Nice job John, bet you can't wait till Christmas 😀

John-Tip: dump out your bolt/nut bin, remove the dividers and reinstall with a bead of silicone caulk and let dry empty. The dividers will be rigid and there will not be a space below for migration of washer, nuts, etc.
Excellent video John, great outcome with the light. May I ask? Could you please do a video on substations, more specifically how the 3 phase transformer at the end of the street that supplies our homes with electrical power is protected against over current and short circuit conditions. I do not know what’s in place to protect the transformer should a fault occur before the main incoming 100-120A home supply fuse. Thanks John, hope you see this comment, keep up the excellent work. 👍🏻
Kyle bishop.
I have a tree like that. The plastic color wheel doesn't spin any more. Been afraid of opening it up but after seeing your video, I will give it a try
Love the detail!
Nice repair running a bit behind Christmas was two months ago owell ready for next year
Brilliant really enjoyed watching. Mine no longer rotates as it need new transformer plug. I have a cheap ac to ac transformer that lights the bulb but doesn't run the motor but it still gives a pleasing display just not twinkling and as new transformer plugs are around £19 on ebay will settle for that.
O rings on the motor mounts to help quieten them perhaps?
creative minds . good job
was wondering how you were gonna repair the discs, very clever.
Good instructions...but as a novice when it comes to retiring, I need to ask...sooo, all of the three electrical components end up soldered all together to one connection? I have to replace the motor, so might as well go the extra bit and put in dual color/pattern wheels like you did. I wouldn’t have thought the pattern wheel would have made as much difference...but, yours appears to prove it does! Thanks for sharing this and explaining the random thing on the little motors. I couldn’t tell from MY motor model number whether it was a/c or d/c (again, completely ignorant of the way electricity works), so glad you mentioned it is a/c. Thanks again!
and the award for most over engenierd Christmas of all time goes to :
JW for his dual motor/led/overpriced screw/non warpinfiction disc/reinforced/ruber feet/random pattern/fully fonctional to start with chrismass tree / (the dam thing look's exactly has before!!!)
BTW a multicoloured led could have gone away with the motors entearly.
Excellent. How did you color the round wheels? What is the thickness of the plastic round sheet?
Buena tarde perdí mi cable de conexión de la base ,por favor me pueden indicar de que voltaje se usa para no comprar uno con más o menos potencia , gracias
Did you colour all sections of the disc? I would have left a clear space there. Maybe the discs operating at the same speed is not a good idea.
Yes, 8 sections, 8 colours.
Back up into the loft for 10 months.
How did you wire it without a switch?
What did you use to colour the wheels 12:25
anyone repairing this in wellington nz?
Great video John,
Could I ask what the model of motor is that you used and where yo get them?
Thanks very much
TYC-40, available on the usual places such as ebay, aliexpress, amazon, etc.
My bulb went so I replaced it but did not realise it was 50w it should have been 20w did come on for few minutes but now nothing is working any advise plz
Most likely is the thermal fuse in the transformer, which is usually in the sealed plug part and can't be replaced.
@@jwflame should I Bin my tree because that transponder is hardwired to the base
Question John - My motor and lamp holder do not work. The fan is running so I know it is getting power. I can find a replacement motor but despite numerous different google searches, cannot find a lamp holder of this type. Any ideas?
Lampholder is usually a 2 pin type, referred to incorrectly as an MR16 (which is actually the lamp reflector size). www.toolstation.com/spare-lampholder/p99286
Thanks John!
I loved the videos. May I ask what type of paint you used on the disks? My 80yr old mother has a fiber optic tree she will not part with for sentimental reasons but the disk is old and discolored. I can't find any disks to buy so I would like to make a new brightly colored disk. I appreciate your help. Thanks.
Sharpie permanent markers.
Do you no where I can get a replacement fibre optic tree base like the one your sorting for a 6 foot christmas tree fiber optic I live in the UK Scotland
Did you end up finding a Replacement Base for your tree? If so, where?
Well there is 22:55 minutes of my life I won't get back. Couldn't believe I watched the first one when you published it JW and now I've just sat through the 2nd part totally enthralled... What is going wrong with my life.
Wow!
Nice
Bit too fast Mr Ward? Maybe add a simple speed control pot?
These are AC synchronous motors, speed depends on the frequency not the voltage.
you can actually get them to slow down on voltage along but that not a good idear since all you are doing is craping the efficiency and heating up your motor(signifiently reducing life time))
0:05 Your head looks like a f’king lightbulb 😂
Can I have a website for the parts
takes too long really spent time repairing the feet, what about the wiring
Two wires from the power socket go to the two terminals on the motor, and from there to the two terminals of the lampholder.
Nice
