I'd like to see a sneak run out of in the future too, especially with Allar. Gives teams more to think about with the threat of that RB run and the ability to just flex out to a 5 wide set.

My high school ran the t-formation off tackle slant 20 times a game and on every 3rd down and less the 3 yards to go. That was 1969. i have the playbook to prove it. Harry Clarke, HOF Pa. coach (Central Martinsburg) was way ahead of Yurcich. P.S. He also ran the four diamond wide formation that Yurcich runs called Dragon Special. He had a dozen plays from that formation.

Wow, so he ran that Quads Bunch look back in 1969? Were the splits super wide like Yurcich's? That'd be pretty outside the box for the time. Would be cool to thumb through that playbook, Robert.

@@robertkauffman8137 I'd hate for something to happen to it in the mail, but if you ever scan it or take pics of some of the pages with your phone our email is fortheblogy@gmail.com.

Defense doesn’t just dictate which side to run, it dictates whether or not they are running or throwing

What I would like to see from them is the following.
T-Formation is at the heart a power formation. Bur out of it a team can shift from it into the near and far formations. This would give them a SE and open up the defense.
You'll notice Ohio State jammed the box.
The other I would like to see is. A shift to a standard T but with 2 WRs. This to will open up the defense. Recall in the wishbone days the hardest formation to defend was the one with 2 WRs.
The final is shifting into a wing-T. These slight shifts would really open up this package.

I wonder what the success rate for this formation was in 2022? I love it

Hey Sven: Here's Shane's original article on the T that he was interviewed about: fortheblogy.com/inside-penn-states-playbook-evolution-of-the-t-formation/
To answer your specific question...from the article: "Last season, Penn State’s T Formation snaps averaged 1.5 yards per play and 2 total touchdowns. This year, Penn State’s T Formation snaps averaged 5.43 yards per play resulting in 10 total touchdowns with a 71% success rate."

What I might not ever get is why this is called the T-formation when the formation that's actually shaped like a T is called the I-formation

I just wish we had Zach Zwinak to put in the middle of this T.

Love the T formation. Been a really useful addition for us. But there is a pretty clear tell, IMO, in terms of which way the ball is going. Without saying what it is, perhaps you know what I am referring to?
