I have this radio since 1995 and the radio works perfectly. I purchased in dubai for approx. US$50. Sony have stopped producing SW tuning radios now. Batteries last for one year approx. on this radio due to a special IC used so that the power consumption is very low.

Do you know if your radio is the original version from the 1980s or if it is the later version? They look identical outside but the circuit boards are different. I really like the carrying case.

I had the same radio with the case and it was a great radio but the only problem is the tuning thing went off the string and I couldn't repair it but I have to say it's a good radio takes two decides batteries I wish I could find another one like that it's pretty delicate paper radio but boy it plays good it picks up a lot of stations ..

I have one of these, it works well from the factory but I modified mine. I increased coverage to 1720-1730 kHz (depending on fine tune control), increased sensitivity, increased selectivity slightly on AM and shortwave and added more selectivity on FM. It's a much better radio with these modifications.
The improvement in performance is amazing. With these modifications, it's equal or better than the ICF-SW7600GR on the AM (medium wave) band. The ICF-SW7600GR was among the best smaller portables ever made. It may even be equal to the ICF-2010; I have not compared them side by side under similar conditions yet.
@@normanbloom the radio i am selling is the exact same thing that you see in this video, its still in that box and i haven't used it since than, it didn't came with batteries. all other is same as in the video. it is brand new, should be working where there are signals, i haven't checked recently in my area.
Sony ICF J40 Portable Radio. Its a very good quality radio but the price of $200 is very, very high for such a commodity. Original company price is much lower than this. Its not worth buying at this price.
Please I would like to know any thing about the 415 radio channel on youtube, because I saw an amazing vintage German radio repaired and refurbished in a wonderful way and I want to buy it too , but I don't know how to get to contact with the old technician and presenter of the channel , because he is locking the comments feature , thanks for help !
@@janath9118 this appears to be a reasonable price at the moment. I have seen this model on Ebay for around the same price. I might have bought it if had been the older version with less surface mount parts.

It's nice from the factory but it's even better with some modifications I added.

I have one of these, it works well from the factory but I modified mine. There is nothing left to listen to on FM. ...AM is even more useless. ...I'm only interested in picking up shortwave now
are SW signals strong enough specially in crowded cities to listen clear sound? i think they are not as reliable
