Hello Reidar, to my opinion the string schould be shorter.
Approx. half the length you are using is sufficient.
The short string has the advantage, that it makes the chute even more stable and prevents it from interfering with the keel.
I am using this setup for the last 15 years and it works absolutely reliable (Jonathan got the basic design of the chute from me).
In my videos you can see a big hole in my chute. It is the result of testing a longer string (pierced through the chute with keel).

You know, wolkenbummler, instead of telling Reidar how to use a drogue (especially when it appears that Reidar has the drogue behaving perfectly) and inferring that Jonathan supposedly got his design ideas from you (I'm guessing not, as there are a number of drogue designs that appear quite similar), you should really be asking Reidar very nicely to help you with your flying skills. Especially your landings. :)

I got this chute from a hang glider buddy, who did not remenber where he got it form.
Jonathan noticed in my videos, that this chute behaves unusual stable and ask me for the basic design of the chute. I have no clear idea why this praticular desing is so stable and without Jonathan making me aware of it, I would not have realised it.
Anyway even a stable chute behaves even more stable if it is connected to a short string.
Did you ever use a drogue chute? It is quite different from an anchor. : )

      I apologize, Wolkenbummler.
Thank you for passing this excellent drogue design on for all of us to use! I will certainly be using this design in short order.

Walkenbummler.... you asked if I have ever used a drogue chute.... I have while hove-to in the northern Atlantic under a scrap of storm jib and jigger with a drogue keeping her beam to seas in a nasty nor'easter for about 30 hours. No anchor would do. :)
