Every lifelong stooge fan goes through a cycle. You started off loving Moe for the slaps, then locked on to Curly for his falls and gags, and eventually one day you finally mature enough to notice the understated and nuanced brilliance of Larry.
My favorite Larry Fine line: "We can't; we need the eggs!" He sounds amazingly lucid for a stroke victim. He still recalls details and you can't mistake his voice with anyone else's!
Very True. Great quote from Larry. I loved all the older comedians because they didn't have to swear or be nasty talkers to be funny. Today there is so much of the opposite. I do have to admit I like some comedians today though, but the old ones in the past were the best like: Red Skeleton, Jerry Lewis, and oh so many more.
It really is. At an earlier time, doing dirty jokes was known as "going for the easy joke." Dirty jokes always get laughs. It takes real talent to get laughs without resorting to off color humor. I'm aware that someone like Robin Williams did a lot of off color humor. But he was really a comic genius. He was so quick on his feet in instant improvisation, such as when he was a guest on talk shows. He seemed to be channeling his humor from somewhere else. So Williams' off color humor, as well as his humor that was not off color, was part of an obviously tremendously talented man. Just saying, that, in general, comedians who rely on off color humor, I think, are taking the easy route.
In 1971, as a grade schooler at Rio Vista Elementary in Saugus, Ca, I had the pleasure of meeting Larry Fine. He was in a wheelchair, with none of his wild hair, but you could tell it was him. And he still had most of his faculties about him. It was sereal. and it was awesome
Michael Hawker he didn't sound like he don't sound so good I know he was paralyzed like you know from the waist down like the stroke and everything or what really what why was he talking like that and how did he die I just want to say is I'm keep saying this and over and over again I know people getting tired of it I want to suppress my deepest sympathies to The Three Stooges and their loved ones that God bless you thank you for brightening Everybody's Day and making people making people like us laugh and forget about the dark times and everything cuz I know we all need a good laugh
Michael Hawker I'd liked to have met him, but I'd just been probably to young to remember (I was born in 1972) but it'd been a honor. Thanks for sharing.
they need to educate the public about how he died because you can't shrug that s*** you can't shrug that off on the way he died and you know these guys. It's a man he has so much to to do you know but I feel like sometimes Hollywood could be cruel to The Three Stooges they should at least give him a gold watch or something or throwing him a going-away party for them they didn't even have the honor and dignity to do to honor those guys. I got to start to Walk of Fame
Red Skelton once said that if a comedian had to resort to dirty humor, foul language, he wasn't very funny. Red Skelton was in vaudeville, so he should know.
Wow! Even as a teenager some fifty years ago he sounds just like the Tom Bergeron we all know today. I'm local to the Boston area so I saw Tom on Rap-Around and PBS and such as a child and a teenager.
Larry and Moe died within a few days of each other in 1975.I jnew people who Larry was brother to the Howards, and for years I thought he was Larry Howard. The Three Stooges should have gotten an honorary Life Achievement Award from AMPAS.
I know he likes to gamble but besides that I just wish you know those guys were still around God bless them The Three Stooges are going to live on forever and spirit
cathy vice hi Cathy I just can't get over those guys are so funny and hilarious we all need a good laugh so way too things are in this country it helps us you know forget about the bad things that's going on in this country today at 3 so this helps us get through that
He wasn't supposed to go into comedy. He was a boxer before the Three Stooges came into being, but then he killed a guy by the name of Jose Beltran during a match at the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles during the mid 20's. He was crushed, when he visited the hospital that night and the guy was in a coma. It was there he met Beltran's mother, and when Larry tried to apologize she spit in his face. He always had a reputation as an animal when he fought, and he just couldn't bring himself to take on another bout. He sent Beltran's mother money every month for the rest of her life, and helped his kids get into college, but the guy's daughter committed suicide just after high school and never got a chance to go to college. That's when Larry converted to Catholicism. He never missed a mass until he went to the old people's home where he spent the rest of his days.
I remember Tom bergeron said that back in 1972 when he was a teenager, he started to call Larry fine and Moe Howard on the phone from Massachusetts to California. Tom started to call and talk to Larry on the phone, and Tom said that Larry's voice was altered because he was recovering from a stroke. He also said that he was living at the motion picture country home, so like what Tom bergeron said about Larry's voice being altered. This is what it sounded like to him, when he first spoke to him on the phone. But he said it was still The real McCoy himself, Larry fine of The Three Stooges
Hahaha! Oh, the irony! If Moe and Curly Joe had continued on with Emil Sitka replacing Larry as "Harry" and joined the cast of "Blazing Stewardesses" as they had planned, the Stooges would've been quite dirty indeed! (Or at least they would've made their first "dirty movie"!)
@@jessicathethreestoogesfan2635 Well, seeing as he was a boy during Chaplin's rising fame, he was at least familiar enough with him. A bit of what we modern folk like to call a "fanboy." ;)
When you get to 80+ years old, let's see how well you talk. You have to remember, these guys hit their heads so many times, and he had several strokes. He's not drunk.

Wow he said you can be funny without being dirty that was really profound and a shot across the bow at today's comedians.
Comedy can be clean and appeal to everyone, kids and adults alike.
Today's comediains aren't funny. They're vulgar!

“You still play the violin?”
“Not since I’ve been paralyzed...”
God bless Larry ⭐️. Talking about the old days 🌈. Absolutely Classic 💖
My wife is a relative of Larry on her father's side. He was Larry's second cousin.
I will watch shorts now and just watch Larry's face. He is hilarious without saying anything.
Larry was my favorite for a long time. Now I kind of drift to Moe. I just found about the Tom Bergeron interviews this past week. How lovely.
Larry was the glue that kept the stooges together I love them all thanks Larry wherever you are.
Larry was the glue of the Stooges.
Larry is the GREATEST "straight man" ever in comedies
Larry was my favorite Stooge. The perfect middleman character.
You owe it to watch all shorts and just focus on Larry and his reactions to the various predicaments. Larry is the glue that held it all together!
I still laugh when Larry gets slapped for no reason.
****Tom Bergeron ( Hollywood Squares host) was 17 when he did this interview.
Larry was my favorite.
You don't have to be dirty to be funny...Every stand up comedian should take his advice.
Red Skelton once said that if a comedian had to resort to dirty humor, foul language, he wasn't very funny. Red Skelton was in vaudeville, so he should know.

Larry underrated But Great 👍

So great to hear Larry's side of his Three Stooges stories.
The best observation I’ve ever heard concerning Larry was that he never did much of anything, but it was never the same without him.....
That’s right. And I think that’s a blessing for Larry.
Larry was right. You don’t have to be dirty to be funny.
This was recorded in 1972 and done by Tom Bergeron

Rest In Peace sweetie 💕💕
Sounds like this was Larry's last interview before his passing.
Love the stooges, such a great interview! cant believe Tom Bergeron was only 16 years old when he did this!
I know he sounds 16 going on 40
💕 Larry
This was recorded while he was in the Hollywood actors home where he was cared for. His slurring is the result of strokes.
He is not drunk, he had a bad stroke and was paralyzed.
I know he likes to gamble but besides that I just wish you know those guys were still around God bless them The Three Stooges are going to live on forever and spirit
So true! I can rewatch the Stooges over and over and cut up every single time.

Growing up, I always heard they were notorious drunks. None of them were.
Timothy Hartzell True, but Curly Howard could really tie one on from time to time
Your right Larry red Skelton said the same thing you can be funny without being dirty
Red was another good one. I feel for some comics today. Some are trying to be more clean I guess but what can you do when the public likes dirt?
Larry Fine was one of my favorite members of the Three Stooges. G-d bless him
You gotta Love the Larry.
Thank you Tom Bergeron , who recorded this interview when he was a teen.
He sounds 40-50.
Moe : Larry I'm gonna miss you porcupine 🥺💔

Oh....i thot larry passed b4 moe
AceripXF Larry died on January 24th, 1975. Moe died that fallowing May.
I love The Three Stooges, but "you don't have to be dirty to be funny" sounds silly. Those characters were violent and mean in some of those shorts.
...and?
Still tame by today's standards. Heck SpongeBob is "dirtier/edgier" then the Stooges.
Larry looked like a clown without makeup. I wouldn't be surprised if Bozo was modeled after him.
This man sounds seriously intoxicated. I heard he loved his scotch and soda
he was partially paralyzed by a stroke
Larry talks like he has a hangover!
He had a stroke.
He's definitely drunk
Eliel Pakkala he had a stroke. He wasn't drunk.
This is how he sounded after his stroke. I hope you don't paint everyone in your life with such a broad brush and uninformed judgement.
