Thank you for a great video! And thank you for your comments about paper charts (around 2:20). All electronics can fail; paper charts and a basic compass will not. Need at least 2 MK 19 auto grenade launchers(prefer 4) to go with those .50's. Of course the MK19's would have HE as well as AP and anti personnel rounds. I would also consider having some side mounted torpedo tubes for large targets.
These boats will be instrumental and very much in demand for escort duties whenever a Navy ship enters or leaves possibly hazardous ports, whenever an aircraft carrier battle group transits the Strait of Hormuz, Strait of Gibraltar and other choke points. It could also assist in anti-piracy missions. The Navy could incorporate a "mother" ship in the form of an amphibious assault ship for groups of several Mark VI patrol boats operating in a particular area. The Iranian Navy would be extremely foolish to try to interfere with the operations of these Mark VI boats, especially now that a totally new hardline doctrine has been established. What this boat needs is a small hand-held missile system, which I believe it probably already has.
I think these ships may be meant for shallower waters. An Amphibious Assault Ship would have a much larger draft than 4 feet. This ship appears to be a Littoral Combat Ship. Those are meant for shallow water patrol. However, I could see how loading a few of these ships with Marines could make for a very threatening boarding force.
Those are not the purposes of these very small boats. I spent over 24 years in the Navy, so I have sound knowledge of naval operations. After 9/11, the U.S. Navy really upped its defensive posture, especially when it's ships enter or leave port, or are moored or anchored in port. And that is precisely what these very small boats are going to be used for. The U.S. Navy already has similar small boats, and these new boats will be their modern, improved replacements.
Makes sense. But it would really suck to have to go in deep waters with a 4-foot draft, and then have a storm crop up. Take it from me, a 6-foot draft can be bad enough. I only wonder how they'll transport these. With that draft, trans-oceanic voyages would be extremely dangerous, plus the apparent lack of racks, and the relatively short range. I know the Navy has supply ships, but I don't think that's quite what they're designed for. Thoughts on that? (By the way, what was your rank/rate?)
They can mount MK50s(?)(the ones our Helos carry for ASW) using a special mount. They can also mount Hellfire missiles, Griffin Missiles, Penguin Missiles, and Stinger Missiles...all from a variety of mounts the Navy has been playing with. I liked the BAE proposed mount which incorporated a MK38 25mm Gun Mount (the 25mm cannon shown on the boats in the video) featuring dual feeds (to select from two different ammo types) with two Quad Missile Launchers on either side of the cannon, allowing you to carry either two different missiles (with 4 rounds each) or 8 missiles of one type.

Yes, it does. Aluminum and Kevlar in the hull along with a ballistic material in the RIB (the "flotation ring" around the outside of the boat). Most military RIBs have ballistic protection for small arms.
@@WiseSilverWolf The armor will keep the crew alive in a non full-scale war, so in this regard, it serves its purpose. If you need protection from torpedoes, and missiles, then the larger Destroyers, and Frigates, have already failed at their jobs. I could be wrong about the armor, as it's likely meant to protect against anything smaller than a LRASM. Best way to find out? Decommission one, and start shooting it. lol
2:35 paper charts are not unique to the US navy. I know for a fact that both Russian and Israeli navies train with and use paper charts in parallel with computer based systems. Computers and comms can be disabled.
@@derubermuller5971 Its a pretty big boat with a lot of space and the paper charts are not that big and can be easily divided by quadrants. So any foldable table can do the work. Even the one at the navigator station if you put the keyboard aside.

Plus I seen a 240 or 249 How many of those and why not mini guns instead Same with the 50 cals why ain't they they the 3 or larger barrel Gatlin style. Any near future rocket pods for incoming missle protection or offensive use.
It’s good to hear from someone with actual tactical experience! Definitely needed this platform to protect against unconventional, non-state aggressors. Excellent!
I was a Boat Captain and Patrol Officer on River Patrol Boats (PBR) One B-40 (RPG-7) hit in the forward Deck House, with five stations grouped together would be a Bad Day.
You have my most sincere respect for doing a tough job in hard circumstances. I thought the B-40 was a copy of the RPG-2 though? Nevertheless, you've made a good observation there, and to make it worse, it seems that the powerplant is right beneath the forward Deck House, so any hit in that area could leave the boat sitting dead in the water either way. It looks like the designers may have made the mistake of clustering too many vital systems and personnel in the same space, but hopefully that's also where they put the armor protection.
I'm wondering that too. Shorter range (PCs do 2500 nm to 500nm here) but she can carry just about as much "firepower" with HALF the crew. She's also probably 20 knots faster with HALF the draft. IDK what the actual operational costs would be but Payroll is much less right off the bat.
Little overkill for that boat but I love the GAU-8 as well, the Vulcan cannon, the 20mm could work though for serious anti piracy and then bring in a slightly larger craft w 2 GAU-8s as support. Some navies use the GAU-8 as a CWIS and call it Goalkeeper but use a 21mm sabo instead of the full 30mm round. The Vulcan is part of the Phalanx CWIS, gotta love rotary cannons !!
So I saw, but there are a few unprotected and manually operated 240s on the top deck that concerned me. However in another video about this boat model, I noticed that there ARE indeed chickenshields protecting the gunners. Just a case of an over protective Army looking out for its little sister service(s).
Guys, I'm not trying to put down the system nor the Navy (well, at least not TOO much on the later), it is an outstanding boat. However, there are similarity between the Boat and our equipment in the Cavalry (CAV). This idea is range and protection of the crew. With the old ACAV (a M-113 derivative) there were three gunners; two with 7.62 and on the commander manning the 50 cal. Arcs of fire had to be established not only from the vehicle, but also with supporting "Tracks". Jumping ahead a few years to the M-1 Abrams, we find a similar system this time with what the Navy would consider a 4 inch gun (Closer to a 5 inch) plus three MGs (two 7.62s and one 50 cal). Yet despite the outstanding firepower, the Abrams alone is still vulnerable. Tactics have been developed that involve a page out of the Air Force's manual: Our Tankers use the Wingman Concept. Moving on to a provable engagement scenario in the Persian Gulf, the Crew of this Boat will not just be facing one or two armed speedboats, but dozens. Each putting out as much lead as possible to suppress the crew of the Mark VI, therefore crew protection is important for the guys manning the boat to survive and accomplish their mission. Finally, lets put my sentiments in the proper perspective: GO ARMY....SAVE THE SQUIDS! ; )
As a Cavalry and Infantry grunt, I couldn't have ever handled life as a squid on a ship, I would have lost my damn mind and eaten the paint off the walls. But man, I would have handed in the magic socket driver to my Bradley to be a coxswain (lol, I just wanted to say it) on a Navy Mk 6 or Puddle Pirate MLB in a heartbeat. A Brown Water, Small Craft career would have been very appealing. And while I'm on the subject, and in complete contravention to normal intra-service rivalry SOP in the joint environment, much love to the Coasties and Sailors who patrolled the Tigris and Euphrates next to us in OIF. You guys shoot bad guys good.
My only question is this, since we are entering hypersonic missile time and possibly laser weapons ability, isn't this still too big to out maneuver hypersonic weapon systems? Next phase , throw laser weapon's on the smallest, fastest, yet sea worthy boat for advanced avoidance of hypersonic weapons?
U could hve a special 4th front ramp nose tank not prt of hull. That most of the time is how u control planing by how much water in the front ram nose tank. Can drop it disconnect it air bag deal if using it to nudge China Coast guard style work.
Brown Water Navy - These guys do Littoral work, going right in close for river insertions and raids. They are Not meant to be a Blue Water or Open Ocean Craft. What Color is the Mark VI?
I don't know about that camo either. When I was in, it was Chambray shirt, dungarees, boondockers(chukas if you will)and either a ships ball cap or Dixie cup. Libya/Lebanon era. Maybe we were "real sailors",lol. Nah,it's just the Navy trying to have the same style uniform as the other branches. I'm glad I served with the traditional uniform we were and are different from the other branches. Camo is for surface warfare, jungle, woodlands. Not the ocean/waterways,no need for it.
@@pgh1all1 Open ocean crews wear this blue camo outfit. The camo he's wearing is for Riverine Combat. I've seen a few of the Navy's River Command Boats (CB90s) and they are camo painted too.
The Navy uses DOZENS of STRB 90's so I'm sure you're right. It was a pair of River Command Boats (what the US calls the STRB 90) that the Iranians took into custody after one suffered an engine failure and drifted into Iranian waters.

It's good to see we have a modern version of the PT boat. I especially like that little ditch in the side for people to get on/off the boat. That looks extremely convenient and versatile. That thing looks really fun. I want to go out on patrol in one of those, maybe shoot at some targets, fend off the aliens, you know the usual.
Well the T probably could stand for Tactical. Like in WW2, my dad was on a PCE, the crew called it a Patrol Convoy Escort, but the Bluejacket's Manual listed it as Patrol Craft, Escort. German subs called it "der Gotterdamned Underzeeboot Sinker". Japanese subs called it "Round Eyed Devils Boat".
I know the Navy developed the Mk5 probably 10 years ago which was specifically for SEAL Teams. This Mk 6 looks like a huge upgrade for SEALs and looks like it can preform other missions and not just be for one use like the MK 5.

Pretty much all military's "steal" or appropriate tech
Looks like fun. Are their personnel quarters for extended patrols?
Wow thats a pretty spacious little speed boat, I wonder if it has any armor on it to protect the sailors from pirate gunfire.
Yes, it does. Aluminum and Kevlar in the hull along with a ballistic material in the RIB (the "flotation ring" around the outside of the boat). Most military RIBs have ballistic protection for small arms.
@@swaghauler8334 Pretty neat, thanks for the info :-)
@@WiseSilverWolf The armor will keep the crew alive in a non full-scale war, so in this regard, it serves its purpose. If you need protection from torpedoes, and missiles, then the larger Destroyers, and Frigates, have already failed at their jobs. I could be wrong about the armor, as it's likely meant to protect against anything smaller than a LRASM. Best way to find out? Decommission one, and start shooting it. lol
The front gun on it looks like it can acquire targets on its own. Is it like a CIWS?
2:35 paper charts are not unique to the US navy. I know for a fact that both Russian and Israeli navies train with and use paper charts in parallel with computer based systems. Computers and comms can be disabled.
Bro I'm just wondering where his chart table is because they are not small enough for that
And us Brits.
@@derubermuller5971 Its a pretty big boat with a lot of space and the paper charts are not that big and can be easily divided by quadrants. So any foldable table can do the work. Even the one at the navigator station if you put the keyboard aside.
Literally every Navy I've ever worked with (11 and counting) still uses paper charts. I believe it's part of maritime law.
I wonder if Coast Guard will start seeing a version of this?
I was thinking the same thing. The USCG could really use a vessel like this with all its speed, maneuverability and firepower!
Awesome and Beautiful..
Good to know our weapons on seas.. Thank you all for your services with the Navy..!
What's the big gun on back and where is it controlled from.
Why aren't the 2 side 50 cals not remote controlled to keep everyone under cover.
Plus I seen a 240 or 249
How many of those and why not mini guns instead
Same with the 50 cals why ain't they they the 3 or larger barrel Gatlin style.
Any near future rocket pods for incoming missle protection or offensive use.

What's the big gun on back side and where is it controlled?
Salute US Navy! Great boat, well thought out and will be a good tool for our sailors.
I don’t know what maintenance on these boats are like but they are badass. How do I get a billet for this command???
Never get out of the boat. Absolutely goddamn right. Unless you were goin' all the way...
Kurtz got off the boat. He split from the whole fucking program.

@@MrWhite-pn7ui And he knew what time it was!
It’s good to hear from someone with actual tactical experience! Definitely needed this platform to protect against unconventional, non-state aggressors. Excellent!
Ironically they're already getting rid of them...
Replacement for cyclone class ??
I'm wondering that too. Shorter range (PCs do 2500 nm to 500nm here) but she can carry just about as much "firepower" with HALF the crew. She's also probably 20 knots faster with HALF the draft. IDK what the actual operational costs would be but Payroll is much less right off the bat.
When i was in the artillery we did everything on paper, and the computer was just to check our work. And we took half as long to get a solution.
Guys in the infantry used to laugh at the advanced mortar course. Didn't realize how hard it was till they got there! Paper doesn't brake down.
Electronics when paper isn't viable, and paper when electronics aren't viable.
Does this have jet engines, or is it powered like a jet boat? HUGE DIFFERENCE!
Did i just see a PEQ-15 zip-tied to a .50 cal?
EpiicPenguin most likely attached and zip tied
Woah. The cut that section on the side down just so they can hand launch drones? I’m assuming they don’t pull up many crab pots on a navy vessel
only missing one thing the A10 gun
which could also double as redundtant propulsion
That's what that gun system with the joysticks is... 25MM chain gun.
In port ever night ? are ever other night ? Looks like good duty.
Nice, but might this old CAV Trooper suggest some Chicken shields on the M-2 and 240s? There was a reason the Oerlkons of old had them. ; )
most if not all of the guns on this vessel are or can be controlled remotely which he describes numerous times in the video.
So I saw, but there are a few unprotected and manually operated 240s on the top deck that concerned me. However in another video about this boat model, I noticed that there ARE indeed chickenshields protecting the gunners. Just a case of an over protective Army looking out for its little sister service(s).
John Taylor only one is controlled remotely, the rest are manned
Finally, lets put my sentiments in the proper perspective: GO ARMY....SAVE THE SQUIDS! ; )
TheStuntdude12 actually, it has two remote controlled Mk 38 Mod 2 25mm autocannons.
The inflateable rings would also lower drag & protect other ships when side approaching. Even an extra feet less drag is big diff/deal.
Shoot good guys bad and fratricide is non-issue.
Xxx.

I am used to looking at old World War II PT boats and corvettes and I kept looking for the torpedoes and depth charges. :)
They carry them on removable and reconfigurable mounts like on modern aircraft. I think that a lot of the mounts are still in the development phase.
I'm a 66 Tonkin Gulf sailor on dd819. I'm green with envy. Take me on a ride, please.

This guy has a super mario mustache. It's perfect
wait so what if someone bumps the little joystick? your gunna get sent into the boat thats next to you
Thanks for the great tour Skipper, just keep Ensign Parker away from those Mark 50s. (RIP Tim Conway)
U could hve a special 4th front ramp nose tank not prt of hull. That most of the time is how u control planing by how much water in the front ram nose tank. Can drop it disconnect it air bag deal if using it to nudge China Coast guard style work.
Why does the Navy wear forest camo?
Brown Water Navy - These guys do Littoral work, going right in close for river insertions and raids. They are Not meant to be a Blue Water or Open Ocean Craft. What Color is the Mark VI?
Stop asking questions!!
@@Făt-Frumos1982 nah...f.o.
Shouldn't the mission for the boat be clear BEFORE they are built?
Some inspirations from the Strb 90 I see :)
The Navy uses DOZENS of STRB 90's so I'm sure you're right. It was a pair of River Command Boats (what the US calls the STRB 90) that the Iranians took into custody after one suffered an engine failure and drifted into Iranian waters.
What is point of this ship if we have sea arks and cyclone class or any other smaller boats?
The video is good but that music isnt congruent. Please stop playing this track.
This the same music girls use for their bikini haul videos
Yeah, this music is for Bikini reviews not warships
It's for gay clubbing.
So is that ball cap he is wearing
Thank you for the tour of your boat. Happy to see the modern high tech that goes to sea. I served during Vietnam and the US Navy was still using WWII ships and technology.
Looks like our money is well spent. Take care sailors and marines.
to be honest..Chinese can copy from these videos too..those Copycats...

a lot of guns for a little boat:)
Well pirates will give resistance to coast guards so it obvious that they add more weapon not as powerful but more of dealing with smaller resistance

I saw a video on SWCC those sailors have one bad ass boat with more fire power
They are supposed to deal with a lot of targets
This looks like a peacetime patrol boat - survivability in that pilot house would be next to nil in any real action- hopefully there is a secondary set of controls in a much safer location at or below the waterline.
Haha yea, right next to the coffee machine just before the head. How big exactly do you think these are??
Please don't go out there and surrender to another bass boat
ACE Champion ikr that shit was embarrassing to see on the news, but still they were surrounded by multiple bass boats who were ready to start ww3 over nothin :(
why is this the same music i heard on a vanlife video earlier?
I wanted to see sleeping quarters.
I was told 6 bunks for 12 crewmen. They really don't sleep on these boats though. The MK6s are more for short-ranged littoral patrols like the River Command Boats.
You saw them. It was the stand-up seats.
i find it interesting that the computers seem to still use windows xp. in most of the footage the screens are covered and the small amount of screen showed has a label "UNCLASSIFIED // FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY" - at 4:39 if anyone cares
I was looking at fishing center consoles lol. No rod holders or live tanks on these boats

A Special Warfare ops platform, if there ever was one. Cool.A great job for a Boswains mate.
I know the Navy developed the Mk5 probably 10 years ago which was specifically for SEAL Teams. This Mk 6 looks like a huge upgrade for SEALs and looks like it can preform other missions and not just be for one use like the MK 5.
USCG has weapons authority granted to E-3's. What are paper charts?
