Interesting and informative. Excellent photography job enabling viewers to better understand what/whom the orator was describing. Special thanks to special guest speakers sharing their personal information. Differentiating between facts from fiction. True to his word he had guns smuggled into the prison his associates were still in after he was released. The rest is history.
One thing i learned from the history of John Dillinger you must not trust nobody because he was so loyal to his friends that's what cost him his life because he was too loyal
The best documented, photographed, sensitively-presented Dillinger reel I’ve seen in decades! It reminds me very much of the details you can only find (plus a few!) by reading about this gang from the Depression Era. I sincerely hope this filmwork continues, regardless of the topic. The work is quite remarkably authentic & absent the usual hype! 🏆 Do any family survive the other gang members? The stories about Shouse, Dietrich, Makely, Clark, & Pierpont have remained largely cloaked. In your rogue’s gallery, they spring vividly into their roles. 😊
I’m a Dillinger I’m proud of what John Dillinger stood for however I do feel he could have approached helping people in a different way so for those of you who questioned him John Dillinger was an amazing person sometimes you have to read between the lines to truly understand someone
That's true. I'm from the same area as Pretty Boy Floyd was. I don't think that these guys done even half of the stuff they were blamed for. I recently bought the book Dillinger The Untold Story book. I haven't started reading it yet.
@@mjmk8928 it's possible. He had have a interest in plastic surgery. Him and I believe it was Homer Van Meter had some work done and their finger prints removed from their fingers. After the shooting at the biograph, and he heard that they thought he was dead. He could have had more plastic surgery done and left the U.S. or maybe just left the U.S. The Wild West Outlaws Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid left here and went to South America
@@mjmk8928 I do believe he that he lived for many reasons. 1. Many eye witnesses stated that the man killed had brown eyes & it was a well known fact back then he had steel grey eyes. 2. Anna Sage or the lady who set him up her request was to not be deported back to her country cause her visa was up. Well why did they deport her if she had helped them that pretty cold blooded if ask me & gives Fbi thats trying to establish good reputation at that time untrustworthy credentials. Now if she did what I.think setup a look alike as her date which she knew all she had to do was wear certain dress and they would smoke him on sight. I find it odd they said he ran and was nervously fidgeting for gun or something im his pocket, well Dillinger was cool under pressure not someone who behaves like that plus he been shot numerous times he wasnt scared. So that Anna had motive to help Dillinger if it wemt smooth but I think Feds quickly realized they shot killed an innocent man which at that time could have seriously changed the course of the Fbi future because Hoover was still lobbying for funds and trying to prove their worth. I also just found the number 1 reason. I post 2nd reply with it
I used to do security at the CHA project building a couple blocks north of the Biograph. It was built on the site of the warehouse the Valentines Day Massacre happened at [technically the parking lot for the building was the warehouse]. Also used to work across the street from a former speakeasy [The Green Mill, I worked at the Riviera Theater], the rumrunning tunnels are still there and serve as liquor storage for both venues.
Very interesting documentary about John Dillinger I recently bought 2 biographies about him, Dillinger The Untold Story and Dillinger's Wild Ride. They often seem to blame John Dillinger as the man who shot Officer O'Malley but in what I have read witnesses identified John "Red" Hamilton from photos as the man who shot Officer O'Malley so if that's the case then John Dillinger never killed anyone.
I own a cabin in the Miami valley campground near Quincy and de Graff Ohio. John Dillinger and his friends were supposed to have camped out there after the jail break in Lima. Don’t know if it’s true, but a lady whose family owned a place there since the 30’s insisted that it was true. One thing I do know for sure, is my aunt was a teller at the bank in fostoria Ohio when the gang robbed it.
My grandpa John Akers transported kids to school while fueling at a local country store my mother n aunt hid on the bus to avoid contact with Dillinger n his gang. Dillinger s parents lived in same county as my grandfather
This was well done...the stories didn't have any catchy one liner for extra drama effects. Just the facts seee just the facts. .. But seriously a good documentary.
Not too detailed now is it? They even only mentioned Herman Lamm one time when the Lamm Technique and Lamm Gang was a large part of the Dillinger story. This should of been at least an hour longer, at very least.
Agreed. This was my Capstone film to complete my Digital Media Arts & Science degree. This was the best I could with the budget I had (around $1500). I wanted to get more in depth about Baron Lamm and his technique and how it was utilized by the Dillinger Gang. I reached out to the FBI to try and find a retired agent or archivist but got no response to my inquiry. I wanted to travel to Little Bohemia and cover the shoot-out with FBI (It didn't go down like we've been taught) but couldn't afford the trip. I wanted to include more newsreel footage but couldn't afford any more licensing/copying fees than what I got. I had hoped that through film festivals I might find an investor that could give me a proper budget to expand the film to feature length, i.e. 120min. Unfortunately, that didn't pan out. Someday, hopefully not too long from now, I will have the funds to complete the film as I originally envisioned it. I'm still proud of what I was able to accomplish given my limited financial circumstance.
@@seumsteadt What? This was for a degree? 😳 Wow, it's fucking good. I thought it was mainstream and didn't realize it was from this channel. Hopefully you can make a more in depth version someday. I can never get long enough documentaries if they're good and not like alot of fluff mainstream ones. This wasn't fluff, just good enough that it deserves to be hours I'm crazy enough to watch ones like 'Minds of Men' by Truthstream Media (on MK Ultra) and back to back Adam Curtis in one sitting
First offense for what he did, no way ten years! Someone in my area robbed a store and was in jail one month! I always liked watching any stories about John Dillinger!
I've been captivated since the movie with Warren Oates, the following fall I attended college and I spent most of my time in 5he school's library looking at micr film and any background on him.
I don't think so either. One account had him cussing out Nelson for his reckless shooting during a robbery. Dillinger would also offer to give the hostages on the running boards some money from the holdup.

This is probably the best John Dillinger documentary that I have ever seen.
