yeah, the instant he said 12 million, I was like "that's a bit longer than you think buddy". I always remember that 100k seconds is around a day, 1 million seconds is around 11.5 days, and 1 billion seconds is around 35 years.
i was like 3 months into therapy, just made a doc appointment for SSRI's, just about to sign up for an interviewing workshop, and then i started watching northernlion clips
49:24 I also had this same revelation like 3 years ago, and I haven't really had any way to put my own thoughts out into the world, so I'm just gonna say it in this comment that no one will read. I was playing hypixel skyblock, and I had a period of time where I was really focused on making a lot of money per hour. And then one day, after getting my divan armour maxed out, I realised that even though dillo mining is like 3x faster than jade mining, I couldn't maintain that mental state for even nearly as long, and I was actually making less money overall, because I needed to take so many breaks. That then got me into the thought process of deciding what I should optimise for. Instead of optimising for coins per hour, I moved to optimising for total amount of coins I can earn without destroying my mental. Eventually that led me to the realisation that what I should really be optimising for is neither of those, and instead I should be optimising for enjoyment. But I also realised that there are exceptions. Like factorio. For obvious reasons. The final part of my awakening was the first time I heard NL refer to video games as toys. Because if you're not a literal professional, they really are just toys.
+2. Sometimes optimizing can be a big part of the enjoyment, but the moment where it supplants the enjoyment you start to lose your way. A slightly unfun moment can be worth it if you have more fun afterwards as a result. But it's easy to slide too far down that slope and lose sight of why you actually enjoy playing something.
@@kenallsop7502 This was what got me to finally permanently quit World of Warcraft after playing it on and off for years. The r/frugal joke goes is so funny because I finished high school a few years after the global financial crisis and had to write economics papers about how a major contributing factor to the crisis was consumer confidence i.e. how much people are willing to spend on consumer goods and we're at GFC levels now, it still causes inflation because the CEOs see waning profits and say well I see an easy solution here and simply raise the price.
People saying no to people in Britain doing Latin are wrong. It's not overly common but you can choose it at a fair amount of schools and it's often mandatory at private schools. There's actually a big political fallout just now as the labour government want to remove it from grammar schools (public schools that you need to test to get into)
56:01 So many people answered milk to the question "what's the most thrown out item in the fridge." I can count on one hand the number of times I or my family have had to throw out milk in 30 years. Are we just milk addicts or something? Is it all the chai? I genuinely would've answered milk for *least* thrown out item! Lettuce/greens are probably the truth for me.
I took two years of Latin in high school, and my parents were definitely not rich. However, it was a private Catholic school (in the US), and I did have to work there during my summers to help pay tuition. And that's all I have to say about that.
