

    Great video, also very informative!!! My question to you is do any of these guidelines change when it’s a investment property with tenants living inside.

    • @ThinkInsurance
      @ThinkInsurance  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Owning a property to live in vs to rent is mainly different in the liability cost and loss of rent coverage.
      The risk is slightly higher because renters won’t typically take as good care as you would to your own home.
      If you make it a multi rental then you’ll need to estimate the price of additional heater,kitchen,etc...

    Edit: let’s say I move in and update it to a smart home with fire extinguishers, fire alarms, etc, do I call the insurance company to ask for a new quote?

    • @ThinkInsurance
      @ThinkInsurance  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome. I'm glad it was helpful.
      If you move, you will start a new policy since it's a different risk and locations.
      If you add those items, you simply let your insurance know to add those discounts to your policy.

    I just added a large covered patio which is attached to our home, should I have to notify my home insurance of this new addition in order to have it covered?

    • @ThinkInsurance
      @ThinkInsurance  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most people don’t because if it’s bolted to the house it’s part of coverage A and most polices have an additional 125% replacement cost which would cover it assuming it’s not over the rebuild of your house.
      If you think it added considerable cost to rebuild your house then yes, you should have them re evaluate the replacement cost of your home

    • @ThinkInsurance
      @ThinkInsurance  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea, if you’re in FL or TX, triple it! Replacement cost is about 10%-15% higher due to inflation and overall labor costs.
