A very thorough review! Although I'm unlikely to build one of these as I'm not into RC stuff, it was interesting to see what's in the box. Like you, I'm a big fan of Tamiya- clear instructions, parts that fit together well and always a pleasurable experience. I know you'll enjoy building it and look forward to the next instalment.
Aber does antenna mounts and 50 cal barrels, plus ammo and ammo boxes. Live resin does 50 cal boxes and ammunition belts and mission models does spent 50 cal casings, and full casings, true value does several sets of resin bags, boxes and such. They look like they are for Sherman tanks. Everything I wrote isn't too expensive. Value gear is around $20, barrel around 15. And so on. Tamiya also does a small detail set with ammo boxes and helmets and such. I'm working on the trumpeter m16 in 1/16, and I've added a bunch of those sets. Totally worth it, every one of them.
Hi Nigel good review as always and I am looking forward to seeing you build this kit. You wondered what rubber cement is: Rubber cement is an adhesive made from elastic polymers mixed in a solvent such as acetone, hexane, heptane or toluene to keep them fluid enough to be used. This makes it part of the class of drying adhesives: as the solvents quickly evaporate, the rubber solidifies, forming a strong yet flexible bond. Elmer’s and many other companies make this glue I don’t think there is much difference in quality of one brand over another other than to stick with a brand name. Cheers mate and stay safe.
Blister pack! At least that’s what we call it in the states. I’ve had good luck using Mr Surfacer, stippled on for simulating cast steel texture. Looking forward to this build.
Looking forward to seeing this come together. Dont know if im missing something or being dumb but im surprised a company would sell a rc model without the radio equipment in the box.👍
Nigel, you mentioned your Jeep and the date it was made, great being a war survivor. With your interest in military do you attend the War and Peace show?
Painting minis....that's my territory Nigel. There is plenty of fig. painting videos for you to follow although I use ink's in artists medium not paint as I get much more vivid colour!
Hi Nigel, can't wait to watch the full build, will you be painting this tank as from reference material it is the wrong colour and it will look more like a toy as is in the colour of plastic it is moulded in now.
Always wanted to build this as a kid welljell Nigel.👍👍
I must finish it Steve!!
Awesome Nigel looking forward to this build 🍻🍻👍🏻

They did? I got mine off of eBay.

I'm always surprised that Tamiya hasn't done a M4A3E8 with the 76mm in this scale. Everything but that one. Lol

No mate, I went once, so busy!!
Rubber Cement apparently not sold in the UK. The glue is kinda of rubbery.

Yeah, base colour will be Mr Hobby H78
Didn't Tanya bring the kit out in 1973.
Maybe?? I guess the full optin kit came out in 2001?
Right on Nigel! This is going to ne great!
Am not scared of building one - am scared of Mrs Oscar when she finds out a bought it.
that is not a normal M4 Sherman is it? the suspension is the m4a3e8 suspension, but the turret is an M4A3
