A film about the charming Indian hill station to which Raj families would escape during the searingly hot summers. Ooty created a replica of a British way of life with its golf club, flower show and lady painters.

Very interesting documentary, thanks for sharing..!
Lovely to see the Britishers' affection for this place for its beauty and flora n fauna. Not much has changed, in fact, people here still procrastinate severely putting all work on tomorrow as Mrs. Herbert mentions..!
Two years ago I fell in love with this place and want to make it my home despite the challenges of language & reduced amenities.

We Indians have done a complete demolition job on Ooty and the Nilgiris. Why blame the British? I knew the Nilgiris at its best, having been to school there (after Independence) and it has been spoilt subsequently, like we've destroyed whatever was worthwhile, in the whole of India

Does anyone know what happened to Mrs. Herbert? Could not find anything in Google and for the respect she commanded among the locals, I am curious to know how she spent her last years

Ooty not invented by the British. It was there since beginning. You can say that Britisher are the destroyers of beautiful nilgiri.

Yeah ask the people who have stayed there even as late as 70's , now its beauty has all gone , it was one of the most beautiful places in India, now everytime i visit it is heartbreaking to see how they managed to destroy the place completely.

Well. While the Britishers did settle in Ooty, the state that Ooty is in now is not their fault. They didn't leave it a concrete mess, right? We are the ones who have destroyed this place in the name of tourism.
In the last 25 years, we've managed to do this.

I wonder what happened to eccentric but sad Alfreda Gay who couldn’t remember who she was married to!
