Exploring Miri's Tua Pek Kong Temple

- Come enjoy the delights of Miri's Tua Pek Kong temple in this brief video! Nestled in the heart of Miri, Sarawak, this Chinese temple is easily assessible as it's located in the Old Town area amongst many other local attractions as well.
Tua Pek Kong is a well known deity from the Peranakan folk religion and is common amongst ethnic Chinese communities in Malaysia, Singapore and in some parts of Indonesia. He is also known as the God of Prosperity, which probably explains his popularity, and the first and oldest temple to worship him was built in Penang, Malaysia sometime in 1792.
There are numerous temples spread out across the region and this one in Miri was inaugurated in 1972 near to the site of the original temple. If you're visiting Miri, you should definitely bookmark this temple in your Google Maps app and take the opportunity to explore the surrounding areas too! Lots too see, so go crazy with taking your photos!
