Hello Jason. Giving you a heads up I will be posting today the final episode showing how to install the new differential into the GTO. Hope this helps you.
Dave, I have the same question as Jason. What wheels are you using, I need to find a little wider wheel especially for the rear. I have a 2006 which I will be digging into the rear end noise soon.
Hello. You know what I have to dig in my records it’s been a while since I thought about the rim name. I had to do a lot of custom work to get the big brakes to fit.
@@antoniojones8399 I would start there. Also check your hanger bearing and the play on your ring gear. Also check to see if your U joints on the drive shaft and axels have play in them. Where are you located ?
@@davesworld2132 so i bought it and it said it was rebuilt and I drain the fluid out of it before installing it. It was like pink milkshake. And I put royal purple 140 70 or something in it. And yeah. Do I have to align axle with diff when installing or it doesn’t matter.?
Whats up Dave. Good to see the work getting done. And yeah, thats the job, you learn a realize things you could have done different on the go. Its great to see that also in your content and not just a perfect effortlessly performed job. Can't wait for the second part on Thursday. If I could get your Facebook it would be great. I wanted to chat to you about what to do if the leakage is from the pinion spline or the pinion seal. And also maybe talk to you about what my differential is doing or performing. My facebook is Marc Gijsbertha. My display pic is two gray skylines JDM ones. Hope to hear from you and stay safe.
Hey what’s up I will search for you on Facebook I appreciate the comments. The next part of this video will actually be the following Monday because I have someone who owns a cruise who needs a tech video on their gas pedal so that’s this Thursday is post that being said I will search for you now.
Hey, I just bought myself an 06 gto with 43k mikes on it and when I tried to do some donuts the car was one wheel peeling, I tried dumping the clutch in first and rolling in 2nd to do it but it catches grip instantly. I’ve disabled TC and ABS and it still does it. Do I need a new diff? I’m also new to cars
I've got an '06 that I bought new. Only 36k to date, and after 3 diff fluid changes (at 8k, 18k, and 34k miles) I've got the very same problems. Clunking and bucking back and forth at low speeds just like you described in your prior video. Problem is, I've kept it all stock and NEVER raced, tracked, or anything close to "abusing" it. So I'm really angry that this issue has occurred. WTF did GM (Dana) do here for a car that's supposed to be built well?? I sure as hell don't want another one of the same diff. If they hadn't fixed this by 2006, a "new" replacement will do it again. Any ideas??
@@davesworld2132 great question. My first change at 8k was the Royal Purple. Chatter started around the 17k mark so I took it to the dealer under warranty. They blamed the fluid and went back to stock fluid. Problem started again this past year so I tried the Valvoline 75-140. It, like the RP, claims to have FM in it, but I added some anyway. It quieted down SOME but now is worse than ever. As a final attempt, I'm going to try Super Tech 85-140 and one to two OZ of the Ford FM. Why Super Tech? It can't be any worse than any of the others and I'm not throwing more money after bad. Regarding Torco fluid ( I think that's the one), I called them and the guy there said that these diffs are better off with dino oil rather than synthetic. The Super Tech is dino from how I interpret the bottle. Not willing to "try" Torco just yet at $30+ a bottle. The ONLY thing I can think of is when the dealer changed it, I had 51 miles added to the odometer and that still pisses me off years later. I can't prove it, but was there a joy ride involved and if so, could that be what had caused all this? I thought I recall somewhere reading to do slow figure 8s in a parking lot after a fluid change but that's no where in my AllData subscription.
@@texasaggieproud I will definitely tell you that I talked to a lot of GTO gurus and that fluid with the correct friction modifier would be the best fluid to use. Also when I say correct friction modifier it’s actually an additional bottle it doesn’t come in the fluid. From what I can tell that should make the chatter go away and if it does not you might have to do what I did to my Gto in the video. That being said I’m going to change over to Torcho as well
@@davesworld2132 yeah that will be my last option. Is removing the diff cover and wiping off the magnet inside any benefit or just a simple drain and no removal? I ask because unlike my Yukon, looks to be a lot more restricted to take off the whole cover.
@@texasaggieproud that’s always a good idea but lots of work. That being said. Since you have low miles and a possible bad diff I would just fluid swap and see if the noise goes away first. Then down the road do that diff cover removal. If the noise goes away your good to go. BUT it could take some time before it goes away the fluid has to work into the clutches.
I called the company and talk to them for about a couple months before I bought them to make sure they fit because fitting Rims and Gto’s are a nightmare. Let me dig up the information
One of the best repair video,s I have ever watched; Thank you, Michael
One of the best comments I could ever get!
Just rebuilt my 05 GTO differential and upgraded to a TrueLock, 3:70 Motive Gears and GForce Spanners.
Not a job for a novice…lol
Kicked my ass😖
I feel your pain. I helped a few people rebuild theirs since I posted this video. It’s amazing how many steps you have to take!!!!!
I've been waiting for this video for a long time....thankyou man for posting this
Hey thank you very much that makes me happy to hear a response like this. The rest of it will be posted on Monday

I have an 06, rebuild diff, brand new driveshaft, new Trans-mounts. Also new motor mounts. I have a clunking in the rear end. Any idea what it is???
When does it happen?
@@davesworld2132 It happens when I take off from 1st gear or when I put it in reverse. No change in drivability though.
@@antoniojones8399 when you put the differential on the car did you use the correct weight oil and also add friction modifier F?
@@davesworld2132 I'm not sure. I had a shop do the diff. When I took it back..they couldn't figure out the clunk either.

Hi guys quick question. I bought a complete used diff. For a 04 gto 6spd. And after installing the axles are locked any idea why?
Are you spinning it by hand and they are locking? Or is this when your driving?
@@davesworld2132 when I drive

Watch the second half of this video and check out the fluid I told everybody to put in. Try doing a fluid swap with friction modifier F
Hendrix Ford 8.8 swap is the only proven GTO rear diff fix....
