  • The MG5 EV is the first all-electric estate and MG’s second fully electric vehicle following the launch of the MG ZS EV in 2019.
    The MG5 EV is a fully electric estate with up to 214 miles of range. The electric car market has been crying out for options other than a saloon or the raft of SUVs, with an estate car high up on the demand list.
    We take a look at the specs, trim levels, prices and more.

    I'm pleased to see more electric cars for buyers to choose from. But the boot and back seats not folding flat is a major let down. However this estate is based on an older design now and hopefully when the replacement generation comes it will address these shortcomings

      It has been a long time coming for the EV market. Although, not that many brand new estates around in general anymore which is a shame.
      Yes, lack of flat boot floor could be an issue. Although, having not tested it yet it could have a false floor in there that could be raised. Didn’t look like it, but here's hoping.

      Folding flat isn't an issue as this is only for occasional trips to the tip or maybe IKEA. The rest of the time it will be 3 to 4 adults and the dog.

    I've ordered one. . I use an estate for work so this is what I've been waiting for. Currently a Tesla MS driver and hate driving my clunky noisy Skoda Octavia VRS for work now, especially after driving the S all weekend. Can't wait for lockdown to bugger off to get my hands on the MG5.

      Would love to know how you get on. Seems like it will be a good "ol reliable" in years to come

    Haven’t driven it, so can take this a pinch of salt. But the rear seats barely fold. For my own purposes, I was interested when I heard of an estate EV. But those rear seats put me off. I’d be able to get a whole National or split Warre hive in. But I’d never get a topbar hive in. So alas, it doesn’t suit my needs, though I can it would suit many.

      I think you're right though. I mean, the MG5 sounds like a decent car judging by the reviews so far but it does benefit from being the first and only electric estate right now so it gets a lot of goodwill. If there was more competition, then it might not be welcomed in quite the same way it has.
      Still, being first and with a decent attempt warrants a lot of praise.

      Someone has to make a stand against the infernal 'ice' car so it might as well be me. I'm no activist but there is no sense in polluting the atmosphere now, what kind of world are we leaving for future generations??

    Would be good if the roof bars were fit for purpose but apparently according to MG they are decorative only and have a zero weight limit, coupled with the non fold flat rear seats the car is more of a hatchback than estate, the styling is also at odds with the new face of the rest of the MG range but then again this new car is actually about 4 years old and is basically a rebadged Rowie, the new Chinese 2021 MG5 looks very smart hopefully we’ll get that in a few years 🤣

    Looks like a tiny boot to me for an estate. An estate is what we Aussies would call a station wagon right?

    • @SmartHomeCharge
      @SmartHomeCharge  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, this would be a "station wagon" ;) You're right, it is on the smaller side for an estate in terms of pure capacity, but it's the height and shape of the boot that often makes the difference when loading larger items. But it will be too small for some, we're sure.

    Lot of normal today kit missing, no adaptive cruise control, no BLIS, no heated steering wheel, and the biggest missing piece, no phone app to pre heat or pre cool the car, oh and no battery heater for winter mornings. Looks cheap and it is because it’s missing a lot

    • @russellellis4587
      @russellellis4587 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      it has bluetooth for any phone but probably beyond you to pair, only cissys need heated wheel i had one on my last car used one to try 3 years ago not used since. i suggest you buy a BMW wear after you spec the price will at least double

    • @aakeister
      @aakeister 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@russellellis4587 the fact you don’t require “cissy” heated steering wheel for those with arthritis, where did I say it didn’t have blutooth, Now, try to keep up, it doesn’t have a phone app to pre heat or pre cool the car. Nothing to do with blutooth. I wouldn’t buy a nazi supporting BMW if it was the last car available. You just pretend you’re doing something for the environment. Fool

    The Kia e-Niro is an estate car (according to the registration document) and the seats fold almost flat.

    • @SmartHomeCharge
      @SmartHomeCharge  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perhaps, but most people would see it as an SUV and not a true estate. Though the seats do fold flat and it's a very capable car.

      If you take the back seat covers of and set them on the floor , the seats on the MG5 do fold fully flat
