    Money goes where it is treated best, our gov has made it favourable for money to follow property (PHONY ECONOMY WEALTH). It should have favoured business and job creation (REAL ECONOMY WEALTH)

    Negative gearing is why our kids will never own property. Check out when it came in and when property prices became disconnected from incomes , He is soooo biased

    Would be nice if housing was affordable and population was not growning this fast. People will be able to change properties easily if prices stabilise and do not continue extreme increases. Cut immigration intake. Ban foreign ownership of Australian properties. Negative gearing and CGT concessions should be reduced. Income taxes should be reduced. GST should increase. We need an overhaul of our tax and immigration systems.

      Maybe, but definately CGT should be abolished. Why give governments good reason to formulate policy on property value increases. Easy money for them ..

    Edwin "Even if prices were to drop say 50%, people still won't be able to get a loan and get in". Yup, I find this true for myself, and true for many people who are not wealthy or don't own a property already. Prices are so expensive that even if they crash by 50% they are still unaffordable, what a reality we live in.

    Property prices were out of control well before the immigration boost, agree that's making things worse, but it's NOT the reason this has been going on since 2003!

    Edwin, if tax changes were made to dissuade property investment and speculation it could help the RBNZ and also the RBA to lower policy rates faster and also stabilize house prices.
    One simple way is for states and local authorities to extend the 'Airbnb Tax' to include rental properties? Do you know what the Airbnb Tax is? It is basically a determination by the local authority to classify a short-term rental as a commercial property for tax (rating in NZ) assessment purposes.

      Because the Government has contracted away all the cheap energy to China and japan, so nothing in Australia could be manufactured competitively, by design I think
