In Japan, where 12,000 titles and one billion comics are published annually, sometimes characters are deliberately made to look strange in order to make an impact on readers and boost sales. The same goes for Sanji's eyebrows or Usopp's nose. If you do that in live-action, it becomes just cosplay.
what's criminal is sanji's entry to the crew. It was god damn weak. Why did they scratched Don krieg when he's the reason why sanji shines in the baratie arc. And they left off some memorable scenes that could've been a sight to see in a live action.

I wasn't really a fan of Arlong's design by first time but Arlong's actor did nailed the character, and I love how some of the camera angles during Arlong Park made Arlong seems bigger
Anime fans really gotta start looking beyond appearances and costumes as the only thing to judge live-adaptations on. A character is more than just how they look. The line delivery, the voice, the acting nuance also helps bring characters to real life. None of that comes through with just looking at still photos. Shanks did pretty good for the limited screen time he had. All characters were "toned down" except for Buggy because them acting all hyper and loud like the anime would quickly grow tiring and frankly unrealistic. The exaggerated emotions of anime doesn't always translate well to live action.

People dont understand that Shanks even in anime isn’t supposed to come out as a badass person, he is shown as a normal guy and people underestimate him. If we go with that context then I feel Shanks looks the part to me.
I actually think it's Nami who isn't as good as she could be! Her face is close to the anime, but her hair is too fake orange and should be closer to a natural redhead/ginger, the stylist also didn't get her hairstyle right. It's more of a shaggy bob with dead ends than the layered bob the actual Nami rocks. After all the work they did to make Hawkeye look great in make up and hair, and Steven is AMAZING at portraying his devil may care attitude and matching anime voice/accent/tone, they failed Nami miserably! She's also portraying Nami way too serious and not nearly as fun and light hearted and playful as the anime Nami! Anime Nami jokes a lot more, shops more and is only usually angry when the boys get pervy or she loses money!!! Luffy's hair should have been darkened and straightened to match the anime of such an important main character!!! Luffy's hair is NOT curly!!! He also needs to be more selfish, driven, and bossy!!! He's too laid back to match Luffy!!! He needs to smile with his whole mouth and not just show his top teeth! Luffy's smile is full on and cheesy!!! Luffy's smile and attitude screams "look at me"!!! Zoro is great, swordplay is wonderful, but he needs to put more manly attitude and gruffness in his voice, and never leave his honor and dedication to Luffy out of his character. Sanji has got to be one of my top pics for they did it right! He does his own stunts and cooking, and looks so close to the anime! Sanji is charming and laughs like his character and just needs minimal improvement, just needs a tad bit thicker hair that's layered at the bottom more similar to Nami's in the anime, not just a super thin short straight cut, and where the hell is his curly eyebrows, even penciled in, is a MAJOR part of his anime character and future relationship with Zoro who takes pop shots at his eyebrows all the time, another fail from the make up and hair people, and he needs to geek out more over the women, and put on a flirty funny falsetto here and there around the women and utter "Nami Swan" a few times!!! Usopp needs his NOSE!!! They gave Buggy his! (Buggy is spot on as well as Garp, though Garp could be a little bit thicker in build.) Usopp's nose is such a part of the character and puns in the anime!!! It didn't have to be super long, just stand out more than a regular nose! Shanks to me looks and acts like anime Shanks, but again the hair isn't done right!!! Why are the characters with the colored hair not done right. Partially colored is NOT okay!!! Colored hair is huge in anime and there's no excuse for half done hair!!! Seriously fire the hair person, they stink!!! Gol D Roger looks fine to me, and his part is super small, so no biggie, we know it's him. Arlong definitely needed to be beefier!!! I think they definitely need to up their game over all on the make up, hair and prosthetics department!!! I think if they are skimping on this the first 3 seasons they definitely need to not screw up as this series goes on!!! Fans will be ticked off if they get any sloppily and cheap on the effects and make up departments!!!

Wtf!!! Arlong's character was probably one of the best along with Buggy's. They captured the character's essence and especially the voices so damn well. This comparison is the worst. You would not expect them to literally look like the anime characters. There's going to be some human element.

I wasn't really a fan of Arlong's design by first time but Arlong's actor did nailed the character, and I love how some of the camera angles during Arlong Park made Arlong seems bigger

Damn, talk about absolutely not even seeing a single minute of anime Zoro... He's just as goofy as Luffy in the manga and anime...
Anime fans really gotta start looking beyond appearances and costumes as the only thing to judge live-adaptations on.
A character is more than just how they look. The line delivery, the voice, the acting nuance also helps bring characters to real life. None of that comes through with just looking at still photos.
Shanks did pretty good for the limited screen time he had. All characters were "toned down" except for Buggy because them acting all hyper and loud like the anime would quickly grow tiring and frankly unrealistic.
The exaggerated emotions of anime doesn't always translate well to live action.
character is more than just how they look but look still important if you want to adapt to other visual medium, people are going to see the character it would be weird if they are look totally different.

People dont understand that Shanks even in anime isn’t supposed to come out as a badass person, he is shown as a normal guy and people underestimate him. If we go with that context then I feel Shanks looks the part to me.

I actually think it's Nami who isn't as good as she could be! Her face is close to the anime, but her hair is too fake orange and should be closer to a natural redhead/ginger, the stylist also didn't get her hairstyle right. It's more of a shaggy bob with dead ends than the layered bob the actual Nami rocks. After all the work they did to make Hawkeye look great in make up and hair, and Steven is AMAZING at portraying his devil may care attitude and matching anime voice/accent/tone, they failed Nami miserably! She's also portraying Nami way too serious and not nearly as fun and light hearted and playful as the anime Nami! Anime Nami jokes a lot more, shops more and is only usually angry when the boys get pervy or she loses money!!! Luffy's hair should have been darkened and straightened to match the anime of such an important main character!!! Luffy's hair is NOT curly!!! He also needs to be more selfish, driven, and bossy!!! He's too laid back to match Luffy!!! He needs to smile with his whole mouth and not just show his top teeth! Luffy's smile is full on and cheesy!!! Luffy's smile and attitude screams "look at me"!!! Zoro is great, swordplay is wonderful, but he needs to put more manly attitude and gruffness in his voice, and never leave his honor and dedication to Luffy out of his character. Sanji has got to be one of my top pics for they did it right! He does his own stunts and cooking, and looks so close to the anime! Sanji is charming and laughs like his character and just needs minimal improvement, just needs a tad bit thicker hair that's layered at the bottom more similar to Nami's in the anime, not just a super thin short straight cut, and where the hell is his curly eyebrows, even penciled in, is a MAJOR part of his anime character and future relationship with Zoro who takes pop shots at his eyebrows all the time, another fail from the make up and hair people, and he needs to geek out more over the women, and put on a flirty funny falsetto here and there around the women and utter "Nami Swan" a few times!!! Usopp needs his NOSE!!! They gave Buggy his! (Buggy is spot on as well as Garp, though Garp could be a little bit thicker in build.) Usopp's nose is such a part of the character and puns in the anime!!! It didn't have to be super long, just stand out more than a regular nose! Shanks to me looks and acts like anime Shanks, but again the hair isn't done right!!! Why are the characters with the colored hair not done right. Partially colored is NOT okay!!! Colored hair is huge in anime and there's no excuse for half done hair!!! Seriously fire the hair person, they stink!!! Gol D Roger looks fine to me, and his part is super small, so no biggie, we know it's him. Arlong definitely needed to be beefier!!! I think they definitely need to up their game over all on the make up, hair and prosthetics department!!! I think if they are skimping on this the first 3 seasons they definitely need to not screw up as this series goes on!!! Fans will be ticked off if they get any sloppily and cheap on the effects and make up departments!!!
This is probably one of THE best casting for any series in a longggg time
