ALWAYS HAVE A WHISTLE with you in case you (can't) open the storm cellar door, hopefully someone hears that whistle and comes to your rescue.

It’s refreshing to watch a storm video where you take shelter and not wait for the last possible second. I’m from Wisconsin so when there is a siren I sprint to the basement, LOL.

Looks like a wonderful set up! Maybe attach / glue carpet pieces on door to muffle sound. Also an old piece of carpet for the dogs to lay on instead of cold concrete. And a towel to dry off if you go through rainfall into the shelter.

You can put a sound buffer on the storm inside to deaden the sound. Then you can download a radio station app
Kx935 which broadcasts live from Laguna Beach CA do if you lose power you can listen to this radio station live anytime. I can listen to this radio station on my cellphone in Mountain View CA.
Also have s hammer or a whistle that either a K-9 or human can hear
    Hope this info helps.

Get yourself a bottle jack. You are safe in your shelter but any sort of debris can land on your door and you can't get out. We got a 20 Ton bottle jack and several pieces of rebar in assorted sizes. Learned from my granny who was trapped in her storm shelter for a whole day after the storm passed. A tree landed on the door of her shelter and she could not push it off.

We had flash flooding a couple days ago in the Houston area. Our subdivision flooded and I barely made it home from work. Drove through water about a foot deep on our side street. We had a tornado watch/warning about a week before that. We dont have storm shelters, so the 6 of us and the stinky breath dog squeezed into our half bath for about an hour.

What you need to do to stop that loud sound coming from your storm shelter door is go and buy some really good adhesive glue for steel and get yourself A roll of rubber sheeting cut down to the same shape as the size of what you door is, and glue the rubber to the door this will cut down on the sound from what ever is hitting the door, and something ell's when the lady holding the baby come's out of your storm shelter I noticed that there is no locking mechanism holding the door shut I thought that, that was a bit odd the suction from a tornado will rip that door strait of it's hinges without there being something on the side of the door holding it shut with you and the miss's and the little bubs inside.

I am from Canada 🇨🇦 and we don’t typically get tornadoes in our province but we got hit in 2021. I used to love extreme weather and storms and typically our biggest worry was ice storms in the winter taking out power for prolonged periods of time. Now when thunderstorms roll in I’m on edge and constantly looking outside. Our prediction rates and warnings in Canada are completely different than the USA and we as a country are not good at tornado predictions. The day we got hit I checked the weather network less than 10 minutes prior to the tornado hitting us and all I saw was a bit of rain on the radar about 20 or 30 miles away from us and that was it. Our emergency alert system to our phones came about 4 to 5 minutes after the tornado hit us 😔.

Hi guys, I was wondering what size is your shelter? Were looking to get one here in Ar. But I can't find anything bigger than a 6x8. With 4 adults and a 150 lb Mastiff I need something larger. Enjoy your channel!!

I appreciate you sharing this I’m not trying to be critical but I’m just thinking it would be good to have a dog bed either big enough for both of one each. I got really nice beds at Walmart for $20 😏 . I have a Sweet Miss 🐕 Baby she goes everywhere with me. I live with extensive Emphysema and COPD. She keeps me safe when I get dizzy from low Oxygen. I’m prepared to take care of her with my emergency providing and bug out. I hope you guys get a chance. Blankets too for you guys to use 😏❤️. God Bless!❤️🇺🇸🖖🏼

I know what you mean about kids change your priorities cause last month we had a tornado watch here in Ohio and I was at work and before I even thought about going to the shelter at work I made the call to my fiance to check on her and our 2 y/o son cause before I went to safety I wanted to make sure they were ok cause i was ready to leave work to head home

If i would you i would put some sound deadening on the tornado shelter door so the rain isn't so loud.
You can jsut buy some cheap self sticking mats for like cars

I fully understand this video was 3yrs ago so your chances of seeing this comment are basically slim to none lol BUT that's obviously not stopping me from typing out my comment lol
I think a sheet of the foam board insulation would be beneficial to help deaden the sound of the door.
Also I have nervous dogs and 4th of july or new years is the WORST!!! I have CBD drops for them and it's a world of difference when they have them. I notice they are fully relaxed about an hour after they take it.
    Best $15 ever spent!!!
