I mainly agree with what you said, however I feel like a lot of the beginning was about primos.. I feel like a lot of people focus on the characters and pulls more than the actual story. Maybe its because I am not caught up to date with the all archon quests and world quests, but there are so many quests to do that add to the story. Yes, some are AWFUL and take SO DAMN LONG to complete, but Genshin is more than a gacha game if you want it to be. I think a lot of people forget that.

Welp, in the end it's all about the quality of the content. A lot of people are holding because they already spent too much in it. I played every day non-stop for like 2 years and every update just felt overwhelming. If I jump back into Genshin rn I would have to sit trough HOURS of text and overly explicit content.
On the other side, I decided to try Destiny again after being gone from the game for 3-4 years. They made a story-line with a few missions from every patch to make sure I was up to date and go over the newest expansion.
It also depends on if you have the time for the grind. I no longer care for grind but the experience. When I started genshin I was a uni student during the pandemic and now I have a full time job with irl stuff that requires most of my time. So yeah, I wish genshin did something to make it easier to return for casuals like me and improved the stuff the community has been asking for so long.

    As Day 1 player:
"Resin is a problem" never felt that, as everything has always be a "aight, I'll do it tomorrow"
"F2P will never be as easy as swiping the card" never felt this as I usually spend 30 minutes farming something and then the "I can do this tomorrow" feeling kicks in and so I do it tomorrow, never wanted to rush a buld or anything as this game has no pvp or a score board so there is really no point in rushing.
"Others spend their summer while I'm stuck inside with this game". I do my dailys in 30 minutes and then I'm free to do whatever.
"The meta" Always avoided the meta as that is the most antifun experience I've had in this game
"The devs doesn't care" And neither do I, like I remember 1st Anniversary everyone was crying for the lack of free stuff, meanwhile I forgot it was the anniversary and I was surprised when I got a few free stuff, it wasnt until I looked at youtube that I saw the angy fans but me, I was like "meh, whatever, I need to farm some Samachurl books".
The way I see this vid and many others who has dropped the game seems to be burnout, people come in the game wanting to be the metaplayer they saw in a video or livestream, they invest hours on end farming hitting the resin cap head first, realize they need to pay to speed the meta and find themselves empty when the numbers ain't as big or the team is not complete and so the money and time feels wasted.
Meanwhile I from day one have always have the same attitude: "Eh, I can do this tomorrow", because is not like the game is gonna go away, and as Max0r said practice patience and control, stop and smell the flowers and you will find your fun. And with this mentality, I'm only missing like 3 characters I want (Ayaka, Chiori and Chevyruse, as I'ma waifu collector), but it doest bother me as there's always a rerun, and at this point, I have enough characters in my plate that I'm glad those reruns aint coming any time soon.
For me, I like the grind, spending some 15-30 minutes hunting, gathering materials and running around is the reason I picked Genshin, I have fun with the story and I like most characters so I see no reason to stop playing. At the point I'm at, with 100% on every map, sometimes I struggle to even go beyond the 15 minute mark in this game for daily quests and resin spending, now I try to take my sweet time exploring and even then I 100%ed Fontaine in like a month, the Undersea and the new section of Liyue were 100%ed in a week, that's why to me, the most exciting part of the Natlan livestream was the new World Level.
But yeah, tl;dr, all the issues you mentioned seem to stem from a lack of self control that I see present in the perception of how the game should be played instead of having fun with what you have.

Your comments sounds like complacency from someone who's too afraid to criticize the game. First off, with how stingy this game is, why wouldn't people be "crying" about the lack of anything special for the anniversary events. Just because this game's problem don't affect you, doesn't mean they don't exist. Resin is a problem because of how much it limits a players time in the game and fast they progress. It has nothing to do with meta, it has to with how much the game doesn't value the time you put into it by making you waste so much of the little fragile resin and leveling materials on crap. I shouldn't have to dread pulling a new character. The funny thing is, when this game came out, people weren't rushing through. Players were having a good time, until the game ran out of content, and they could do nothing except farm materials and take on the abyss until the next patch. A game shouldn't put such a huge cap on how long the player can play.

"F2P will never be as easy as swiping the card" is the funniest reasoning to me, I wanna see them not swiping to get the 5 star weapon every time they pulls a 5 star character in the "decent competitor" game since it does not have any good f2p options at all and the powercreep is already ridiculous

@@ChrisBeYT Yeah, China's laws on gaming really astounds me. Playing games for too long is bad, but sinking hundreds to thousands of dollars into a glorified casino is a-okay. Regardless, if I'm gonna have that much of a limit placed on me for how long I can play, the game can at least compensate for making that time worth it.

Play Lord of the Rings Online. It is a bit dated but it has great quests (you have to read them) and interesting class mechanics. It is free to play until level 95; even then, that could take months or years, depending on how you play. The game is about the journey and not the destination.

It actually helps if you dont play it when you dont feel like it. Even though there are dailies you shouldnt force uourself to play if you dont want to.
I did several breaks from the game and now that natlan is out i really enjoy playing it again. .
And for me: yes the gacha is annoying but doesnt define the game for me. I just love to explore the vast and rich world.
I would probably love the game more if there wouldnt be gacha, or stupid random artifact drops.
I dont think you have to pay to get every character you want. They get regular reruns.... If you really play since say one and play the events iou can get quite a few gems without buying.
I am free to play since inazuma came out. And even before i only bought 3 welkins. I dont like being forced to login daily and claim my gems 😅

Day 1 player here. Started the game because it was a Breath of the Wild clone (which I was playing and loving at the time). I stopped after the first Zhongli banner and haven't picked up the game since.
Was it because of the gacha system? No.
Was it because the time the game wanted me to invest into it made me feel like it wanted me to put a wedding ring on it's finger? No.
Is it because of the bad story, disproportionately unlikable characters, and un-utilized potential of the setting? No.
I stopped playing because the game fucked up on a catastrophically basic level. And that's that the core gameplay loop isn't fun.
Combat is so mind numbingly *boring*. Characters have almost no flexible mechanics to actually play around with and most feel like their kit revolves entirely and just using their skill and then just switching to another character.
Enemy design does pretty much nothing to encourage high level play and feel more like sandbags to beat on.This is supposed to be the main way of interacting with the game.
The most fun I had with the game was actually just exploring, but it didn't take long for the world to stop inspiring my curiosity.
I did not want to waste time on a game that wasn't fun for me, so I simply stopped playing.
About a year later, I heard about the new Inazuma update and checked in to see if the game improved. I don't think I have to explain my disappointment from here.

i dont get how this video has a 70 / 30 like and dislike ratio. this sums up exactly what i feel about genshin and it really is a problem because i tried so hard to catch up after more than 1 year of not playing (started in 1.1 and stopped after sumeru came out) because i finally had time after i was out of school and i was super excited to see all the new stuff but the unskippable hour long yapping in quests are just making it unbearable for me, especially in sumeru where you cant even explore half of the map without going through all of those aranara quests. i love getting new characters and i want to play them but the amount of time that you have to invest to get through quests and to explore for such little rewards is very sad. a simple skip button would bring me such joy in this game because i love exploring. the music and scenery in genshin are unmatched and unique in every region and without the stress of catching up to maybe get the characters i want, this could be such a relaxing experience. the archon quests became much better, i really liked fontaines and natlans and the tribe quests also didnt feel too long and boring. exploration became even more exciting with the new characters that i spent so long grinding primogems for. if the quests were interesting, i would sit through those quests and enjoy them but sadly the majority of side quests just feel extremely boring and like a complete waste of time so i mute the game, start spam clicking and watch a video on the other screen which should not be a thing in a game. i am fine with working my ass off to get rewards if it is not boring.
fighting stuff to get more resin if you need it would be great. getting more fixated ways for good artifacts instead of complete rng and years of grinding if youre unlucky would be great. having triple banners or something that solves the 5 star rerun issue would be great. having a way to get the rate up 4 star you want instead of a random one between the 3 rate ups would be great. having a travel companion that doesnt talk 90% of the time while mc is just there would be great. not being treated like a dumb idiot that doesnt understand anything by the game would be great. more showing, less telling would be great.
i started honkai star rail because of the really awesome character demos and dropped the game after some time because it feels like a downgraded genshin experience. you cant explore freely, cant jump and some stuff is simply impossible to do, not because of skill issue but because you may not have been lucky enough to get the characters you need for those enemy weaknesses or mechanics. its like fighting abyss mages in genshin but you dont have the appropriate elements in your team and cant even dodge or heal whenever. the game has more yapping than actual gameplay in the story. i also started zenless zone zero and this is just a fantastic game. you have a skip button but i never even felt the need of skipping because the animations are simply amazing. i like zzz a lot and have never felt bored even slightly. also tried wuthering waves after seeing camelliya and i like genshins atmosphere, design and music better but combat is pretty interesting and cutscenes are pretty cool. the best thing about wuwa is the skip button. the upcoming characters look pretty fire (carlotta!!) and kuro games (developer) actually listens to their playerbase and changes things so quickly so i am really looking forward to this game.
conclusion, i feel obligated to play genshin for the daily rewards to get the characters i want (citlali is peak character design) and to use up my resin to be able to actually use the characters and i am eager to get shit done yet it feels impossible to catch up and brings me no joy but i cant bring myself to quit after having invested so much time in it so i gotta admit that i am somehow addicted and therefore extremely disappointed in myself

If what you play is no fun, its a good time to stop and move on. I started with 1.1 and only did a 2 week break to try out WuWa. Didn't like it much so I started playing Genshin again. I like the story, exploration and the great music and voice actors. Genshin is the right mix of all the mentioned aspects for me, a good solution I found for the grinding problem is: I don't grind unless I want someting, for example I got a new char I want to build. I do the weekly bosses since it won't hurt and is quick to finish with 4 players.

The only time i was feeling that im forcing myself to play was the sumeru desert patches and fontine quickly fixed that
So yeah dont play the game you dont enjoy anymore

Damn i guess i never was effect by genshin and gacha game negative side because its always been a side game... But i can see why it would be horrible if its a full game....
The fact that you play this game while out with friends and irl events, The game has to be good for you to enjoy doing that, But if its not i can see why it would be bad. The effects of FOMO, resin system isnt that bad if you just simply dont care about the latest trend. But thats how gacha game get a grip on you. Ppl apparently do care.
I know a lot of people that purge the entire game of its content. Like the achievement system, The character story, hangout, all the bits and bob for some primos especially if you cant afford to be a spender because your a kid or a struggling adult. Again the pull of a gambling game can be dangerous. I wasnt effected because i do not have financial issue, which i am fortunate to be in. Nor am i compelled by this FOMO, or trend joining, or by husbando and waifu attraction. I just get my yearly archon c6r5 and play the game as if i was f2p casual. I only do main event and light exploring. I dont do Side content like character story. I simply look at the people who upload the side quest and story quest so i can enjoy the good parts of it not the walking simulator part.
So in the end i dont think i am much of a target for genshin... Sure i drop maybe 500$ a year? if im really lazy cuz sometimes other games and irl activities pull me away... and 500$ is very very affordable compared to any other of my hobbies. At my age i value time over money. Also i leave the game completely if it has too much filler.... and i simply have someone else create a summary of the story and curated playthrough for me to watch. So i get to say im caught up with everything without needing to do the walking simulator part of the game for tiny about of primos.
By maining only the archons.... i avoid the artifact RNG and Resis system entirely. And to have fun i simply purchase and play other games or do irl activities. I think people agree purging the game for every bit of primos is not fun. Or religiously grinding for gear for 20+ chracters ???? see im not even effected by Artifact mismanagement since i only have 5 sets atm.
Genshin should be caring about its addicts. But there was never an alternative and.....unlike me despite the game being "BAD" these addicts would stay? and sometimes i had arguments where people said the walking simulator part of the game is fun... The 5 primos for spending hrs on an achievement is fun... THis is what you said in your video... denial...
LIKE what is the dev suppose to do with this information... People say its bad but still pay and play that that ridiculous numbers? I have the switch and ps5 and other pc games to play when genshin choose to have filler content or grind content be its mainfocus... if they want me back to play release more big and fun events.... so i did my part and im glad you are now doing the same.
Though looking in your comments i see people agreeing with what you said but will still make no change in how much they play.... In moment like these im glad there is WUWA... but WUWA imo is not a genshin killer... they actually feed on each other... people who are addicted to gacha will simply play more gacha games... the omega whales or the f2p that put their 24 hrs of life into video games the target of all gacha games... What i have always said was the genshin killer is the disillusion of the genre gacha....
The genshin killer is when people realize gacha games are not fun all the time... there are irl things you could be doing for fully paid 60$ COMPLETE Games , and many more genre that you can swap too like me. So what will these gacha game do to be on par with everything else i just mention?

I watched your vídeo from start to finish (since I liked yout video on Infinity Nikki). You're right on the mark when you talk about the devs and a lot of things remaining unchanged. I think that is my biggest complaint and disappointment about this game. QoL slow updates, the way they choose to make some things work, how they ignore player feedback until the revenue drops, etc...
However, you kinda missed me on the pulls/primogem/pulling characters/having to do long story quests rant, especially when you talk the buyers remorse on Hu Tao. Having also played a gacha before (like you) I learnt the golden rules - not every banner is for me and beware of their predatory business. The majority of what they sell will be appealing, but you need to see with fits with you. The gacha aspect of Genshin is a small part of it and endgame (combat) also remains a small part of the game, so the need to pull, pull, pull seems exaggerated.
Your initial disclaimer feels disingenuous, especially coupled with your title. It makes your opinion seem somewhat biased, if someone were to check your other videos. But I do agree with you that we should spend our time/money on games that brings us happiness.

Thank you for watching my video, really appreciate the support. I agree that my urge to pull on every banner was not good and definitely not healthy behaviour, I understand it now, but in that moment it was like the one and only way to play the game. It is a predatory business practice but it got me hooked. Also I haven't played the game for more then a year, so my memories may be a bit blurred. Playing genshin may feel different now than it was years before.
You are right that disclaimer may be a bit off. I wanted to make video like this for a long time, but it happens that I managed to do it on the boycon period, so just wanted people to not take it as "I hate genshin" video but more like "this is my story" video, that's why I added the disclaimer. I liked the game, genuinely, it gave me a lot of fun.

Very understandable. I played Genshin religiously from 1.0 to 1.6 and I quit when 2.0 released. I logged in to pull for Ayaka, got her and never opened the game again. I recently came back though during the 4.8 patch. It had been about 3 years since I last played and I wanted to see how the game has changed. I also played WuWa on its release and was wondering how the gacha game space had evolved. And while I do enjoy WuWa, Genshin was closer to my heart so I decided to drop WuWa and try Genshin again (don't have enough time for both)
I realise why I kept playing Genshin in the first place. I loved the world, characters and the stories involving them. They were just sooo magical and getting to experience them again recently brought back some good memories. I initially stopped due to burn out and constantly having the thought that I _have_ to play. But going so long without playing, I was able to reflect on myself and how I wanted to play the game. It also helped that I never spent a dime back then (I finally swiped recently tho teehee)
Now that I'm basically playing catch-up, I don't feel as if I have to follow the latest crowd anymore. I'm 3 years behind, it would be insane for me to try and match people who have been consistently playing. I'm playing the game at my own pace and when I want to, I don't even play everyday now! I am able to ignore the FOMO because I'm already so behind, what good is there for me to try and keep up lmao. I'm just here to experience the world and story again, I fricking love it man. The characters and music are so nostlagic to me. Especially Mondstadt, Liyue and the first Golden Apple Archipelago. I kept listening to these region's music for the past 3 years even without playing, because they're just so good
Anyway, I suppose it was lucky that I started playing again around the time of a "revival" patch. I have no idea how the game went down for the past 3 years but the community seems to be treating 5.0 like it's some kind of 2nd coming of Genshin lmao. Those poor guys probably been starved of compensation for the past 3 years. Doesn't really affect me, but hopefully this means good things will continue to come!

I get a good laugh whenever “the meta” for character building comes up, as I’m pretty sure my account would have given a hefty portion of the community nightmares… (still might haha)

me too, for me when i read that "in 5.0 genshin will focused on story" thats an exit door for me, like were the focusing on anything before? so yeah i quit play genshin for good after arlechino update(i play from 1.0) and even after i saw the upcoming update news, i wont comeback because it would just pain doing all over again, the music is indeed very good so then i would just listen it on their chanel, and if i want to know the story i would just look on youtube so i can enjoy it without any incentive to pull the "newest character" that later made me asked myself "why would i pull and build this character?" again when i fully built it
so yeah i personally wont comeback, its not worth it, im not play genshin just to listen to good music and read/watch story and just jumping/running around in the empty world, i played it because its open-world action game, good music and story just a bonus not the main thing

my experience with drop genshin is different, i got hacked and i lost 3 games account, after that i manage to recover 2 others games but i couldn't recover genshin account due to the complex ... i provided 90% of information that prove im the owner but they refuse to belive.
i still love genshin but unfortunately was created by devs don't care about their game more than care about money, not to mention the game surrounded by community 75% of them are psychopath and Toxic people, and some youtubers Exploit those things to make drama to get more views ... i played many games and i never seen game surrounded by "EVIL AURA" like this.

I installed Genshin because I was so curious why the local comicon had so many Genshin cosplayers. I wanted to understand why everyone came out of the lockdown playing one of these gambling games. Made my account in 3.2 (partly thanks to targeted ads lol; installing the game during the Nahida banner was no coincidence especially when idk who she was), experienced the story, lore, fashion, culture, and the world of Teyvat got me hooked. I got why this game took off. However, all the unresolved problems the players voiced for so many patches chipped away at my goodwill until the misrepresentation in Natlan made me stop playing altogether.
In the live service gaming space, respect goes a long way. Witnessing WuWa listening to their players (sometimes to their detriment) was something I haven't seen since I played Warframe. FOMO is a permanent fixture in these games but the sting of it becomes bearable when the devs and their players communicate to create the best experience for both parties

    needing every character to play
comfort picks where some characters are slightly better than others in doing something
pulling for characters you don't even like playing with
faulting the game for one's own introverted personality that's new
these are excuses(honestly the dumbest reasons and most common ones to boot), you don't NEED, sure wanting is one thing but the world doesn't work like that, if you have the means you can get what you want if you don't then get the means to do so
    it's a capitalistic world baby
the fact that the game exist/sustained is because of capitalism and the reason it's good is because of the creativity and passion mihoyo has
calling the game bad would be a per individual case "bad for me" as to say
it's understandable not everyone can control their urges and that's something some people are born with
in the DNA you can find strands that influence the likelihood for addiction and if that's the case for you it's a good thing to not play any gacha games
same as not touching cigarettes even once because the big bad nicotine will get you hooked
also genshin becoming a part of your life and a daily routine is a okay you can choose whatever you want to spend your time on
from a nihilistic perspective no matter what you do it will be a waste of time even if you save people from death which would count as gaining more time thus is the only true value of your time(since nothing is more precious than time objectively) eventually those people would waste their time which concludes in a net lose either way
in the end of the day do whatever makes you happy(murder/torture/abuse/extortion and everything along those lines don't do em even if they make you happy but me saying that won't help will it, you need to instill fear and morals into people so they won't do it not because logic dictates you not do something like that)
genshin is NOT a co-op game heck even MMOs are not co-op oriented anymore(just because you can doesn't mean you should/will)
so it's understandable why you wouldn't enjoy the game if the reason you've started playing it was because of your friends
all in all it's a logical conclusion to quit the game with the reasons you've stated but here's the thing with humans
if you approach the game from a different perspective, for a different reason you might enjoy it on your own terms
so if you ever feel a nostlagic kick give it a try but do make sure to change your reason for playing the game besides it being nostalgia
because a game this passionately polished doesn't come often(maybe a few a year from the thousands that swamp the market)
sure it's predatory even if you compare to other gachas or even live service games heck even normal one time purchase games with DLCs
it's still more predatory but unlike most gacha games they maintain something that is not seen and that's powercreep
other gacha games force you to pull for newer characters.
just because someone paid for your meal does not entitle you for demands, i am sorry but this game is built on whales not on you the welking spender(i am too a welking spender beats buying 1 meal outside that would satisfy me for 1 meal) sure the whales need the the minnows and planktons which creates an eco system.
it's an open market so it will always be like this, the 1# spot doesn't need to improve until its position is jeopardized
just look at any monopoly in the real world, that's how things work but unlike monopolies in the real world it's harder to put pressure on small businesses which monopolies do all so well
